Subj: How long it will take
Date: 10/7/2009
After just about 2 weeks on rogaine foam, I’ve noticed the decrease in sexual desire and weaker erections. I stopped immediately after reading other people’s postings, but wanted to know how long it will take to get things back to normal.

Mike

AskDocWeb: So far users have not reported how long it took to recover from sexual problems caused by an overdose of minoxidil.

Subj: Fainted
Date: 10/8/2009
Hi I have been using Minoxidil for about four months and have seen some improvement in hair regrowth. I have had some side effect such as itching scalp. I recently purchased a new batch and after about three or four weeks use I have experienced light headedness which I have not experienced before, and I recently fainted. I am a little worried. Will these side effects reduce over time? I would prefer not to stop use, as Minoxidil appears to be working. What do you advise?

Richard

AskDocWeb: Since you fainted it would be wise to check with your doctor. It is possible that you may have an unrelated problem.

Subj: Impotency?
Date: 10/8/2009
I am 25yr old. I am using mintop forte from 2mths.i have not seen any changes in hair growth and I want to ask you that will this medicine affect my sexual desires? Will it lead to any impotency?

Abhi

AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic, impotency may result if too much is absorbed through the skin. Do not use more, or more often than directed by the instructions.

Subj: 31yr old male
Date: 10/8/2009
Hi, I am a 31yr old male experiencing hair loss. Someone recommended regain oil with 5% minoxidil. Should I start using it? I dont want to take any risk and lose whatever is left on my head. Also is there any shampoos that can help hair loss? Please also tell me the directions (frequency and amount) of usage both. Thanks,

Schahzad

AskDocWeb: The various manufacturers each have different instructions for their product and we suggest you follow them. For a shampoo that can help with hair loss, try Nisim Biofactors.

AskDocWeb: A few people have reported alarming amounts of shedding and for some of them it was reason enough for them to quit using the product. That is something you need to decide for yourself.

Subj: Mintop 2%?
Date: 10/11/2009
I have been using minidoxil 2% for the 2nd week I’m a 25yr old … My problem is that I’m balding only on the front end of my head. How to using Procedure of mintop 2%? What difference between mintop percentage?

K.

AskDocWeb: If your Mintop 2% is the 2% solution of minoxidil then it should be applied only to those areas where you want hair to grow. And avoid getting it on areas where you don’t want hair growth. The difference between percentages is that the larger the percentage number, the solution is more concentrated or stronger. The higher the percentage number the more chance there is of side effects.

Subj: Minoxyl 10% solution
Date: 10/12/2009
Hello, I am 26yrs old male and have been loosing hair for almost 2 years after getting a 1 year skin treatment from Dr. Batras. My scalp is oily and has minute powdry inflamation, on scratching the same something hard and white comes out. On checking with a dermatologist, she suggested me to use Minoxyl 10% solution, Anaphase Shampoo and XTin Plus tablet for 2 months before next visit. Please suggest if this is the right treatment. She has identified this as Male Pattern Balding. Your suggestion will be very helpful for me to decide on this treatment!

Rohit

AskDocWeb: In the USA the 10% strength is considered experimental. Not enough is known about the side effects to make a suggestion one way or another. With the stronger solutions of minoxidil there have been reports of hair growing in places other than where is was applied. For example, women here are limited to the 2% solution because those who used the 5% strength reported unwanted facial hair growth.

Subj: Dizziness and lightheadedness
Date: 10/14/2009
Hello, I have used topical monoxidil for hair loss for almost a year and couple of months along with propecia. I have been complaining lately from dizzines and lightheadednes. I am wondering if those side effects are reversable after stopping both medications as requested by my dermatologist. In all cases thank you very much regards.

Patric

AskDocWeb: We have yet to hear of any case where those side effects persisted after the medication was discontinued.

