Subj: Genetic hair loss
Date: 7/5/2009
I’ve been on and off Minoxidil for the last 10 years as I’m suffering from genetic hair loss. Recently, my scalp is clearly becoming balder so I’ve changed to 5% Minoxidil instead of the 2%, is this safe for a woman age 33 using 5%? Also, I wash my hair everyday, would this be a problem? Thanks!
Esmerelda
AskDocWeb: Washing your hair every day shouldn’t be a problem unless your hair is very dry. The 5% minoxidil solution is generally not recommended for use by women because in clinical trials they were inclined to grow hair in areas where minoxidil was not applied such as on the face and forehead. This suggests that minoxidil is more likely to get into the blood stream of women and cause systemic hair growth as compared to men, which might be dangerous for those who have low blood pressure. At least one study suggests that the 5% solution is not more effective than the 2% in females.
Subj: I have 2 young kids
Date: 7/6/2009
Hi I am male in mid 30th and have been using minoxidil for 6 months. I have 2 young kids. My wife recently urged me to stop applying chemicals on my head and said it will poison the kids if they happened to touch my hair. How much damage could minocidil do if kids swallow it by small amount? Thanks,
Tim
AskDocWeb: We have seen nothing to indicate any problems once the product is dry. Even when wet Minoxidil is not well absorbed through the skin. The warning says that Minoxidil may cause harm if it is swallowed. If taken it by mouth, contact your poison control center or emergency room right away.
Subj: Minoxidil 5%
Date: 7/7/2009
HI, I am 27 years old male with hair thinning all over the scalp within 6 month times due to smoking heavily 2 years ago(but I have quit since I stated using minoxidil). I have been using minoxidil 5% for 3 weeks, I was wondering will it help to regrowth my hair according to my situation? Thank you in advance.
Darren
AskDocWeb: Quitting the smoke habit does increase your circulation and that should improve your results with minoxidil but don’t get in a hurry. It may take several months to see results.
Subj: Animoxil
Date: 7/7/2009
Hi, I’m 24 yrd male facing a problem of shedding my hair from last 5yrs but now I started applying minoxidil 2% and animoxil 2% in a solution named Hair4U …I have just used 1 bottle and after that I stopped being afraid of its side-effects. What if I apply Mintop 2% and immediately after that I apply hair oil?. Also what if after application I make my hair wet by applying water. Will this make any difference?
Anubhav
AskDocWeb: Sorry, we have no data on animoxil so the result of combining it with minoxidil is unknown.

Subj: Minoxin with Hairfin tab
Date: 7/8/2009
Hello, I used Minoxin 5% with Hairfin tab for almost 1 year, I got positive results. I regain hair specially on backside of my head. But now I left it and I am again becoming bald from back side. What should I do now? Should I start it again? Is this product avaialable in Saudi Arabia? Please reply bcz I am very much upset. How long time should I use it to completely regain my hair?
Shahrukh
AskDocWeb: One of the disadvantages of all the hair loss products is that in order to keep the benefits, you have to keep using the product. We have no data on the Hairfin tab. In which country did you buy it?
Subj: It takes time
Date: 7/11/2009
Minoxidol is better to get back your hairs from alophocia areata but it takes time more than 8 months.

AskDocWeb: Minoxidil seems to work for some men but it also seems to be a temporary solution. According to the FDA, “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” (source file is a PDF)
Subj: 20 year old
Date: 7/17/2009
Hi guys, I have read the situations and I would like to point out the actual truth and resutls of minoxidil and finasteride( propecia ). I am 20 years old I lost a minimal ammount of hair in the front of my scalp but I don’t like it. My parents are both doctors so we went and saw a friend of theirs the best there is around here. Minoxidil WOrks 70 % to completely stop hair loss. OF this 70% a 40 % can see medium to little hair regrowth and a 15 % can see big hair regrowth. The problem with this medicines is that they are ideal to be used at my age around 18-25 and thats why they can at least save your hair, and the regrowth, no matter how minimal it is, with regrow the wanted hair because at young age you have little hair loss. Finasteride ( propecia ) is a little stronger and much easier to use ( I myself have made using minoxidil as a routine now ) but has much worse side effects. For my self I believe minoxidil is working. 2 half kmonths and I already see little hair growing and focules, but I am instructed that minoxydil if working should be uses for the rest of your life. After 5 months I will create a feedback to show you all. Thanks,
Stefanos
AskDocWeb: Thank you Stefanos, we look forward to your feedback.
Subj: Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction
Date: 7/19/2009
Sir I am 26 male. I was prescribed to take Curlzfin and Minioxidil 5% for 3 months. I have been taking these for last 1 month. I have decreased libido and erectile dysfunction and more over decreased ejaculation. Could these side effects will be reversed once I stop them after 3rd month? Or I have to under go further treatment for side effects to get remedy. Please clear my doubt? Will it cause serious problem of sperm count etc., ?
SURESHPANDIAN
AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic if you overdose on Minoxidil it may cause a decrease in sexual ability or desire. An overdose may occur if too much Minoxidil is absorbed through the skin. If so then the symptoms should go away once the Minoxidil is discontinued.
Subj: Regain hair and reduce hair loss?
Date: 7/20/2009
Hi Sir, My name is Naresh staying in India (Delhi). My problem is that my hair has become very thin and I have lost some hair. Whenever I apply Oil to my hair my hair is so thin that I lose lot’s of hair. Is there any way how I can regain back my hair and reduce further hair loss? One of my friends told me that by using Mintop Oil (DR Reddy’s) will stop the hair fall and helps in regaining the hair. The nearest doctor advice I use 2% mintop oil. But no more benifit. Kindly suggest me a what time looks benifit, pls give me some extra suggestion, what time I regularly use mintop. Thanking You,
Naresh
AskDocWeb: The instructions for minoxidil say to apply it 2 times a day, every day but Mintop has its own instructions so be sure to read them. The exact time of day that it is applied makes no difference in the effectiveness of the product.
Subj: Cradle cap (flaky skin)
Date: 7/21/2009
I have been using Regaine for 4 months now and all has been fine. I have experienced hair regrowth and recently got cradle cap (flaky skin). Then the last couple of days I’ve woken up with swollen eyes and very, very dry skin around my face, which is very tight and tender. I did feel pulsating on top of my head but since removing most of the dry skin it does feel a bit better. Is this because of the regaine? I dont want to stop using it because I just cant go back to having no hair again. Is this a serious side effect or will it pass in a few days?
Ryan, 22 y/o
AskDocWeb: Swelling of the face is listed as one of the signs that too much Minoxidil is being absorbed through the skin, which means that you may be getting an overdose. You may need to consult with your doctor but at least read the instructions again to make sure that you are using it correctly.
Subj: New hair growth
Date: 7/22/2009
I am 33 years old & have recently noticed new hair growth on my chin, forehead, and tip/sides of my nose. It came on suddenly and I am trying to figure out why and how to stop it. I have seen my dermatologist and primary care physician. They simply said it was normal and not noticeable since they are whitish hairs. To me, it is and I know it was not there before. My boyfriend has been using an Avacor product which contains 5% minoxidil. Do you think there is any way that it could get on a pillow or towel that I’ve used to cause this hair growth?
JM
AskDocWeb: That seems unlikely and there are no reports of that happening. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
