30 years male
Date: 10/25/2015
I’m 30 years male & experiencing moderate hair fall from age of 22. When hair fall was tremendous I met a dermatologist and started using minokem5% and prohair. I got some good result after 3-4 months and continue it. after using it for more than 3 yrs I transfered to a different place and stop using minokem for few months. Now the water of that place is such that my hair starts falling at a vicious rate and with in 4-5 months I have become almost bald. Then again I consult with the dermatologist and he asked me to start minokem again with prohair and well grow anti hair fall serum. I’m using it for 4 weeks but my hair is falling continuously and there is no sign of new hair and every day my head looks more empty than ever before. What can I do now? Continue the treatment or do something else. Please suggest….Thanks

AskDocWeb: Hopefully you have told your dermatologist about your lack of progress. Treatments need to be given an adequate amount of time to work and that is something to discus with your doctor so that you know what to expect.

Rechanging hair colour?
Date: 10/27/2015
Sir, I am 27 years old male. I have lost hair at fronthead since 4 years. And now a days I am suffered of hair colouring changing in white over my both ears. I am thinking about to use the Minoxidil. Is it right selction for my suffer? And can it help me in rechanging hair colour in black to white; and regrowth new hair on front head’s scalp. Please help me.

Gajendra

AskDocWeb: Some people have experienced changes in hair color when using minoxidil but the numbers are too small to draw any conclusions. The description on the box says not to use it on frontal hairline or temples. It’s only for the vertex of the scalp.

Long term use?
Date: 10/28/2015
I am using minoxidil 5% . 1ml during night from past 2 years.. may be four times a week… . I dont have any health issue.. .. but i am worried if there will be any side effects in future regarding infertility or any other harmful effects as i am using it for long period..?

Bharath

AskDocWeb: To date we have found only one report of a negative long-term side effect of minoxidil and that involved using an unusually high dose (50 mg/day over 10 years). The side effect was pseudoacromegaly but when you consider there are millions of users and only one report, that is not likely to be a problem. (Source: “Pseudoacromegaly induced by the long-term use of minoxidil”. Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology 48 (6): 962-965)

Acromegaly is an endocrine disorder caused by chronic excessive growth hormone secretion from the anterior pituitary gland. Significant disfiguring changes occur as a result of bone, cartilage, and soft tissue hypertrophy, including the thickening of the skin, coarsening of facial features, and cutis verticis gyrata. Pseudoacromegaly, on the other hand, is the presence of similar acromegaloid features in the absence of elevated growth hormone or insulin-like growth factor levels.

Shampoo?

I am using thz minscalp2% after we apply thz shall we use any shampoo or nly warm water nd also we use thz scalp mrng nd night without wash our hair

Rajitha

AskDocWeb: The directions for use say to allow the product to dry completely. It does not say how often to wash the hair, presumably that would depend on the amount of dirt in your environment.

Suggested product?

What is your suggested product to control vigorous hair fall and gain dense hair?

Showkat

AskDocWeb: That would depend on the cause of the problem. The product that might help someone with a thyroid malfunction is not likely to be helpful for someone with male pattern baldness. Likewise if someone had a bacterial infection that would be treated different than someone who was suffering from a vitamin deficiency. This is why we recommend getting a complete medical checkup to reveal any underlying causes.

Blade cleaning?
Date: 11/8/2015
i want to use mintop 2% for controlling my hair (in sha Allah). my question is can i blade (clean) my hair from head or it may be need of hair on head for using this product ?

Mattoo

AskDocWeb: If blade cleaning is the same thing as shaving then that is not recommended while using any topical product containing minoxidil. Doing so increases the amount absorbed through the skin which may result in unwanted side effects.

17 year old boy

I am 17 year old boy and my family has a history of baldness. Should I use minoxidil and how much percent if yes. Sugest me some medicines to recover hair on bald patch plz help

Sanket

AskDocWeb: A bald patch on the scalp of a 17 year old is unusual and suggests the possibility of a medical condition that needs attention. We suggest you consult with your doctor about this.

Tugain?
Date: 11/12/2015

Zahid

AskDocWeb: Yes the active ingredient in Tugain is Minoxidil.

Vision difficulty
Date: 11/13/2015
Over 55 year old woman. put minoxidil 5% on scalp a few times and now have difficulty with my vision…can’t quite focus. If I stop, should the symptoms cease?

Maggi

AskDocWeb: If the vision problem was caused by minoxidil then discontinuing is likely to resolve the issue. Although minoxidil has been used millions of times over the years we found only one case of bilateral optic neuritis. That was followed by atrophy and vision loss. (Source: Gombos GM “Bilateral optic neuritis following minoxidil administration.” Ann Ophthalmol 15 (1983): 259-61)
