Subj: Long-term use of Regaine
Date: 3/9/2009
Hello, I am 27 years old male from Greece and I would like to ask you 2 questions: 1. The first is about minoxidil. I am using Regaine 5% for 2 years in a dosage of 1 ml every day (no side effects occured at all). I recently visited a dermatologist in my town and he told me to stop using minoxidil every day, but only 1ml day by day…why did she told me that? Is there any risk of severe health damage after continously using minoxidil? 2. My second question is about creatine monohydrate. I am using the six star professional whey protein supplement and I have noticed that it has creatine monohydrate in its ingredients. I read recently a study by AFSSA which mentions that creatine may cause cancer and heart disorders. Do you know anything about it? Thanx in advance
GEORGE
AskDocWeb: You will have to ask that dermatologist why they told you that. There are no reports of any damage caused by long-term use. According to Dr. Markus Wyss, the opinion released by AFSSA is misleading and lacks any scientific basis. None of the studies performed so far has shown tumor induction or tumor growth stimulation by creatine. Much to the contrary, creatine had either no effect on tumor growth or, in some studies, even displayed anti-tumor activity.
AFSSA is an acronym for The French Agency of Medical Security for Food.

AskDocWeb: The topical Minoxidil solution has not been studied in pregnant women. Before using this product, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you plan on becoming pregnant.
Subj: Hair falling like crazy
Date: 3/12/2009
Hi I have been using minoxidil for the last 6 months with terrific results. However over the last 6 months my hair has been falling like crazy. I can pinch our 6-7 hairs from my head without much pressure. I am still using the same amount of minoxidil I used to use. Not sure what is wrong.
Joe
AskDocWeb: It is possible that your body has built up a tolerance for the drug and if that is the case then it will no longer work. The Food and Drug Administration has also notice this as you can see by their quote in Drug Facts from the FDA: “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.”
Subj: Itchiness
Date: 3/15/2009
I’ve been using provillus minoxidil for almost 4 months and I’ve seen very little results, but my scalp continued to be itchy. I temporarily stop using it if itchiness is already unbearable, and then continued it again after 2 days. Should I stop using it? I’m afraid to discontinue it because they say that it will cause me more hairfall. Is it true? Please help me decide. Thank u so much!
Elizabeth
AskDocWeb: Discontinuing may cause more hair to fall out but only if it was preventing hair loss. If it wasn’t working then there will be no increase in hair loss. If you do notice an increase in hair loss then you can always start using it again.
Subj: Adverse reaction
Date: 3/17/2009
I recently was advised by my dermatologist to use Rogaine for Men (I am a 71 year old female) to treat thinning hair and patchy baldness. I questioned the Dermatologist after reading the Cautions stated on the package. I was told it was just a label and the Dermatologist knew what he was doing. So, I used the product twice and had an adverse reaction resulting in burning and itching, so I stopped using the product. How can a doctor disregard the cautions stated on the package? I spent nearly $60 for a 3-month supply that I cannot use. I feel this behavior was irresponsible on the Dermatologist’s part. Would appreciate your input. Thank you.
Jessie
AskDocWeb: As a profession, doctors have a range of competence, some great, some good, and some that should not be in the profession. Disregarding warning labels is a serious issue. In the USA, each state has a medical board where you can file complaints. Your Attorney General’s office can refer you to the appropriate place.
Subj: Itching
Date: 3/19/2009
Good informative site. I am using the 5% solution (I found the foam terribly stinky). I have no side affects after 1 month of twice daily applications except for an itching scalp. The scalp is not red or flakey. How can I control this itching without affecting the way the Minoxidil is trying to do its job? Thank you,
Dave
AskDocWeb: Tell your doctor if you notice continued itching, redness, or burning of your scalp after you apply Minoxidil. If the itching is severe, wash the medicine off and check with your doctor before using it again.
Subj: My hair is falling again
Date: 3/21/2009
Hi, I’ve been using Minoxidil 5% for two years now. I’ve been seeing great results till now that my hair is falling again. For that matter I started using DHT Blocker with Minoxidil 5%. Should I stop using minoxidil 5% for a few months and then try again? Should I keep using the DHT Blocker?
