Subj: Minoxidil 48 weeks?
Date: 1/27/2008
Hello AskDocWeb, You say after 48 weeks after using minoxidill my hair growth will stop, I am using the minoxidill and Azalac asid solution with good results. Would switching to the nisim biofactors after 48 weeks keep my hair established and not loosing it. Also I thought Nizerol stopped DHT, but I read on the bottle it is for scaling and iching. Would you suggest going to nizim biofactors. Best regards,
Glenn.
AskDocWeb: First a correction: We do not say that your hair growth will stop after 48 weeks of using minoxidil. What we do say is that according to the FDA, “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” That means the product has not been shown to work beyond 48 weeks. And yes, for a shampoo that fights hair loss, we suggest Nisim Biofactors.
Subj: Nisim with Rogain?
Date: 1/29/2008
Hi, This is such an awesome website. I have been using Rogain for about 4 months, and did see some hair grows, but not much. Now I am considering Nisim shampoo/conditioner/extract. Then, can I use rogain along with these products? Maybe I use the Nisim extract twice daily after washing my hair, and use rogain once during the day? Please advise me on this plan.
Jungho
AskDocWeb: Yes, many men are using more than one product for hair loss, just don’t apply them at the same time. We have no idea what would happen if you mix the two products together but it’s better to be safe than sorry. A bad reaction would likely show up as dandruff or scalp irritation.
Subj: Hair fall has increased
Date: 1/31/2008
Hi, I’m 25 year old man and facing severe hair loss since 5 years. I’d visited a local dermatologist in the year 2005 he subscribed me mentop lotion 2%. I used it for almost a year and it worked wonders for me. I stopped using it till the mid of 2007. Now again I’m facing the same problem. My hair fall has increased. I’m using mintop lotion 2 % since last 4 months but its not working. Please help.
NS
AskDocWeb: That seems to be common with products containing minoxidil. The body seems to build up a tolerance and it stops working around 48 weeks. Are you using a shampoo that fights hair loss like Nisim?
Subj: Shedding
Date: 1/31/2008
I have been on 5% minoxidil for about 5 weeks. Is it possible that I have noticed MORE loss/thinning as a result? I have heard some shedding may be normal but how do I know if I’m making it worse and should stop?
Alex
AskDocWeb: Although the companies that sell hair loss products say this doesn’t happen, several men have reported a period of increased hair loss within 4 to 6 week of first starting treatment. Typically it doesn’t last more than a few weeks but some men have discontinued use because the hair loss became unacceptable. That is something you will have to decide for yourself.
Subj: Witch hazel
Date: 2/1/2008
Hi. Due to a host of heart medications I’m taking for cardiomyopathy, is there any hair product that’s out there that’s safe to us in conjunction. Alternatively, any truth to regular massages with witch hazel to re-grow hair?
Jennifer
AskDocWeb: Witch hazel shouldn’t cause any problems but anyone that is taking a medication should consult with their doctor about which products would be safe for them. Witch hazel is a natural astringent and vasodilator. Increasing blood flow to the scalp is thought to encourage hair growth. If you have oily hair, it will help by degreasing the hair and slow down the production of oil from the sebaceous glands in your scalp. It deep cleans your hair and scalp of dirt and oils. While there are no clinical studies about the affect of Witch hazel on hair loss, it is used in a lot of hair loss products.

Subj: Muscle pain in chest
Date: 2/12/2008
I’ve been using monoxidil for a week and I’m experiencing muscle pain in my chest. I’ve tried it before and felt worse so I’m going to stop using it. I would rather be bald than feel bad.

Subj: Dizziness, irregular heart beats and chest pain
Date: 2/12/2008
I used 5% regaine for 3-4 months 3 years ago and I had hair growth. I also began having dizziness, irregular heart beats and chest pain which I thought were due to stress of that period. It wasn’t easy for me to realise what was happening to me and I was frightened. It had influenced my mood. Later I suspected the use of regain and stopped using it. The symptoms stopped after some months. I had heart tests but they didn’t show anything wrong. Now a new dermatologist suggested using 2% regain. I started 3 days ago with a very weak dose and similar weaker side effects appeared again. I will continue using it for a few days and schedule a heart test for coronary heart disease and complete heart check.

