Subj: Built up a tolerance for Ionamin
Date: 3/20/2007
I took Ionamin 30mg for a while and dropped from 294 lbs. down to 224 pounds. After that I reached a plateau and could not lose anymore. When I started I was walking 2 miles a day and ended up walking 8 miles a day. This drug is very powerful. I have managed to keep most of the weight off without anything for the last 2 years. I am at 240 now and I really want to lose 40 more pounds. I order some more last year and didn’t have any results. I threw them away finally after they expired. It was like my body still had a tolerance towards them. So now it has been almost a year again. Would a body normally still have a “tolerance” for the same drug? I want to order more so I can lose the rest of my weight but don’t want to waste money if my body should still have a tolerance for them. Is this normal?
Chris
AskDocWeb: Yes, this is normal. Building up a tolerance for weight loss drugs happens more frequently than you might think. We suggest you talk to your doctor about a safe alternative.
Subj: Just started Ionamin
Date: 3/26/2007
I just started Ionamin and I feel no side effects. I have still no energy. I am taking 15mg. Do I stop or should I just tell my doctor. My appetite is still there. Maybe it’s not working (for) me. I don’t know what to do from here.
Yvette
AskDocWeb: It takes awhile to work. How long have you been on ionamin? If you think it isn’t working then give your doctor a call.
Subj: Don’t always trust your doctor

First of all, to the person who said that they were on Meridia and it didn’t work for them… they were wondering if they should switch to Ionamin? I would try it. It is NOT the same as Ionamin. Both are in the same drug family but are very different. Meridia is “Sibutramine” and Ionamin is “Phentermine”. Most diet pills are some sort of Amphetamine (street name “speed”) and can be very dangerous if you are irresponsible (take too high a dose, take for too long of a time period, take too often or with other drugs or alcohol, etc…) You have to find out everything about a medication before you use it. Don’t always trust your doctor to do that for you. I have so many things to say about weightloss and diet pills, etc. that I don’t think I can fit it all in. In short, here is my advice on Ionamine. If you do not have high blood pressure, heart problems, etc. Try it but make sure you start out with the lower dose and take as little as you can get away with to still have it’s effects. Build up gradually and slowly as your body will become tolerant to it eventually (meaning after too long and too much it will no longer work for you! If you want to ask me more about my experience with any diet pill or procedure please email me.

Subj: Ionamin in Canada?
Date: 3/31/2007
I have been using Ionamin for 8 years or so off and on. I started using it for weight loss but then discovered that it really helped my unbearable monthly period, however the last time I went to my doctor and asked him for a refill he informed me that they took it off the market because of to many side effects? I don’t know if this is just in Canada, has anyone heard? Thanks,
Violet

Elevated liver enzymes
Date: 2/14/2012
I have taken Ionamin off and on for the past year and a half. I recently started taking it again and have been on it for around 4 1/2 weeks. I recently had bloodwork and found that my liver enzymes were extremely elevated. (Ex: ALT level cutoff is 30 and mine stands at 195). Can this be attributed to the Ionamin? Thanks,
Leslie
AskDocWeb: There have been a few reports of elevated liver enzymes but it is not listed as a side effect. Those who noted this symptom also said that their liver enzymes returned to normal once the drug was discontinued.

Ionamin Feedback I used ionamin several years ago with great success. The first month I lost 15lbs. The next month I didn’t take the pills, but lost another 10. I did another month of ionamin and lost another 15, took another month off and lost about 5lbs and then took them for one last month where I lost another 15lbs. Not only does it suppress your appetite, but it really increases your metabolism, which was what I needed most.
