Subj: Viagra and minoxidil
Date: 10/17/2008
Is it safe to take Viagra and minoxidil together?
Adonis
AskDocWeb: The Minoxidil we discuss here is the topical solution used for the treatment of hair loss. There is no counterindication for using the Minoxidil solution with Viagra. The other kind of minoxidil is a prescription medication that comes in pill form and is used for the treatment of blood pressure. It is not safe to use Viagra with that prescription Minoxidil unless it approved by your doctor.
Subj: Minioxidil
Date: 10/19/2008
Hi, I just used minioxidil for 5 days only on my temple area and below my front hair line and of course no result till now. 1. If I stop using minioxidil will I loose all of my hair or only where I have applied? 2. Will I grow hair on my body, face or any other part of my body where I have not applied at all? 3. Is now minioxidil in my body and might cause any hair loss? 4. I just want to grow hair on my temple and below my frontal hair line where there was no hair at all before. Is there any safe medicine other than minioxidil?
Tigi
AskDocWeb: 1. If you stop using minoxidil you will only lose the hair that the minoxidil prevented you from losing in the first place, not additional hair.
2. There have been a few reports of people growing hair in unwanted places but it is not clear if those areas were accidentally exposed to minoxidil or not. In general it only stimulates the growth of hair where it is applied.
3. No, minoxidil does not cause hair loss.
4. Safe is a relative term because all drugs have side effects. We can’t recommend any other medication but do suggest you use a shampoo that fights hair loss.
Subj: Nisim BioFacotor
Date: 10/19/2008
36 male: I’ve been using Rogaine 5% Minoxidil moose for 16 months now. I stopped for two weeks and notice no change, but I have a strong concern I will start to lose hair. You recommend Nisim BioFacotor, should I get all three products, Shampoo, conditioner, and the hair scalp extract? Can I use all three products and Rogaine as the fourth solution for my daily regimen? I like Rogaine but I want to start to making a baby and I am concern about any chemicals potentially stall sperm growth, even thought there is no proof that Rogaine can harm growth. Thanks in advance…
Jimmy
AskDocWeb: The Nisim BioFactors shampoo, conditioner, and extract are designed to work together as a system. Many men are using more than one product for hair loss, just don’t apply them at the same time. We have no idea what would happen if you mix the two products together but it’s better to be safe than sorry. A bad reaction would likely show up as dandruff or scalp irritation.
Please Note: This product is no longer sold. Readers are encouraged to recommend a shampoo for those with hair loss.

Subj: Hair around forehead region
Date: 10/20/2008
Hello… I was having dandruf…but now that problem is solved… but I have lost my hair around forehead region. I shampoo daily…can that be a problem? My skin is oily. I’m thinking of using mintop… pls suggest me…I am only 20… wat I dont want is further loss due to any solution…can I use mintop???
Abhi
AskDocWeb: As you may know, we recommend the Nisim Biofactors three part shampoo system. Daily shampooing is not a problem unless the shampoo you are using causes hair loss. It might be helpful to do a search on the name of your shampoo along with the words “hair loss” to find out if other people are having a problem with it.
Subj: Sexual side effects
Date: 10/26/2008
My friend (26 year old guy) has been using 2% minoxidil for 3 months. He experienced sort of sexual discomfort like less sperm count, difficulty in ejaculation, even not feeling horny right from the 2nd month of usage. Its been nearly 6 months he stopped using it, still he is not recovered from these effects. I need to know how long he should wait to get rid of all these side effects? He already approached a doctor reg. the same…but no use. Hopin to get some positive reply from you. Thank you.
Suvi
AskDocWeb: Sexual side effects typically do not last that long after discontinuing and are only caused by an overdose. This sounds like he may have an unrelated problem so you may want to suggest that he consult with a urologist to get checked out.
Subj: Severe hair loss
Date: 10/27/2008
I’ve been using Mintop( minoxildil 2%) for nearly two years now. I think though it was not very effective in regrowing new hair, I feel at least it has helped in stopping/reducing my hair loss. I was having severe hair loss two years back and since I started using Mintop, I feel the hair loss isn’t that much. But now I’m planning to change to Mintop Forte( minoxidil 5%) to try if it would help me in regrowing some of my lost hairs. Is this a right thing to do? Will there be any side effects in changing from 2% to 5%. I had no side effects when I used Minoxidil 2%. Thanks.
Dwarak
AskDocWeb: It may be worth trying but we can’t tell you if it is the right thing to do or not. The chances of having side effects increases with the increase in dosage. Do a favor for other men who read these pages and let us know how well this works for you.
Subj: Hereditary hair loss
Date: 10/27/2008
Hi, I am a female, I suffer from hereditary hair loss, on my front line especially. I am confused as I thought Minoxidil would help, but I just read on your site that it will not help…can you advise. I have been using it for 2 weeks and I loose my hair twice more, is that normal??? As well you mentioned to leave it on for an amount of time…I thought you just apply it and leave it on.??? Products like Phyto or Rene Furterer are any good??? Thank you,
Veronique
AskDocWeb: Sorry, we have no data or feedback about Phyto or Rene Furterer. The directions say to allow the Minoxidil to completely dry for 2 to 4 hours after applying it. Minoxidil can stain clothing, hats, or bed linen if your hair or scalp is not fully dry and it is flammable while wet. Note that there may be a slight risk of initial shedding caused by use of Minoxidil but that should be temporary.
Subj: Minoxidil dosage
Date: 10/31/2008
What is the difference between minoxidil 5%, 2%, 10%, which can make better result now I am using mintop usp 2%, can I use 5% or 10%?
Jabi
AskDocWeb: The 2% is the lowest dosage of the three and 10% is the strongest. You can try it but be careful. The results may or may not be better when using a stronger dosage because along with the stronger dosage comes an increased chance of side effects. If your skin is too sensitive to take the stronger dosage it may result in a red, burning rash and irritated skin, much like a chemical burn.
Subj: Which product?
Date: 11/3/2008
Hi sir, it has been 1 year I have hair loss and it is getting worst. I am wondering to use some treatment. I made research and I end up with minoxidile and procrin can u please advise me which product shall I use?

