Subj: Trying to keep positive
Date: 3/25/2009
Meridia 10mg..I am in my 5th week…I was craving food all the time…alot of food, chocolate. Meridia has taken away my cravings. I still eat but much smaller amounts. When I have eaten too much I feel really sick. Has anyone noticed this? I feel I am loosing but not in large amounts. I am sure it takes time to get into your system so I am hoping it will work well for me. Chocolate is really gone, once in awhile I will have a piece not the whole bar plus more. That for me is great news. I have a bad back which stops me for doing alot of walking. I was and had to stop…it was either walk or work. I have to work. I get facet needles in my back every 6 months…just got them done so I am feeling better. The catch is if I over do it the midication in my back will wear off. The pain is bad. I am really trying to take it easy. Meridia is expensive but worth it. I spend alot of money buying natural remedies for weight loss. I do mean alot…none of them worked the way meridia is working. These products were garbage. I even bought the patch, Kelp, green tea extract, there has been so many I cant remember all the names. Don’t waste you money. I just hope meridia continues to work and take the weight off. It seems some people loose alot quick. Some days I have to remind myself to eat. I had to stop this. I eat alot of yogurt now, small snacks so I don’t hurt my body. I am trying to keep positive on the adventure. Reading other peoples comments help.

Subj: Gained 60 pounds back
Date: 3/25/2009
I took Meridia for 2 years lost 50 lbs and felt wonderful. I stopped taking it because I could not afford it and 5 years later 60 pounds back. Not able to curb my appetite without it.

M.

AskDocWeb: This is what happens when the changes to diet and exercises are not made while taking Meridia.

Subj: Not obese
Date: 3/25/2009
Why is it not good to use this product when you are not obese, just want to lose a few pounds? Thank you,

D.

AskDocWeb: The benefits have to be weighed against the possible risks and if you aren’t obese then the risks are too great. Using this drug without a doctor’s prescription is considered drug abuse.

Subj: Will I loose more?
Date: 4/29/2009
I started takeing meridia 10 mg almost 2 months ago I weighted in at 206 when I started it, when I went back 1 month later I went to 198lbs I am I week till my second weigh in an I’m at 197 is that normal? My dr is putting me on 15mg on my next visit will I loose more weight, should have I lost more that second month or could have that been normal will I loose more the 3rd month?

Sherrie

AskDocWeb: Losing eight pounds over a month is not as much as we would want. That is likely why your doctor is increasing the dosage so you can look forward to losing more in the coming weeks.

Subj: Migraine headaches with aura
Date: 5/6/2009
I found sibutramin 15mg in Mexico. I believe it is the same thing as meridia. Whenever I take it my appetitie is greatly reduced but I often get migraine headaches with aura. Do you think if you are a migraine sufferer it is bad to take this type of drug?

Andrea

AskDocWeb: Headaches are one of the most common side effects of Meridia and migraine headache are listed as one of the less common side effects. Taking drugs made in other countries is not recommended. We suggest you talk to your doctor before taking any more.

Subj: Reduce cholesterol without zocor?
Date: 5/18/2009
I have been taking meridia 10mg for a week and feel great. I am exercising daily spinning. My doctor wants to me to take zocor 40mg. my cholesterol is quite high ldl 181 total 260 hdl 51. I am a bit concerned to be on both meds. Do you think this is a problem. Should I try to reduce cholesterol without the zocor?

Overweight

AskDocWeb: Meridia is especially recommended for those who in addition to being overweight have high cholesterol. Zocor is usually prescribed only if your diet, exercise, and weight-loss efforts fail to bring your cholesterol level under control.

Subj: Order online – No
Date: 5/23/2009
I have gotten Meridia perscribed to me from my dr. I do not recommend ordering it online because you don’t know what you are actually getting. My dr. is monitoring my pressures and weight loss and can increase/decrease the dosage if need be. I have been using it for 5 days now and have already lost 6 pounds. I have experienced sour stomach and decrease in appetite. I’m happy so far.

Subj: Is there something missing?
Date: 5/26/2009
I have just started my second week of Meridia and am unsure if it has worked. How long does it usually take to see change? I exercise 5 days a week with 3 being cardio and 2 being yoga. I am doing between 1-2 hours of cardio on my cardio days but am worried that it is not enough. With proper diet and exercise is there something that is missing or should I stick to what I am doing?

Mandi

AskDocWeb: You need to stick to what you are doing for several weeks to find out how well it is working. You can get an objective view of change by weighing yourself once a week. Keeping track of your weight over time will allow you to quantify your progress.