Subj: No effect in frontal area
Date: 10/18/2009

Subj: Monoxidil 2%

I’m 19. I’ve been using it for about 7 weeks I have a receding hairline. All that has happened is my hair has receding more and thinned out all over, like my hair is shedding every where. Could that be from it rubbing off in my sleep or just the shedding phase? How long should this last? What do you guys think about it being used on a receding hairline. In alot of blogs it says it works in others it doesnt. But if I were to stop would all the hairs that shedded in the last 7 weeks be monoxidil dependent or would they grow back. And my final question is if monoxidil is not the right product, which would slow down my hair loss?

Vmccombie

AskDocWeb: We can only guess about the shedding. Others have reported going through a period of shedding that starts in the first or second month and lasts from 4 to 6 weeks. Such shedding seems to happen with all the hair loss products but only occurs in a small percentage of users. Only those who continue using the product have reported the regrowth of hair that was lost in the shedding phase. Unfortunately there is not enough data available to tell you what the chances are of that happening for you. Those who discontinued Minoxidil have not reported the regrowth of any hair lost during the shedding phase that occurred while using the product.

There are two products you may want to take a look at; Provillus is a supplement and Nisim NewHair Biofactors is a shampoo and extract that fights hair loss.

Subj: Does Minoxidil cause pimples?
Date: 10/23/2009
Small white head pimples on my back with Minoxidil use? I’ve never had a zit in my life and I just turnen 51… ???

Steve

AskDocWeb: It is likely to be a coincidence because Minoxidil has not been reported to cause pimples.

Subj: Minoxidil with betamethasone?
Date: 10/23/2009
Can I use minoxidil 5% together with betamethasone? How should I apply it? Will it have any side effects?

Federic

AskDocWeb: There is a moderately serious drug interaction between minoxidil and betamethasone with concerns about sodium retention and fluid retention. If you are taking betamethasone consult with your doctor first. You may or may not be able to use both.

Subj: Minoxy 5%
Date: 10/26/2009
My hairfall increases after using minoxy 5%. It also causes itching as well as irritation and pimples in the area of application. Can it be one of the causes of haifall? Suggest some good ways to regain my lost hair density.

Abilash

AskDocWeb: There have been several reports of increased hair loss (hairfall) during the first few weeks of use. This is generally referred to as shedding and has been reported to last from 4 to 6 weeks. You may or may not be able to regain your lost hair density. That depends on the cause of your hair loss. If it is caused by a medical condition, such as a thyroid problem, you may need a medical exam or physical to discover it. If your hair loss is caused by stress, learning new ways to cope with stress or reducing the stress should help. Remember that your are not supposed to shampoo your hair for 4 hours after applying minoxidil. And keep away from open flames while the solution is wet because it is flammable.

Subj: Minoxidil to prevent hair loss?
Date: 10/26/2009
Hi, I was wondering if this medication is also taken preventatively for the hair loss. Thank you,

NL

AskDocWeb: We have seen no research that supports the use of minoxidil to prevent hair loss.

Subj: Weight gain using mintop 5%
Date: 10/28/2009
I am using mintop for over 10 months, got very good result, but gained weight too very rapidly, is it a side effect of mintop?

Chakri

AskDocWeb: Rapid weight gain may be a sign of fluid retention or a heart problem and should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Spray minoxidil
Date: 10/29/2009
I am using minoxidil 2% from past 20 days till now I see no change, I spray minoxidil on the front bald area as some of it rolls on the sides where my hair is strong and healthy I want to know what effect will I get to that part of hair where minoxidil is not needed.

Khan

AskDocWeb: There may or may not be additional hair growth in that area. There is also the possibility of experiencing side effects like inflammation, skin flaking, and dandruff.

Subj: After applying minoxidil
Date: 10/29/2009
Can I wash my hair 2 hours after application of minoxidil? Can I blow dry and use hair products 2 hours after application? Thank you.

Diane

AskDocWeb: Dispite what you may have read on some websites, the Mayo Clinic and every other professional reference we have seen says that you should avoid getting your scalp or hair wet for 4 hours after applying minoxidil, that includes shampoo. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