AskDocWeb: Remember that our purpose here is to report on the side effects. We prefer that you read the feedback and make your own choice.
Subj: Excessive hair loss
Date: 11/4/2008
Can Minoxidil cause excessive hair loss when you first start treatment? I am a 52 years old female MS patient who started to experience some hair loss in my 20’s. Several dermatologists told me that I inherited my father’s hair pattern. I was told to try Minoxidil. In April, I discovered that I was Vitamin D deficient I am now taking 4000 IU’s of vitamin D daily. My dosage is being monitored by a medical practitioner. The was some improvement in the hair growth with the Vitamin D treatment. In October, I started using Minoxidil 2%. I am now shedding hair, it is falling out at a rate I have ever seen before. Is this normal with Minoxidil?
Regine
AskDocWeb: It is not typical but an initial period of shedding caused by the use of Minoxidil has been reported here by other users.
Subj: Cough and chill?
Date: 11/8/2008
I’m a 58 yr. old woman who has been experiencing hair loss on the crown for about a year now. I have been using 2% Minoxidil twice a day and Revivogen once a day for 2 weeks now. Last night, before going to bed, I developed a sudden cough with a slight wheeze to it then woke up around 2:30 a.m. with a terrible chill and chattering teeth. I finally drew a very hot bath and stayed in it for a couple of hours until the chill subsided enough to wrap up in blankets in bed. I also took several low dose aspirin that were on hand. When I woke up this morning, I was fine. Could the cough and/or chill be a side effect from Minoxidil or Revivogen?
Emily
AskDocWeb: Neither has been reported as a side effect. More likely it is one of the many “things going around” right now.
Subj: Shaven areas?
Date: 11/9/2008
Hai I am from India I have a heitic hairloss an year ago & I had to shave my head, then I tried of using mintop minioxydle 2%, here I saw significant thick struds growing up to 6 months, then I discontinued it recently I had to take strong anti biotics which again resulted in heavy loss of my hair, I just want to know does minioxydle works effective on shaven areas, if so what % should I take now?
Ronnie
AskDocWeb: Yes, minoxidil works on shaven areas. Just be aware that newly shaved areas may be more sensitive and easily irritated.
Subj: Minoxidil effect glucose level?
Date: 11/14/2008
I am using Mintop 5% from last 5 years…and from last 2 years I am using it only once a day. I want to know whether it affects glucose level of blood/will it affect my pancreas?
Panky
AskDocWeb: We’ve seen several blogs that says Minoxidil can raise your blood glucose levels but no medical texts. It appears they are referring to the pill form of Minoxidil, not the topical solution.
Subj: Dreaming a lot
Date: 11/17/2008

Chinu
AskDocWeb: There have been no reports that minoxidil has any affect on dreams. You may not have noticed but, the more attention you give to dreams the more likely you are to remember them upon awakening.
Subj: Cheek and neck?
Date: 11/18/2008
Hi, I am 27, Male, and on advice of my endocrinologist, I have just started using Minoxidil 2%…I don’t suffer from Baldness. I am using this because of lack of facial hair. Does application of minoxidil on cheek and neck region stimulate hair growth in these regions.
Rajesh
AskDocWeb: Yes, Minoxidil has been reported to grow hair in those regions but only in about 30% of patients.
