Subj: Continue or not?
Date: 6/13/2005
I took ionamin for 90 days taking three pills a week and lost 53lbs. Now I can’t eat as much but my cravings are for sweets. Should I continue using this medication or just continue to try and work on my appetite myself.
Tonya
AskDocWeb: Congratulations Tonya! Losing 53 pounds is an impressive accomplishment. You need to talk to your doctor to find out how close you are to your ideal weight before you decide to discontinue it. Working on your appetite is important but so is getting plenty of exercise. Just keep telling yourself that this is for a good cause, and that you will feel better and have better health if you maintain your ideal weight.

I had taken Ionamin over 5 years ago. I took it for a month and lost almost 20lbs. I then got pregnant, my husband and I tried to have a child for 5 years with fertility drugs and all that jazz… The ionamin gave me extra energy and I credit it for my pregnancy…

Subj: Ionamin diet pill
9/2/2005
My Doc put me on Ionamin. I find it to be the best drug to decrease appetite and weight loss and increase energy. Alot of people today in our society are over weight and lazy. I used to be one of them. I am 20 years old. And the side affects that I get are dry mouth and a little bit of restlessness… but I don’t mind because I sleep about 5-6 hours a night and I wake up fresh in the morning. And when I exercise I seem to sweat and I feel like I’m burning alot more calories. Ionamin isn’t a miracle drug. You must work with it… exercise and have a well balanced diet you can’t just take the pill and expect it to do everything… I think this pill is great for people who have a plan to go along with it! Remember this drug is an appetite supressant! It doesn’t loose the weight for you. It opens up one door and its up to you to open up the rest! Ionamin works! So work with it!

My doctor just gave me a prescription for Ionamin, even though I have high blood pressure. Is it safe to take?
Rhoda
AskDocWeb: According to the Physicians’ Desk Reference, Ionamin can raise your blood pressure. We suggest you discuss this concern with your doctor.
Subj: BMI is 28
Date: 1/2/2006
My BMI is 28 can I take ionamin? What else should I know before consuming Ionamin?
Zeeda
AskDocWeb: You should know that it can cause primary pulmonary hypertension, palpitations, rapid heart rate, blood pressure elevation, restlessness, dizziness, insomnia, headache, diarrhea, and constipation. Depending on your current condition and medical history there may be other things to consider before taking this medication. Your doctor will have to prescribe Ionamin so talk to him about what is right for you.
Subj: Switching from Duramine to Ionamin?
Date: 1/30/2006
Few months back I was on duramine 30mg. Is it ok for me to switch from duramine to ionamin 15mg so I can get into shape again?
Wanie
AskDocWeb: Duramine has been banned in many countries due to the terrible side effects it has. Since we are talking about a prescription drug, your safest course of action would be to talk this over with your doctor. Explain what you want to accomplish and let your doctor choose what would be the best drug to help you. That is, if you insist on using drugs to lose weight.
Subj: Is this an Ionamin side effect?
Date: 2/16/2006
I started taking ionamin about 2 years ago but stopped for nearly one and a half years already. About 6 months after I have stopped I had swelling of my hands and feet. Recently I started taking it again and 2 days after I took it my hands started to feel like they were swelling. Is there a connection? Should I stop?
Cheryl
AskDocWeb: This sounds like something you need to talk with your doctor about and soon. Let us know what you find out.
Subj: Upset all the time
Date: 3/16/2006
I have been using for around a year off and on. When on, I do loose the weight, but now feel very upset all the time. Always yelling and getting very upset with my kids and family. Is this normal for others? I turn into a complete mean person and cry about everything? I am also doing low carbs so I know my body is craving sugar and I was told that could make you emotional? I just am not sure if the ionamin is what is making me this way.
Liza
AskDocWeb: Yes, we’ve heard this from others, sorry to say. Just remember that your relationship with your family is more important than loosing a few pounds.
Subj: Feeling great
Date: 3/29/2006
I have been on ionamin for only 1 week but it is working great and I feel great I have lost 3p but prefer this as losing slowly is better apparently. My 2 friends have been on it 2 weeks and you can tell the weight they have lost in their face.

