Subj: Huge hair loss problem
Date: 8/7/2008
Hi, I am 27 years old, I have a huge hair loss problem. I though of taking Minoxidil..some one suggested to apply Almond Oil…I dont know it works out or not? I got to know Minoxidil is available in many combinations..Mintop Forte etc..which combination is good to start with? Give me your best suggestions. Looking forward to your reply. Best Regards,

Ramesh

AskDocWeb: Since this is a huge problem and you are only in your twenties you should get a physical to rule out medical causes of hair loss. And do that before spending any money on hair loss products.

Subj: Complaint about minoxidil
Date: 8/9/2008
My main complaint about minoxidil is that it is a pain to apply, and after a few years it’s worthless unless you increase the concentration and/or add finasteride.

Max

Subj: Reduce the usage?
Date: 8/10/2008
I have been using Minoxidil 5% for a while and I have received my hair back. Can I now reduce the usage to once a day in order to maintain the hair growth or will I again start loosing hair?

Chris

AskDocWeb: That is something you might want to experiment with but please note what the Food and Drug Administration says, quote: “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” (source: Drug Facts from the FDA)

Subj: Experiencing hairloss
Date: 8/14/2008
Hi, I am 24 years old and experiencing hairloss since past 1 year. I lose about 30 hairs while combing in the morning and about 10 while combing in the evening. Hairloss is visible in the front but my hair is thick at the top and back of scalp. I started using minoxidil 2% (once daily) 6 months ago. It has made no difference so far and I continue loosing the same amount of hair. If I do not apply the solution I actually lose less hair the next day. Should I discontinue its use of should I try higher concentration products? None in my family are bald(from both mother and father side). I tried zinc supplements and I think they work for me. Please advice. Thank You.

Krish

AskDocWeb: The hair loss you describe sounds within the range of normal hair loss which is about 100 hairs a day. There isn’t any product that would stop hair loss completely.

Subj: Shaved scalp
Date: 8/22/2008
I have been keeping my head shaved due to hair loss and since the last two months I have also been using minoxidil mintop 10% solution. However it is mentioned on the minoxidil mintop 10% drug, that it should not be used on a shaved scalp. I would like to know the reason behind the same? and should I grow my hair and then only use the minoxidil solution?

Brian

AskDocWeb: It would seem likely that the newly shaved scalp would allow too much of the drug to be absorbed into the skin. That may produce unwanted side effects as well as irritate the scalp like something fierce. Letting your hair grow out before you try it would be preferable.

Subj: 12.5% Minoxidil
Date: 8/23/2008
Minoxidil 12.5% belgravia clinic … I used this product for 3 months and had the side effect of alot of facial and body hair, I wanted to know will this go away its been 7 months and it hasn’t gone at all, does that mean it won’t go?? help .. I wouldn’t advise anyone to use this product!!!

Lilly

AskDocWeb: One of the consequences of using an experimental drug is that the effects, and how long they last, are unknown.

Subj: More thinning at my scalp
Date: 8/29/2008
Hi, I am 25 yr old. I have shadding and less hair at my top of scalp. I use Mintop 10% but after using it, I notice more thinning at my scalp. I have a question that “Is mintop not suet to me so my hair going more thinner.” Please give me ans.

Puneet

AskDocWeb: In our opinion the 10% and higher solutions of minoxidil are experimental drugs and more research is needed into their affects and side effects.

Subj: Fast results?
Date: 8/29/2008
I have started mintopoil since July 2006 but now it’s give me reselt before month some hair resum in my scalp what I do for fast result! Is fenax help in growth hair or it’s only use in hair loss solution?

Shailendra

AskDocWeb: Since hair grows so slowly, fast is a relative term. You may have to wait months to see good results.

Subj: A plan?
Date: 8/31/2008
Hello, my hair at the vertex of my head has gradually thinned over the years. I am 25, and it is just now becoming noticable. Does this sound like a plan? 1. Take Minoxidil for the 48 weeks to restore the thinned hair on the vertex of my head. 2. Use the Nisim products to maintain my hair until I am old and don’t care…

Dean

AskDocWeb: That sounds like a good plan. We’ll also keep track of hair loss research for new products that may become available.

Subj: Minoxidil tablets
Date: 8/30/2008
I’m a 64y.o. male with very difficult to control high blood pressure. My doctor recently added Minoxidil tablets to my regime. Since then I’ve had a rapid significant weight gain, become hoarse and generally don’t feel myself. Could there be a connection?

