Subj: Impotency?
Date: 4/15/2009
Hi, I am 25-male, and am using mintop 5% since more than six months as per my skin specialist doctor, n the use was alternate day. I have got new hair in the vertex and the sides, n got thicker. But since 3 weeks I lost so many hair and still I was using it, now one of my pharmacist freind told me that I should not use it continuously because it increases the impotency in the body. So my question is, Is this true or not? If true, then how much percent and how can I protect myself from that? Is this kind of a side effect of this product? Please advice b’coz I have stopped using it from 4 days.
Syed
AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic erectile dysfunction is a symptom of overdose where too much is absorbed through the skin. That may happen if you apply the product too often or apply it to a newly shaved scalp.

Hi! I am 24, taking minoxidil 5%. Do I need to see doctor if I don’t see any result within 4 months?
Myin
AskDocWeb: If you haven’t had a complete physical since your hair loss started then you may want to get one. There are several diseases and conditions that can cause hair loss.
Subj: Dead hair follicles?
Date: 4/20/2009
My hair loss started from me over possessing my hair; thus receiving massive chemical damage on my scalp. I don’t have an abnormal amount of hair loss, but my hair is currently very thin. I’m thinking that my hair follicles may be dead which is why my hair is thin. Would provillus cause my dead hair follicles to produce hair again?
Carmen
AskDocWeb: Sorry Carmen, we haven’t seen any product that would make dead hair follicles come back to life. Just out of curiosity, what makes you think that your hair follicles are dead? It may be that they are just undernourished, plugged up, or injured and in the process of recovering. If you stop putting those chemicals on your hair then your scalp may have a chance to recover.
Subj: More hair loss
Date: 4/23/2009
I had hairloss(but not alopecia) on age 20, I used finasteride and minoxidil for 1 year, then I stopped using them for about 4 months, then I saw hairs falling again, then I start using them again. I used them for 1 month and it seems that these medications now causing more hair loss for me! What should I do? Stop or continue using them?
Reza
AskDocWeb: You seem to be expecting results faster than what happens in real life. These medication are not causing more hair loss, they just haven’t started working yet. It may take several months of continuous use before your hair loss slow down again.
Subj: South Africa?
Date: 5/1/2009
Is this product available in South Africa? Do I need a prescription for it?
Khanyi
AskDocWeb: You can call your local pharmacy and ask if they have minoxidil. No prescription is required to buy minoxidil in the USA but some countries (like Canada) require one so it is best to ask.
Subj: Baseline?
Date: 5/2/2009
Hi, say currently my hair is at Baseline A. If in 5 years time I do nothing, my hair would thin to Baseline B. Assuming at Baseline A I start using Minoxidil and 5 years later I stop, would my hair drop to Baseline A (where I first started) or Baseline B (where I started plus whatever hair I would have lost in that 5 years anyway)?
Jensen
AskDocWeb: Unfortunately your hair line would revert to Baseline B as you lose whatever hair you would have lost without using anything.
Subj: Minoxidil
Date: 5/3/2009
This is about minoxidil. Please suggest me that I can continue the medication or I can withdraw that. I need your comments please.
Raja
AskDocWeb: We keep looking for one but the sad truth is, there is no product on the market that works for everyone. If this isn’t working then why keep using it?
Subj: Hair growth?
Date: 5/5/2009
Hi! I m using Minoxidil 5% since last 3 months and I found a reduce in hair fall. Although I would like to ask whether it will promote the hair growth and can I use any other herbal oil with Minoxidil to promote hair growth.
Sunil
AskDocWeb: There is no way to know if it will work for hair growth until you have used it for awhile, several months. You can use other products while you are using minoxidil but don’t mix them together for use at the same time. In other words, use them at different times of the day. Please note that there are some herbs that interact with medication.
Subj: Shampoo and conditioner on daily basis?
Date: 5/6/2009

Can I use shampoo and conditioner on daily basis and can I use any other herbal oil with minoxidill simultaneously to promote hair growth…plz suggest me…presently I am keeping my hair sort can I increase them and have a hair style…plz suggest soon.
Sunil
AskDocWeb: You should be able to use a shampoo and conditioner on daily basis as long as you are sure that those products do not cause hair loss, some do.
Subj: Minoxidil on my mustache
Date: 5/7/2009
I am using minoxidil for alopecia and it is helping me I have hair loss on my montasche and beard also can I apply little on my face also. Thanks, also please informed me regularly regarding new products in the market.
Aamir
AskDocWeb: One of the problems with Minoxidil is that, for some people, it will grow hair just about anywhere on the skin where it is applied. If you want to use it on your face, that is up to you but we don’t recommend that. We have a list of hair loss products and any new ones will be listed here.
Subj: Mintop Forte 5%
Date: 5/13/2009
Hello sir.. I m 25 yr of age from Delhi, I’m having the problem of hair fall from front head & both corners of head & some hair falls from the centre portion so finally I reached to dermitalogist & he advised me to use Mintop Forte 5% at night only (1ml) & take one tablet of Finpecia every night & in the morning wash it with his prescribed Medicated shampoo & another day any mildy shampoo. So I’m pursuing it since four days. I’m not applying any oil while taking the medication, so my hair become rough, dry & without any shine. Can I apply some oil on my hairs? I feel very ockword because of it. My quality of hair r very thin. Can I apply 5% twice a day? & what should be the gap in applying it? Doctor told me to wash my hair with two shampoo alternate days (one day mildy & another day medicated one) & process should be repeted for a month & than get back to review him. So will there be any harm to wash my hairs with shampoo every day for a month before review? Will I get my hair back, I mean regrowth will take how much time?
Saurabh
AskDocWeb: Applying oil to your hair should not cause any problems but using the Mintop Forte more than instructed may cause irritation and/or dandruff. There is a good chance of getting at least some hair back although it may take 3 to 6 months before you start seeing good results.

Date: 5/14/2009
Hi for the past two years am using mintop 5%. Till before three months I was not having any problem and the hairs were growing very fine. But before three months I stopped mintop and I was applying normal hair oil. Just after three months hair fall started vigorously and I started using mintop 5% again. Just after using 5 days my heart was paining and am having tiredness too. My question is, why I was not having this problem for the past 2 years and am having that now? What should I do now? Kindly help,
Joris
AskDocWeb: Something has changed and it would be a good idea to consult with your health care provider to find out what that is.

Subj: Skin is getting darker
Date: 5/20/2009
Hi I’ve been using minoxidil 5%for a year or so. At the beginning it worked very well but eventually I did realize that the colure of my skin is getting darker so I don’t really know whether this is happening as a result of the minoxidil or have some other causes. Please do let me know about this.
Shahram
AskDocWeb: Skin discoloration is not listed as a side effect of minoxidil so we would look for other causes.
Subj: Pore enlargement, wrinkles, and black rings around eyes
Date: 5/23/2009
I have suffered pore enlargement wrinkles and black rings around my eye from Minoxidil 5%. I read your response to a similar question (The flaking will go away, but the frown wrinkles probably won’t. The skin discoloration beneath your eyes should go away and the puffiness too) and wondered if this is a common problem with this medication when used in this way? Thanks,
Mark
AskDocWeb: It looks like the manufacturer doesn’t publish statistics on what percentage of people experience this side effect.

AskDocWeb: There are no warning about minoxidil being secreted in semen so that is not a concern.
