Subj: Medications for headaches or migraines
Date: 12/3/2007
Do you know any medications that will decrease headaches or migraines. I have a headache at least 4 times a week all day. I have been checked out by numerous doctors and nothing’s wrong. Any suggestions?
Kim
AskDocWeb: Yes, you can find the list here. The muscles in your jaw can also cause headaches and migraines. You may also want to talk to your dentist about this and see http://www.headacheprevention.com.
Subj: Horrible migraines
Date: 9/29/2009
I’m currently on LoEstrinFE 24 or somehow in that order, and have been on it for about 6-7 months but in the last 2 months I’ve been getting horrible migraines right at my temples everyday and almost all day. Excedrin won’t even knock out these migraines which I also think make me dizzy, make me have hot flashes, and feel naucious. I’m not pregnanant as I’ve taken 4 tests and just finished a cycle. Is this common?
Jen
AskDocWeb: Please contact your doctor. Under the side effects listed for Loestrin FE 24 we see this warning: “Seek immediate medical attention if you experience: sudden shortness of breath, chest/jaw/left arm pain, confusion, coughing up blood, sudden dizziness/fainting, pain/swelling/warmth in the groin/calf, tingling/weakness/numbness in the arms/legs, headaches that are different from those you may have experienced in the past (e.g., headaches with other symptoms such as vision changes/lack of coordination, existing migraines becoming worse, sudden/very severe headaches).”

Perindopril I have had terrible migraines for 30 years. I have seen 3 neurologists, had scans and tried every medication going, plus herbal medicine and acupuncture. I was recently medicated for my high blood pressure and now I haven’t had a migraine for 6 weeks!!

AskDocWeb: Perindopril isn’t the only ACE inhibitor that has that effect. Other ACE inhibitors are also being used successfully as Migraine preventive medications. Here is a list of some of the most common ones:
- Benazepril (Lotensin)
- Captopril (Capoten) (the first ACE inhibitor)
- Enalapril (Vasotec/Renitec)
- Fosinopril (Monopril)
- Lisinopril (Prinivil/Zestril/Lisodur/Lopril/Novatec)
- Moexipril (Univasc)
- Perindopril(Aceon/Coversyl)
- Quinapril (Accupril)
- Ramipril (Altace/Tritace/Ramace/Ramiwin)
- Trandolapril (Mavik)
