Subj: Excess sweat
Date: 7/4/2009
I’ve been on sibutramine (meridia) 15mg (bought while in Mexico) for about 2.3 weeks now. I’ve lost 10 pounds from 270 to 260. My appetite is completely gone and I used to crave and binge and eat garbage on a daily basis with no exercise and I work an overnight shift. I would definitely recommend however, I am also taking 100mg of zoloft and I sweat with anything that I do. Drip of sweat. Very not normal excess of sweat. I’m afraid to just stop the zoloft cold turkey because when I tried that I was the moodiest, crankiest person to be around just on the meridia (tried it for a couple of days w/o zoloft) so I brought it back in. The fact that I’ve lost so much so quickly is outweighing the sweat right now bc w/o it I would continue my destructive eating habits and dig an even bigger grave for an early death. The meridia I bought from Mexico was only $40 a bottle for 90 pills (3 months supply) while here in the states that’s about $650. So if it continues to work I will take my little 5 hour trip across the border bc yes, it is worth it. Nothing else has worked on my appetite but this.

Subj: I had to go to Emergency
Date: 7/5/2009
I tried Meridia for 6 days but had to stop. My doc prescribed it for depression/anxiety since I did not do well on two other anti-depressant meds. I also gained a lot of weight from meds being depressed and fatigued. On the fourth day of taking this drug I had to go to Emergency. I was disoriented with a numb/tingling left arm, nauseated and chest pain. The doc said it was radial nerve pain and sent me home. Told me the med could not do this after 4 days. Day 6. I woke up at 2:00 am I could not see at first out of my right eye. I was sweaty and my heart was beating rapidly. This medication is not worth it. I experienced back pain, headaches, sore throat and abdominal pain and swelling.

Subj: Planning to have a baby
Date: 7/28/2009
I decide to start using Meridia to lose weight while I am planning from seven months to have a baby. I need to know if I can use it till I get pregnant or there is any side effect.
Sally
AskDocWeb: Using Meridia during pregnancy is not recommended. If you plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor first.
Subj: Stopping Meridia
Date: 8/4/2009
I would like to stop taking Meridia and would like to know if there is any danger of stopping completely or is it better to stop gradually. I have decreased my does to once every other day.. (and have not been regular about that).. I hope it’s ok to just quit now. I believe the drug has caused serious mood changes for me. Started with very strange mood then unexplainable anxiety. Please advise. Much Obliged.
Hania
AskDocWeb: There is no mention of any need to wean off gradually in the patient information for Meridia.
Subj: Meridia acne
Date: 8/4/2009
I absolutely love Meridia. I have been on it for 9 weeks and I have lost 23 lbs. At first I had dry mouth but that went away in 2 weeks. I no longer battle with cravings and over eating. It has been the only thing to ever work for me and I have tried it all. The past 3 weeks I have noticed I have been breaking out in acne on the lower part of my face. I didn’t even think of connecting it with Meridia. I thought it was new makeup I was using so I stopped and I am still getting acne. I hope it isn’t the pills. I came on here to see if it was possible for Meridia to cause acne and I now see someone else has a similar experience. I do not want to stop taking Meridia. I will just have to deal with the pimples till I reach my goal. Say 15 more lbs. Great website. Glad to find this out.

Subj: Reductal?
Date: 8/13/2009
Just debating taking reductal(Meridia)… Have heard really good things about it and seen results of friends taking it myself… But had an experience with “duromine” that didn’t end so well… (I started having really bad pannic attacks and it totally screwed with my head, to the point where now every time something bad happens I catostrophically blow it into the worst case scenario- usually to do with my/kids health) Is it safe for me to take reductal? Or should I just forget the idea?
Jade
AskDocWeb: You would have to consult with your doctor to find out if it would be safe for you or not.
Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 8/17/2009
I have been on Merida for 4 days and I love it. The first day I experienced dry mouth but over the 4 days it has decreased and is now very mild. I do not crave food. I do not think about food. When someone offers me something to eat I say no, and mean it. I am trying to eat healthy smaller meals. I fill up quickly. I have more energy and feel happier. If this continues I will lose weight.

