Subj: Order Meridia online?
Date: 11/12/2008
I started taking Merida 10mg last December 2007 administered through a program at Kaiser. Our vitals, such as blood pressure, kidney functions, etc, were monitored monthly. I lost 50 plus pounds. I feel great! Unfortunately Kaiser discontinued the program. However, I still have 40 pounds to lose. I want to order the medication on line but I am afraid that I might receive an imitation of the medication and not the real thing. Are the on line pharmacies regulated by the FDA or DEA? Can anyone recommend a reputable place to order this medication without a prescription? I really want to get started again before the holiday’s roll around as they are approaching rapidly.
Aretha
AskDocWeb: Even if it turns out to be the real thing, getting a prescription drug without having a prescription is against the law. Until the industry can figure out a safe way to order online we can’t recommend any on line pharmacy.
Subj: Lost 40 pounds without exercise!
Date: 12/5/2008
I started taking Meridia 4 weeks ago, 10 mgs, and I have lost 40 pounds so far, without exercise! The first week I experienced fast heartbeat and feeling jittery. Since then, my only side effect is dry mouth. My blood pressure is normal. Now Im ready to start my exercising routine.

Subj: Decrease the symptoms?
Date: 12/31/2008
I just started taking Meridia today (12/31/08) and I have a bit of a headache and dry mouth. I questioned the pharmacist as to how I should be feeling and when would there be noticeable weight loss. She indicated that I should give it a chance for two weeks. I am wondering if someone saw results around that time or earlier. Also is there a way to decrease the symptoms I am currently having? Feeling hungry is not what I expected but I am.

Subj: Developed a rash
Date: 1/4/2009
When I used Meridia I had developed a rash on my upper chest and the back of my arms. My Doctor has just perscribed Welbutrin. Is there any chance I could have the same reaction from the Wellbutrin. Thank you for your time.
Tracy
AskDocWeb: That is not likely, they are two completely different drugs.
Subj: Losing almost a pound a day
Date: 1/7/2009
First month, I lost 12 lbs. taking 10 mg. The only side effects I had was insomnia the first week only and that tappered away. By the 2nd month my Dr. bumped me up to 15mg I am now on Day 4 of the 2nd month and seem to be losing almost a pound a day. And no other side effects since the first week of insomnia. This is a very pricey pill ($155.00), so hopefully with excercise and changing my lifestyle of eating junk food…that it will be well worth it.

Subj: Bad anxiety
Date: 1/15/2009
I have been on Meridia for about 6 months, in the beginning, I found sleeping difficult but that soon went away. I was taking the 15mg and had very dry mouth and didn’t care if I ate at all. I went to the 10mg and am very comfortable with that (except over Christmas, wish I bumped back to the 15mg). I have controlled high blood pressure and I have felt wonderful on this drug. I too am not obsessed with food anymore, which is a big relief! I am scared to go off the meds as I am scared to go back to my old ways again. The only concern I am having right now is that I am having anxiety attacks regularly (which I had a bit of before Meridia) but now it seems really bad. I have an appointment to see my doctor to discuss the anxiety issue. Will I be able to take my Meridia with an anxiety drug and my blood pressure meds?
Val
AskDocWeb: Anxiety is one of the common side effects of Meridia so that may be a problem. Some people do take drugs to counteract the side effects of other drugs but that can turn into an endless loop with more and more medication. You may want to explore alternatives with your doctor.
Subj: Extremely happy
Date: 1/20/2009
I have been on Meridia since early September 2008. I have lost 20 pounds so far and have about 20lbs till I’m back to my weight that I was extremely happy with. The only complaint I have besides the price is I have expereinced more facial acne (which I never had before) and extreme peeling of skin on my nose. I have changed to a more strict facial regime but it hasn’t changed. I can keep the acne and peeling a bay but other then that no side effects that I can complain of.

AskDocWeb: Remember that your doctor considers both the risks and the benefits before prescribing any medication. Meridia is only prescribed when the benefits of using it are greater than the possible risks or side effects, which may or may not show up. Please follow your doctor’s instructions.
Subj: Medications interfering with Meridia?
Date: 1/21/2009
I am on my third week with Meridia 15mg. The first week was great! Significant reduction in appetite; I lost six pounds. Second week, I didn’t feel quite as satieted; only lost one pound. This week, I am starving all the time; haven’t weighed in yet though. I am an asthmatic and I take one puff of Advair 250/50 a day. Also, I started taking Singulair 10mg in the second week; could these medications be interfering with the Meridia working? I have to take some sort of asthma medication to be able to work out 30 minutes a day. Help!!!
Leslie
AskDocWeb: We haven’t hear of any problems with that combination and the Physician’s Desk Reference doesn’t list any drug interactions between them but you would have to check with your doctor to be sure.
Subj: Meridia saved my life