Subj: Relpax
Date: 5/27/2009
I’ve been thinking about taking Meridia. I’m 5’3 and 160lb, and have family history of high cholesterol. However, I get severe migraines and take Relpax about 5 or 6 times a month. Is there any interaction with Relpax? Thank you!

Jo

AskDocWeb: We found no interactions listed but you would have to check with your health care provider to be sure.

Subj: Heart rate increased and feel disoriented
Date: 6/15/2009
I am a little bothered about something. I have been taking Meridia 10mg for 2 months now, and have lost 25 lbs. I do have a history of high blood pressure, and am taking lisinopril. I am also taking Lexapro…which is the biggest concern for my doctor. I want to wean myself off of lexapro, and have trued, but can’t seem too. I have had very little side effects. For the past 5 days, I have felt AWFUL!!! My BP is running in the 130’s on top, and between 92-104 on the bottom. I am just tired. My heart rate seems to be increased, and I feel disoriented. Any ideas?

Pam

AskDocWeb: It sounds like it may be time to check with your doctor. If a problem is developing, the sooner you catch it the better the results of treating it.

Subj: Headaches
Date: 6/18/2009
I only took meridia for two days and started having headaches on the first day. I didn’t take anything yesterday or today but my headaches are still really really bad. How long will it take for them to subside? This is ridiculous!

Robin

AskDocWeb: The longest amount of time reported for side effects to go away was 6 weeks.

Subj: Give it at least one month
Date: 6/21/2009
I started taking meridia on May 25, 09 and have lost 5 lbs so far and it isn’t even a month yet. At first I noticed the symptoms of nausea and it lasted only for the first week and a half, and it went away, after that came the dry mouth and throat, but it went away after I started drinking more water…must drink at least 10 cups a day.. and noticed slight sleep disturbance, but when I absolutely cant get sleep, I take a sleep aid…not always though…and I started walking 15 mins first working my way each week an additonal 5 mins, now I walk 25-30 mins 5 days a week. It’s a good thing there is a treadmill at work. My insurance provider also approved my script for one year. I trust God will help me on the journey to a healthy eating and lifestyle changes. At 33 years old, I have lost alot of family to diabetes and complications. I don’t want to suffer like my family did, I choose to be healthy and overcome the diseases. I would advise anyone to stick to the medication and give it at least one month before quitting meridia. The side effects do go away!

Misscoyote

Subj: Just started

Subj: Hair loss?
Date: 6/29/2009
Can merdia cause hair loss? I’ve taken merdia in the passed but never noticed hair loss.

Linda

AskDocWeb: Although it is not listed as a side effect of taking Meridia, one person reported major hair loss after starting Meridia.

Subj: I feel so tired
Date: 7/1/2009
I have been on this now for 3 1/2 weeks I feel so tired and I sleep so much. I notice that around 1 P.m. I have to take a nap and then I go to bed around 10 P.m. and will have a deep sleep and wake up around 8:30. I was hoping that this would wear off but it hasn’t. The first week I was sore all over but that finally went away. Should I take the drug at night will that give me energy? Please help…

Amanda

AskDocWeb: This sounds like unusual fatigue which should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Non-stop headaches
Date: 7/2/2009
I have been on Meridian for three days now and I am experiencing non-stop headaches. I am on 10mg. Can I expect the headaches to eventually subside, and if so, how long will that take? Thank you for your thoughts.

Bonnie

AskDocWeb: Headaches and migraines are listed as common side effects of Meridia. They may or may not go away with continued use.

Subj: Side effects are not worth it
Date: 7/3/2009
I have been on Meridia for 8 weeks now and have only lost 14 lbs. But the side effects are not worth it. The dry mouth is horrendous and sleepless and restless nights, also my BP went up not by much but why chance it so they can give me other meds to control that. I have hypothroidism and joined a weight loss program. I need to lose 40 more lbs for my height. My BMI has dropped. After reading all the problems with Meridia in Europe you wonder why it’s still on the market. I think we have to really think of what we are putting in our mouths to lose weight. The long term effects have not been published in the articles I read. It just scares me after the phen phen episode if this will eventually come to haunt me in my later years. I find my pillow has more hair on it then ever before. This also can be a side effect of the synthroid. I did not have this problem when on Armour Thyroid so I asked my doctor to switch me back to Armour. Can you take Meridia while on thyroid meds? Thanks and I wish everyone out there luck with their weight loss.

Irene

AskDocWeb: Thyroid problems are listed as one of the conditions that must be discussed with your doctor before taking Meridia.