Subj: Not losing weight
Date: 8/25/2009
I just started taking Meridia 2 weeks ago and have not lost anything, the Dr wanted to start me with 5mg. Is it just not working or do I need to give it more time? I need to lose 25-30lbs.
TP
AskDocWeb: If there is no weight loss after two weeks then you may want to check back with your doctor.
Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 9/1/2009

Subj: Meridia and elevated temperature
Date: 9/4/2009
I took Meridia 5 years ago and had great results. Since then, a number of things in my life have contributed to me gaining almost 50 pounds. I recently bought the generic version of meridia and have been taking it for 5 days. I have noticed a definite decrease in hunger…however, I have also noticed that I am constantly hot. Is this a side effect? It has been warm out, but I am hot even when I am inside. I am not old enough for it to be menopause, so this is the only thing I can think of. A friend suggested that the rise in metabolism might cause elevated temperature. Any thoughts? It’s not unbearable…just a slight nuisance.
Renee
AskDocWeb: We agree, an increase in metabolism could account for your perceived rise in temperature.
Subj: Dry mouth
Date: 9/5/2009
I have been taking Meridia for 2 months now with diet and exercise, I lost 26 pounds. I would advice it to anyone who wants to lose weight, it really helps, and other than dry mouth I haven’t suffered any other symptoms.

Subj: How long will it take?
Date: 9/10/2009
I have been taking Meridia for almost 3 weeks now and have not lost a single lb.. How long will it take to start losing weight with meridia?
Susan
AskDocWeb: You should have noticed results by now so check with your doctor. It is possible that your dosage may need to be adjusted.
Subj: So far, so good
Date: 9/18/2009
Started taking Meridia on Sunday, 8/13. It’s now Thursday, 8/17, and I’ve lost 3 pounds. My eyes seem a little dilated today, but it’s not enough to make my vision blurry or anything, so I’m not concerned. I really can’t complain so far, and 3 pounds is a start. I like that although I’m not hungry, I don’t feel sick when I eat (like with some diet pills). I feel like I can make better food choices because I don’t have any cravings and I’m not starving 24/7! So far, so good.

Subj: Severe heartburn
Date: 9/21/2009
I have been taking Meridia for 2 months now. I have lost about 10 pounds, but have to stop taking it due to severe heartburn which actually has even caused the acid to burn my throat. I have had a sore throat now for 3 or more weeks. I already had an acid reflux problem prior to taking Meridia, now it is worse. Regardless, the 10 pounds is great, I will continue to eat the smaller portions that Meridia programed me to do and keep up the weight loss. The jump start has made all the difference in the world to my attitude and given me the incentive to keep the weight loss going!

Subj: Delganex or Meridia
Date: 9/23/2009
I have been reading the comments about meridia, can someone tell me how do you get it? Is it only prescribed by a doctor? Can you just ask your doctor for it just because you want to loose weight? Is it the same as “Delganex” Is there a site I can go to and purchase?
Bones
AskDocWeb: It looks like Delganex is NOT legally available in the USA. The FDA has not approved Delganex. Sibutramine is reported to be one of the ingredients in the Delganex manufactured in the Dominican Republic. It is not known if that is the only ingredient or if there are other ingredients in that product. Meridia is available in the USA buy only with a doctor’s prescription.
Subj: Trying to conceive?
Date: 9/23/2009
Hi, I took meridia for about 2 years for wheight maintatnance. However I stopped it three month ago and travelled on a vacation after that I gained 5 pounds. I started doing diets to loose those 5 pounds, but in vain. I am thinking of taking back meridia so I control my appetite. But, the point is I will be trying to conceive with my husband starting from the coming month. What I need to know is how long does the meridia stay in your system and can it have any negative effect on the baby? Thnx,
Iriny
AskDocWeb: Studies have shown that approximately 85% of a single dose of Meridia is excreted in urine and feces over a 15-day period so it may take a few weeks to get completely out of your system. Meridia is in FDA pregnancy category C which means that it is not known whether Meridia is harmful to an unborn baby. The FDA has received 34 reports of women who were exposed to Meridia during their pregnancies and of those 5 resulted in birth defects. The FDA does not recommend the use of Meridia during pregnancy. Please discuss this with your doctor.
Subj: Not feeling anything
Date: 9/23/2009
I have been on Meridia 10mg for about 10 days now and besides for a slight increase in heart rate about an hour after I take it, I have not felt any effects. I feel like my appetite is about the same as it was before and I have lost several pounds but I feel like that’s more due to a moderately strict protien diet and exercise than Meridia. I hear great things about it but not sure why I am not feeling anything, please help!
Isabel
AskDocWeb: If Meridia is not reducing your appetite then you may want to check with your doctor to find out if your dosage needs adjusted or if an alternative might work better.