Subj: Sharp stabbing pain in my upper abdomen
Date: 2/11/2009
I’d been taking Meridia 10mg for a month and experienced no weight loss. My endocrinologist upped the dosage to 15mg. I started losing inches, felt great for 25 days, although I’ve been experiencing dizzyness and a sore throat. Today I developed a sharp stabbing pain in my upper abdomen, below my sternum. Doesn’t feel like heartburn… maybe acid reflux? I’ve never had it before. I only need to lose 30lbs, I eat healthy, balanced meals and excercise regularly. I took some heartburn meds and they didn’t help. The pain is intense, I’m worried, if it doesn’t ease up, I’ll have to go to the hospital, it’s that bad. Anyone else had this?

Subj: Difference between Meridia and Tenuate
Date: 2/24/2009
My doctor prescribed Meridia however it is costly so he prescribed Tenuate. What is the difference in these drugs? Which is safer? I took Adipex-p about five years ago and had a great reports however he was firm on not prescribing it. How does it differ from the others? Thanks so much!
Laure
AskDocWeb: Tenuate works by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affects certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite and stimulates the central nervous system. Because Tenuate is chemically similar to amphetamines, it has the potential for psychological dependency, which is the main reason why some doctors won’t prescribe it.
Meridia works by inhibiting the reuptake of the certain neurochemicals, which in turn suppresses the appetite in the appetite control centers in the brain. This is similar to what Prozac and other anti-depressants do.
Subj: Don’t know what to believe
Date: 2/28/2009
I have just been given a prescription of meridia the Dr and pharmacist both say its safe but internet reviews say it has caused deaths. I just don’t know what to believe can you please help?
Misty
AskDocWeb: Your doctor wouldn’t prescribe this drug unless the known benefits of taking it outweigh the possible side effects. This is called risk management. The benefits have to be compared to the possible risks when considering many things in life, not just medication. For example, knowing that over 45,000 people are killed in car accidents every year does not stop people from driving. The odds are in your favor that you will be better off following your doctor’s instructions.
Subj: Side effects from the Merdidia?
Date: 3/3/2009
Is it possible for Meridia to give side effects that resemble a cold? I was sick with a cold, really bad cough, runny nose, sore ears and flu like feeling on and off for about 7 weeks. I was on Meridia already for a few months when this happened however my doctor told me to go off it as it was a side effect. Would I not of had these symptoms right from the begining if the were infact side effects from the Merdidia?
Sandy
AskDocWeb: Although side effects typically show up shortly after starting a medication that is not always the case. Flu symptoms are in fact among the possible side effects of Meridia.
Subj: Be careful
Date: 3/12/2009
Been taking Meridia at 15mg for the last 10 days. No “significant” weightloss at this time, but since just having had a baby 4 months ago and losing 38 pounds naturally, I guess this is to be expected. It DOES curb your appetite. But be careful if you have issues with low-blood sugar or diabetes, it does affect your blood sugar.

Subj: Meridia side effects
Date: 3/20/2009
I started taking meridia (10 mg) a week ago, and OH MY, THE SIDE EFFECTS HIT ME. I had extreme nausea, insomnia, constipation, dry mouth, headache, joint and muscle pain, abdominal discomfort, and a stuffy nose. I could battle through the other symptoms, but the insomnia was unreal. I did not fall asleep once for the four days I took it. I stopped taking meridia because I am in University and needed my sleep. How long does it take for the side effects to go away? I want to try them again, but I am going to wait until I don’t have anything important coming up.
Kristie
AskDocWeb: The side effects should be gone is just a few days but do let your doctor know about them, your dosage may need to be adjusted.
Subj: Meridia works
Date: 3/24/2009
The first time I used meridia was in 2005, I was 17 and 265 lbs. I had fast and great results with this drug! I lost 75lbs in 7 months. I felt great and looked good too.(keep in mind I was also very active, working out 6 days a week 2 hours a day, I love to work out). I unfortunetly gained the weight back (due to personal reasons). But have now been taking the medicine for 4 months and I have lost nearly 40 lbs (I still work out alot). I have had a few symptoms such as, increased heart rate some chest pain and trouble falling asleep. after lossing much of the weight and feeling better, however, the symptoms fade away. I love this drug! it works, if you are willing to change and make an effort to get healthy.

Subj: Taking Meridia close to suppertime
Date: 3/25/2009
I have been taking Meridia for about a month and a half. It seemed to work great for the first 2 weeks. Now, it seems as though I want to eat junk food following supper and into the night. I wondered if taking Meridia closer to supper time would have a better effect? Will this hurt my sleep if I change this or is it time-released throughout the day?
She
AskDocWeb: It is likely to hurt your sleep, taking Meridia too late in the day may result in insomnia.