Subj: Minoxidil 5%
Date: 2/14/2008
Hi, I am 29 year old man. I have used Minoxidil 5% for about 2 years. 1. How long can I use it? 2. Is it have side effect for heart?
Ali
AskDocWeb: According to the Food and Drug Administration, “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” In rare cases where too much minoxidil has been absorbed through the skin there are some heart related symptoms; chest pain, fast heartbeat, or irregular heartbeat. If you experience any of these symptoms you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

AskDocWeb: Although we have not heard of any problems that is not conclusive. Any time you are taking prescription drugs you should ask your doctor before starting a supplement, in this case you need to ask about saw palmetto.
Subj: Viagra while using monoxidil?
Date: 2/19/2008
I have an identical TWIN BROTHER married with who spent $10,000 on his hair implants that looks good however, I have been using only monoxidil product for the past 5 years daily and I’m married always kept more hair on my head. I’m 47 years old, people say I have much more hair, looks good. I have experienced 95% decrease in sexual desire probably normal at 47 some loss of dynamo endurance but, is it normal? Can I use E-D product like viagra while still using monoxidil?
Leonard
AskDocWeb: The loss of 95% of sexual desire is not normal for a healthy 47-year-old man. Please consider getting a checkup (urologist) to make sure everything is working okay. Viagra is not counter-indicated for topical minoxidil but only your doctor can say if it is safe for you or not.
Subj: Oil after minoxidil

Subj: Hair line and Minoxidil
Date: 3/1/2008
My doctor recently recommended using minoxodil to regain hair on my hariline. He also recommended biotin and a lasercomb. I used the first two but did not find it necessary to use the lasercomb. I am not balding but my hairline had some minor recession. I first tried revivogen, which supposedly naturally blocks dht. I noticed less hair falling out initially but my actual hairline seemed a little thinner. Then I tried the doctor’s recommendation. I have been using minox for about 2 months. I first tried it once a day and now have been using it twice a day for the past week. I noticed less hair shedding but the front hairline again seems even thinner and when I wear a hat it parts funny and lays flat and looks even worst. Started the biotin about a week ago. I’m getting nervous that the minox is actually causing the front to worsen as I have read a few rare cases of this happening. I have also read some cases of it helping. I’m also afraid to stop because I figure if I stop I will begin to shed even more hair that some hair may have become “dependent” on the minox. Please advise. I would like to continue with the minoxodyl but not if it is the cause of the frontal hair thinning.
Mike
AskDocWeb: Other than the shedding that happens to a few, we have not heard of minoxidil causing any hair loss at the hair line.
Subj: Red hair in offspring?
Date: 3/1/2008

AskDocWeb: No.
Subj: Before bath or after?
Date: 3/7/2008
I have purchased Minoxin-2% spray from the market today. Please tell me about its use. Is it used before taking bath or after taking bath?
Asad
AskDocWeb: Since it is absorbed through the skin you need to allow some time for it to work but the directions do not indicate a preference as to before or after a bath.
Subj: Mintop lotion
Date: 3/8/2008
Hi I am ankur from India, I want to know can mintop lotion regrowth hair how much u sure tell me in %.
Ankur
AskDocWeb: There is a 30% chance that you will grow some new hair but that growth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks.
Subj: Increased facial and body hair
Date: 4/8/2008
I used minoxidil sol. 2%, but there is increased growth of facial and body hair!! How u can to help me? And if I removed it, regrowth may occur gain?
Maha
AskDocWeb: If you shave off the facial hair, it is likely that it will grow back again. On the other hand, if the increased hair growth is caused by the minoxidil then discontinuing use will stop it.
Subj: After stopping treatment
Date: 4/9/2008
Hi, my doctor has put me on minoxidil 5% combined with progesterone as my hair has been thinnig for over a year and scull is becoming visible at the top of my head, he says we will try this for 4 to 6 months and wean me of it afterwards, he also said my hair would not fall after stopping the treatment. Should I believe him?
Annette
AskDocWeb: Everything we have read about minoxidil says that hair loss resumes upon discontinuing treatment. This is what happens with all the products for hair loss that we have researched. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