Erick
AskDocWeb: We can’t comment on the DHT Blocker until you tell us which one you are using.
Subj: Short fine blonde hairs
Date: 3/27/2009
I’m a 21 year old male and I’ve been using follicare (which uses minoxidil 5%) I have short fine blonde hairs, but I can’t tell if those hairs are new and growing, or old and dying? Please respond.
Dan
AskDocWeb: The only way to tell for sure is to watch them over time to find out what happens. If they grow then great, if not then, well, good luck.
Subj: Facial irritation and chest pain
Date: 3/28/2009
I am 25 & have started using mintop forte(5%) from past one week since its usage I am experiencing a lot of facial irritation & dry scalp. Also little chest pain. Moreover after going through your site I am worried about sexual side effect. Should I continue with this product or stop using it? One last suggestion is hair transplant also got any side effect? Thanks a lot for the valuable information on your site.
Gaurav
AskDocWeb: Sexual side effects are rare and may only occur when there is an overdose.
Subj: 5% Minoxidil?
Date: 3/30/2009
Why is Minoxidil 2% strength for women? Why can they not use 5% strength like men?
Kathy
AskDocWeb: The 5% strength of Minoxidil did not pass the Food and Drug Administration’s tests for safety and effectiveness for use by women.
Subj: How often to wash hair?
Date: 3/31/2009
Hi, I’m 24 year old from past 7 years my hairs are falling and nor I consulted any dermatalogist in those years but now I feel to go as I used so many oil but all in vain nothing helped me. Just 2 months ago I went to a dermatalogist he gave me his shampoo and told me to apply mintop 2% as I can see small hairs are growing but side by side my hair texture is being going poorer and poorer day by day and my hairs are falling too, this is when I use his shampoo. If I wash my hair with head and shoulder and apply mintop on it then my hair texture is also good and less hairfall. Can I use this shampoo and is it necessary to wash my hair everyday? I’m little bald from upper part. Kindly suggest.
Mani
AskDocWeb: How often you wash your hair would depend on how much dirt your hair collects from your daily work environment. It is not necessary to wash your hair every day, maybe every other day.
Subj: Scalp meds is NOT recommended
Date: 3/31/2009
I do NOT recommend Scalp meds as other than minoxidil a lotion causing oily hair and is grossly overpriced.

Subj: Can I get my old hair back
Date: 4/1/2009
I used minoxidil for about 4 months. I had side effects from burning scalp to dandruff. I stopped using it, but I now realize that I have lost more hair…its been a year but I haven’t got my old hair back…can I get my old hair back before I used minoxidil??? Appreciate your help. Thanks,
Furqan
AskDocWeb: Although we would like to be able to tell you how to do that, it just doesn’t seem possible. You might be able to slow your hair loss with something like Provillus or Nisim Biofactors (shampoo) but we don’t see any way to recover what you lost.
Subj: Minoxidil 5%
Date: 4/2/2009
For the five years I have the hair fall problem now I am nearing the bold head and my middle part of my head is getting thinning hair. What to do? I am planning to get marriage. Can I use minoxidil now? I am using pregaine shampoo and minoxidil 5%. Can I continue, if I continue the minoxidil 5% it will affect my married life please kindly advise me with regards,
Pugalendhi
AskDocWeb: If by “married life” you mean intimate relations with your wife, there is very little chance of that happening if you follow directions. Sexual side effects only occur when there is an overdose, which results when too much is absorbed through the skin.
Subj: Washing hair before applying?
Date: 4/7/2009
Mintop 5% can I wash the hair before using mintop 5%.
Vipin
AskDocWeb: You can but you will have to allow time for your hair and scalp to dry before doing that. The instructions say to make sure that your hair and scalp are completely dry before applying this medication.
Subj: Suggest anything?
Date: 4/12/2009
I am thinking of using minoxidil I am young and am starting to thin on my scalp but there is no point is there if it is possible any regrowth would fall out after 48 weeks? Could you suggest anything else other than nisim?
Jamie
AskDocWeb: We are still looking for the perfect solution but in the mean time, take a look at Provillus. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
