AskDocWeb: We suggest you ask your dermatologist about your treatment – what you may expect and how long that might take. That information should have been given to you when the dermatologist prescribed your treatment.

AskDocWeb: The directions say that if hair loss continues beyond two weeks you should consult with your doctor. It is clear from the feedback that minoxidil does not work for everyone.

Excess quantity of Minidoxil?
Date: 6/16/2016
Will there be any affect if I apply excess quantity of Minidoxil onto my hair…??

Bhaskar

AskDocWeb: Applying it to your hair does not cause more hair to grow. It’s when the product gets absorbed through the scalp that it has an effect. Excessive amounts (more than instructed by the directions) may cause health problems so follow the directions.

Patchy hair loss
Date: 6/17/2016
My hair loss is in patches on both sides of my hair. Will 5% minoxidil help me?

Kwaku

AskDocWeb: That depends on what is causing the patchy hair loss. The most common causes of patchy hair loss are alopecia areata (small circular or coin size patches of scalp baldness that usually grow back within months), traction alopecia (thinning from tight braids or ponytails), trichotillomania (the habit of twisting or pulling hair out), and tinea capitis (fungal infection). Minoxidil will do nothing to change behavior or cure a fungal infection. For best results consult with a dermatologist and let them decide your treatment.

Unwanted facial and body hair
Date: 6/18/2016
Hi! I’m a 22 year old female and I have had thining hair ever since I was 15. I began using minoxidil 5% since November 2015(7 months ago)..After 3 months I began noticing fuller hair and now I have many baby hairs. My problem is that for the padt few months hair has began to grow on my face and arms..and i don’t know what’s worse.. So my questions are: 1.)If I change from minoxidil 5% to the 2% do you think that this unwanted body and facial hair will go away within a few months..or do you think that I have to completely stop using minoxidil for it to go away? 2.)If I change from the 5% to the 2% will it only slow down the process or will my new (head) hair fall out in a matter of time just as if I had stopped using Minoxidil completely? Thankyou 🙂

Unwanted facial and body hair

AskDocWeb: Unwanted hair growth on the the face and body is known to be a possible side effect for women who use 5% minoxidil. Changing from minoxidil 5% to the 2% may slow the growth of more facial and body hair but it may also slow the process of getting rid of that unwanted hair, which is likely to take several months. Using a hair growth inhibitor such a Vaniqa may help speed up that process.

Manexil gel 5%
Date: 6/19/2016
Sir ..I am 19 years old can I use manexil gel 5% ..I have little hair fall… Slightly Hair is gone on front side of head mean corner of head..can I use it..??

Aaryan

AskDocWeb: Manexil gel 5% appears to be a product of Fem Care Pharma Ltd in India. Since the active ingredient is minoxidil you may want to read about the possible side effects of that drug and comments from users. As always, we recommend getting a medical exaimination to determine the cause of your hair loss before deciding on a treatment.
