Subj: 5% minoxidil and facial hair growth
Date: 7/24/2009
I am a female of 23 years old and have been suffering hair thinning & loss from the last 3 years. I have read about minoxidil(2% for men & 5% for women). I am using mintop(minoxidil 5%)for the last 10 days. I am worried because I have read that 5% for is not FDA approved. I want to use 5% for the month and would use 2%. Please suggest can I continue 5% as I heard that 5 % increases the facial hair grow. I am worried please advice.
Suman
AskDocWeb: The liquid is supposed to grow hair only where it has contact with the skin but there are a several reports of increased hair growth in other areas including facial hair. The instructions say to check with your doctor as soon as possible if you have an increase in size or darkness of fine body hair.
Subj: How many months for results?
Date: 7/27/2009
I have used mintop 2% for two months and I feel there is no difference and how many months I should wait for the result or should I upgrade my drug to mintop 5% immediately? Thank you,
Dheeraj
AskDocWeb: We would give any hair loss product 6 months to find out how well it will work. Some manufacturers say that it can take up to a year to see results.
Subj: I am way too young
Date: 7/30/2009
Hey I am an 18 year old and I’m starting to have very rapid hair loss…how can I stop it? I have a family history of hair loss…my dad has it…my uncles on both my fathers and mothers side have hair loss…will minoxidil help my hair loss and cause regrowth as well? I’m prepared to have hair loss eventually but right now I am way too young…Can u Help me?
Eighteen
AskDocWeb: How you stop hair loss, if it is possible, depends on what is causing the problem. Even if you are in good shape and feel fine we would still get a complete physical to rule out thyroid and other possible health issues that might be causing the hair loss. In the mean time you can read up on hair loss products on this page.
Subj: Minoxidil tropical solution
Date: 8/1/2009
Hey, I’m a 19 year old female. My hair loss has been severe enough to visit a doctor. My doctor told me to use Minoxidil tropical solution usp 5% (Mintop Forte). But reading some of these reviews, I not entirely sure if I should. Can females use it? And will the hair fall off if I stop using the product?
Nishi
AskDocWeb: The 5% solution of Minoxidil is approved by the FDA for use by men but not women. The stronger formula has a higher risk of causing scalp irritation, itching, dryness, and the growth of facial hair in women.
Subj: Stopped using mintop2
Date: 8/2/2009
I’m 26 years old, finding it effective, I used mintop2 regularly for 1 year, but since last 4 months I have completely stop using it, as I went through my second delivery, but now I can see alot of hair fall, and in last December I did my hair straightened, that is around 7 months from now. So, does sudden stop of mintop or my delivery or my hair straightening what is the reason of hair fall, and how can I control it?
Mrs.I
AskDocWeb: When you stop using a product like Mintop you stop getting the benefits of that product and the hair begins to fall out again. The hair continues to fall out until you have lost all the hair that you would have lost if you had never used the product. After that the hair falls out at whatever rate it was falling out before you started using the product. If you want the benefits you have to start using it again or choose another product for hair loss.
Subj: Minoxidil 10%
Date: 8/5/2009
I am 23 yrs old girl and have been using Minoxidil 10% from last one week. I want to know that usually side effects are seen in how many days, if any. I am worried about the side effects mentioned on the box about facial hair growth. I’ve heard that this product is only for males. Is it so?
Aashi
AskDocWeb: In the USA the women’s formula of minoxidil is 2% and the men’s formula is 5%. There is a legitimate concern about facial hair growth because your 10% formula is five times as strong as what women here use.
Subj: Birth control?
Date: 8/5/2009
I am a healthy 27yr old male. I’ve heard if women take minoxidil it can effect their birth control. My question is if I use minoxidil effect my partner’s birth control?
Justin
AskDocWeb: Minoxidil has not been reported to have any affect on the effectiveness of birth control.
Subj: Re: Monoxidil
Date: 8/6/2009
Are there any known side effects for those using monoxidil for over 15 years, twice daily. How long can the product be safely administered? Can the body grow immune to this product? There are three children in our home, is there any reason for concern if using this product around children? Thank you for your response in advance.
Marcus
AskDocWeb: As far as we know a safe upper time limit on the use of Minoxidil has not been established. According to the FDA, “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” (from the US government’s FDA website). Caution is indicated when using any flammable product around children and Minoxidil is flammable until it dries out. Keep Minoxidil out of the reach of children.
Subj: Dilation of the arteries
Date: 8/15/2009
Hi I’m 19 years old and my hairline has started to recede. My dermitologist gave me minoxidil 5% tropical solution to use but I’ve also read that it causes dilation of the arteries which may be dangerous. Is this true?
Mustafa
AskDocWeb: Yes, minoxidil was originally used to treat high blood pressure by dilating the blood vessels but that was in pill form. That affect is mostly localized to the area where applied when using the topical product.
Subj: Excessive hair growth
Date: 8/17/2009
I have had excessive hair growth all over back, front, face I’ve since stopped but its only been a week. I just want to be reassured that my excessive hair will eventually go away to how it was.
James
AskDocWeb: Yes, that is actually one of the biggest complaints about minoxidil, if you stop using it you lose the hair that it caused to grow.
Subj: Facial hair
Date: 8/18/2009
According to the Dermatologist’s advice I applied Men’s 5% extra Rogaine. I am a 35 year old woman. After 40 days of use I noticed facial hair on upper lip and around the mouth. On the forehead and arms I noticed hair growth. The doctor said to stop the use. I got burns around lips. My first question is can I get rid of this facial hair? After this I was advice to take slow Fe iron supplement for low ferritin level in blood. After stopping rogaine I am taking slow Fe tablets. My second question is, is the iron tablet disturb the facial hair fall? When will I get rid of the facial hair? How many days it will take? Thanks for answers. (anybody has got rid of the facial hair after stopping the use of the product? )
Yemkay
AskDocWeb: Losing the extra hair is likely to take a lot more than just a few days. Once you discontinue the Rogaine the extra hair should be gone within 12 months. The idea that taking an iron supplement might slow the loss of that extra hair is interesting but we have no data on it.
Subj: Normal or not
Date: 8/20/2009
Hello, my name is Sameer. I am 22 years old and my problem hair loss. When I wash my hair it loss 10 or 15 and when I touch to my hair some times it loss 3 or 5. Sameer
AskDocWeb: It is normal to lose some hair, about 100 hairs a day is common. We have no data on Epivite or Hairfin tablets.
Subj: Redness and itching
Date: 8/22/2009
Can I use provillus tablets along with rogain 5% since rogain and provillus topical are the same. Should I keep going to use when redness and itching occur? Will redness and itching cause hairs to fall?
Micheal
AskDocWeb: The redness and itching will not cause hair loss but scratching that itch could cause problems. For some people the redness and itching become unacceptable and they stop using the topical solution. We haven’t looked at using Provillus tablets with the Rogain 5% solution but you are right, the active ingredient in both topical solutions is minoxidil.
Subj: Mintop did not work
Date: 8/26/2009
I am 27 year old. I have high tendency of hair fall since 2003 mens from last six years. I used mintop forte 5 % for two months, but it does not worked, now again I want to use mintop. Can I use, will it work?
Anwar
AskDocWeb: Sorry Anwar, if it did not work the first time then it is not likely to work with a second try.
Subj: Facial hair growth
Date: 9/3/2009
Minoxidil topical solution usage for 6 wks 1ml twice a day caused facial hair growth. I have stopped using it. How long will it take for the hair on face to fall out? Is it completely reversible?
Rashma
AskDocWeb: We have yet to hear of a case where it was not reversible although it may take from weeks to months for that to happen. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