Subj: I need this drug
Date: 7/7/2006
I started taking Ionamin 3 months ago and lost 22 pounds. I have a hormone imbalance and this seems to be the only thing that helps me lose weight. I went to my doctor to get more pills and he told me they are no longer making this medication. Is it true? I have been off this drug for 3 weeks, already I have gained 5 pounds! I need this drug to keep the weight off and lose another 25 pounds!
Charlene
AskDocWeb: If you told your doctor that you needed the drug, he may have thought you were developing an addiction. In which case it would no longer be available to you.
Subj: Urinary hesitation
Date: 7/17/2006
I took this drug back in the seventies and it was very helpful in Helping me keep my weight at 100 lbs. Now I am taking it to give me a little energy to offset my fatigue due to severe arthritis and also to help control appetite. I have developed a side effect (doctor says that it is from the Ionamin.) I am having trouble urinating. It is called urinary hesitation. I am a female so we can rule out prostrate problems! Has anyone else had this problem or can the doctor shed more light on this? I am able to urinate but I have to sit there and think about doing water running, waterfalls, etc. Thanks
Anita
AskDocWeb: The older you get the more likely you are to have decreased renal function. We suggest you discuss this with your doctor.
Subj: Lost 93 pounds

Subj: Feel great with Ionamin
Date: 9/12/2006
I have been taking the drug for about 90 days now and feel great. I have lost about 25 lbs and workout 5-6 days a week and also on weight watchers diet. I am only concerned about the side effects and the about of time you can take the drug, I do not want to hurt my body but I am still overweight.
Selina
AskDocWeb: It would be a good idea to monitor your blood pressure while taking this drug. If it’s high, take a look at Resperate. It’s a non-drug alternative to control blood pressure.
Subj: Ionamin dosage
Date: 11/5/2006
Hi, I am trying to lose weight but need a little help. What dose of ionamin is most common, also do you know the difference between ionamin and phentermine? Thanks,
Lauren
AskDocWeb: Ionamin is the extended release form of Phentermine. It comes in 15mg and 30mg but what dosage you should have should be decided by your doctor. He knows your health situation, what other medications you are taking and if you are at risk from any of the side affects.
Subj: 3 month supply of Ionamin
Date: 11/7/2006
I am starting to take Ionamin 30mg as of tomorrow November 8,2006. Currently weighing 220lbs. I have lost 25 lbs on my own but have been at a standstill for about 1 month. So I am going to try this and I found out today that Ionamin has been discontinued in Canada, according to my Pharmacist. So he had enough for me for 3 month supply. Is this enough medication for me to get off at least 50 lbs?
Marie
AskDocWeb: Yes. While the amount of weight you loose depends on how you eat and exercise while on the product, you should be able to do even more than that.
Subj: Duramine
Date: 12/23/2006
Hello, I have a friend who takes Duramine on a regular basis, I can see a huge change in her mental state for the worse, she drinks alcohol with it too…I am concerned for her and the result of her using Duramine on her children, got any information? Suggestions?
Dianne
AskDocWeb: Duramine is an amphetamine diet pill, a brand name for phentermine and is to be used only by adults. If the children are under 18 and she is doing that without a prescription from the doctor, she could face charges of child abuse.
Subj: Duramine
Date: 12/31/2006
Can duramine cause infertility?
Misscuzz
AskDocWeb: There isn’t anything listed that would suggest it could cause infertility.
Subj: Very fatigued
Date: 2/5/2007
My doctor just prescribed me phentermine 30mg saying that it was the generic brand of Ionamin. I took Ionamin a couple of years back and had great weight loss success and I was full of energy. I just took my first phentermine pill and 2 hours into it I am very fatigued. Is Phentermine as effective as Ionamin? And is this a normal side effect?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: Since fatigue is listed as one of the effects of an overdose you should report this to your doctor. Your dosage may need to be adjusted. Ionamin Report – Page 2 – 3