Daniel

AskDocWeb: Yes and sudden weight gain should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible as this can indicate a serious problem. Minoxidil tablets are a different medication than the Minoxidil solution used to treat hair loss. The Minoxidil tablets should not be used to promote scalp hair growth.

Subj: Shedding
Date: 9/3/2008
I have a question about Minoxidil. I have been using the product for roughly two weeks now and have noticed that my hair is falling out. I feel as though I should discontinue the product. Will the hair that I lost not regrow itself after I discontinue use? My hair loss is above the vertex, and that is where I have been using the product.

Zee

AskDocWeb: There are reports of shedding with all hair loss products during the first six weeks. It doesn’t happen to everyone but it is common. That is not a reason to discontinue use unless it becomes really bad.

Subj: Mintop 10%
Date: 9/8/2008
I am 30 yrs and my Dr advised me to apply mintop 10% for 4 months since I get hair loss daily. But my friends say that if once used should be continued all thru the life else may create more fall than normal. What shall I do now?

Prem

AskDocWeb: While it is true that you have to continue using a hair loss product once you start it, that only applies to products that continue to work. The 10% Mintop is experimental and has yet to be proven to work beyond 48 weeks.

Subj: Hair falling problem
Date: 9/8/2008
I’m 25. I have hair falling problem and my front part also effected with hair falling can I use minoxidil? I’m very upset.

Kuljinder

AskDocWeb: Some hair loss is normal, the average adult looses about 100 hairs a day. And yes, unless you have a skin condition that needs treatment, you can use over-the-counter minoxidil.

Subj: Hair loss problem again
Date: 9/9/2008
Hi, I am 24 year male…I am having the hair loss problem for 4-5 years. I consulted the doctor and he advised me to take mintop forte, pilogro plus and finax capsule. I took that for 2 years and it gave me good result but now I am getting the hair loss problem again. Now my doctor advised me to take mintop10..This will work? Pls advice.

Alwin

AskDocWeb: Mintop 10% is twice as strong as the Minoxidil that is sold in the USA. That stronger solution may result in more side effects but we won’t know for sure until more users post on this experimental product.

Subj: Male pattern Baldness
Date: 9/9/2008
Hello, I am 26 yrs old male and has been lossing hair for the last 4 yrs, I haven’t got in touch with any dermatologist for any test but I am pretty sure I am suffering from Male pattern Baldness (Androgenic Alopacia) the pattern of hair loss is something like this receding hair line from front and loss of hair from the crown, I have recently started using Minioxidil 2 % (about one maonth back). I have noticed since I have been using it I have noticed dandruff, to encounter this I usually apply aloe vera juice direclty to my hair, without stopping the use of Minioxidil, I make sure that I don’t apply Aloe vera within 8 hours of applying Minioxidil. My question is would Aloe decrease the effect of Minioxidil and have I identified the right kind of baldness which I am facing?

Vikas

AskDocWeb: That does sound like male pattern baldness. If the aloe vera work that’s great, just be aware that people respond to it in different ways. For some it would increase the dandruff. Aloe vera shouldn’t make any difference in the effectiveness of Minoxidil.

Subj: Nothing is working
Date: 9/9/2008
Please help me with me question. I’m 39 years old have been taken proscar for 5 years than turned to avodart for the past 1 1/2 years my hair count was losing effect after 5 years of proscar so decised to try avodart. I have been receding since the age of 30 and nobody in my family has hair loss. I have been taken minoxidil for now 6 months and avodart with alot of vitamin b’s nothing is working on my temple area or sides. Is there anything out there that will help me. Thank you,

Chaz

AskDocWeb: Do you use a shampoo that fights hair loss? Some shampoos actually cause hair loss so take another look at yours. You might also have your thyroid checked during a complete physical because there may be a medical cause for your hair loss. As for new products to fight hair loss, a lot of men are still looking.

Subj: Sexual side effects?
Date: 9/10/2008
hi, I am 20 yrs old I started using minoxidil 5% solution from one month. There is an increase in hair fall, shell I continue or not…and I heard that it has more side effects(less stimulation in sex, impotence, is it true? If I stop using minoxidil, will the hair fall increase? Once we started using it, must we use it life long?

Johnny

AskDocWeb: Sexual side effects are possible only if you are overdosing on minoxidil. That means too much is being absorbed through the skin. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
