Subj: Huge mistake to start Minoxidil
Date: 12/17/2009
It was a huge mistake to start myself on Minoxidil. My hair was normal before starting, but I was just concerned about my mature hairline because some stupid friends were pointing it out all the time. After 8 months (of no change), I decided to stop and I was balding so severely all over within a month. I frantically restarted it and my hair has never been the same as it was before. My confidence is pretty much gone.

Subj: Alternatives to procerin?
Date: 12/22/2009
Hi, I am 23 years of age and it seems that my hair has become thinner in the past 5 months due to increased sexual activty. My hair was very thick earlier and the scalp was not visible at all but now I can see the scalp. I have started taking minoxidil rogaine 5% since the past 4 months along with biotin tablets in consultation with my doc. There is no visible hair loss now-around 5-6 strands a day. Just wondering if I would get my hair back to full strength and also if it would be possible to stop taking minoxidil at a later stage without hair loss resuming. If possible also let me know if there are any alternatives to procerin(Such as shampoos or tablets with saw palmetto) available in India.

Lionel

AskDocWeb: Every product for hair loss on the market has one thing in common; you have to continue using it in order to keep the benefits. For an alternative to Procerin, take a look at Provillus. The shampoo for those with hair loss is Nisim New Hair Biofactors.

Subj: Developing facial hair
Date: 12/25/2009
Hello, I have been using Minoxidil 5% for 4 months now, my question is should I stop using it and try something different because I am developing facial hair and it is staring to get noticeable. Thank you.

Annie

AskDocWeb: The growth of facial hair is one of the reasons why the 5% solution is not recommended for women. Minoxidil, sold as Rogaine® 2%, is the only medication officially approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss in women.

Subj: Long-term use of Minoxidil?
Date: 12/25/2009
r/sir good evening I am using Minoxidil for last four months. I have got all my hairs back. For how many period can I used it? Is there any side effects if I used it for long period?

Munish

AskDocWeb: As far as we know, no upper limit has been established on the length of time that Minoxidil can be safely used. The most frequently reported long-term effects are scalp irritation, allergic contact dermatitis, and increased facial hair.

Subj: Topical Minoxidil with Finasteride mixed in?
Date: 12/26/2009
I’m James, I’ve been seeing overall thinning and gradual receeding since I was 15 (Now almost 19), I believe I’m a 2 on the Norwood scale but find it difficult to style my hair as the temples are gone. I tried Procerine for 2 months until I found out it was a scam, so I turned to Minoxidil. I’ve been using Kirkland minoxidil for just under 2 months now and have alot of good stuff to say.
1. I had little to no shed so far, as I noticed no increase in loss apart from the usual few dozen a day.

2. I noticed an increase in vellus hairs at my temples a week into using it (Looked before using then shaved a small area of each temple to make it easier to see the growth)

3. After another week I noticed very small brown hairs coming through at the temples, more on the right side.

4. Essentially 2 months in and I have 1cm ± long hairs I’m my temples nearest the rest of the hair and at almost the same thickness (hair, not density), this can be seen at a distance.

5. The centre of my temples show regrowth but alot less than nearer existing hair.

I plan on coming back to post again after 6 months of use to detail my progress, which I would hope to be great as it seems I have seen regrowth much earlier than most people. I have read about trials on long term use of minoxidil and that the hair can return to baseline at around 15 years of continued use due to the body building a tolerance, at this time would switching to a much higher dose work?
Also, as I had some procerin tablets left I crumbled one into my second bottle of minoxidil, I’m not too sure if this has had any effect but growth has been faster this month than last, would it have had any effect at all? As the main ingredient is Saw Palmetto I expected it to have a similar (but obviously weaker effect) as topical Minoxidil with Finasteride mixed in.

James

AskDocWeb: We have no data on mixing Minoxidil with saw palmetto but the idea of mixing Minoxidil with Finasteride is a very scary idea and would pose a danger to those around you. Please read about the potential for causing birth defects if pregnant women come in contact with Finasteride (Propecia).

Subj: Benefits from using Minoxidil?
Date: 12/27/2009
you said that minoxidil works for only 48 weeks which means after that it is not possibe to see any benefits from using this or should be stopped for several weeks to reuse to see benefits

Jack

AskDocWeb: We did not say that Minoxidil works “only” for 48 weeks but rather we can’t recommend using it beyond that time because according to Drug Facts from the FDA Quote: “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” Unquote.

It may be possible to stop using it for a few weeks and get benefits from starting again but there isn’t enough feedback from those doing that to tell how well that might work.

Subj: Grow facial hair
Date: 12/29/2009
I am really worry. I start to grow facial hair like mustache right after I stop using minoxidil. and I am totally sad, because the hair doesn’t grow, but the mustache grow. can it gone? or is there’s any possibility it will stay forever, because that is what I heard that in some case it stay forever. How long it takes to be gone? Should I pluck it?

Santi

AskDocWeb: It may take several months for the unwanted facial hair go away but it usually does. If you want it to go away faster, it is possible to help that process by using a growth inhibitor such as Vaniqa.

Subj: Treatment duration
Date: 12/30/2009
Hi, I have been using minoxidil for 4 months now and there has been some progress. My hair loss has stopped and there is some new hair growth- still in the initial stage of mbp. Just wondering If there is any treatment duration or I will need to continue taking this throughout my life!…

Lionel

AskDocWeb: No treatment duration has been established for the use of Minoxidil. As long as it continues to work, you have to continue using it to keep the benefits.

Subj: Rapid heartbeat and chest pain
Date: 12/30/2009
I’m 19 and I have been having a rapid heartbeat and chest pain. How long does this last when you stop using Rogaine? Do I have to see a doctor?

Michael

AskDocWeb: In order to be as safe as possible, any chest pain should be evaluated by your doctor.

Subj: Sudden hair loss!
Date: 12/31/2009
Hi, I started taking Minoxodil 5% about a month ago, and I experienced sudden hair loss compared to what was the case before using the product. Is it normal? Should I have to continue or discontinue the treatment in this case?

Hady

AskDocWeb: The instructions note that there is a slight risk of initial shedding or hair loss that may occur within a couple of weeks but it also says that you should check with your doctor if you have an increase of hair loss.

Subj: Starting 5% minoxidil at 61
Date: 12/31/2009
Yesterday I went to the Belgravia clinic and was prescribed 5% minoxidil which I will start taking tomorrow. I’m 61 years of age and always had a good head of hair until 12 months ago when for some reason it started to fall out. Having read the comments on this web site I am now totally and utterly scared about starting the treatment, if I have two months of shedding I think I will be totally bald before I get any new hair growing, but I just hope and pray that my shedding won’t be too severe or last too long. Watch this space and please keep your fingers crossed for me !! Thanks everyone.

Subj: Mintop 10
Date: 12/31/2009
I’m using a mintop 10 from 6 month plz tell any problem or side effect for using this any spum releted problem can arise?

Raj

AskDocWeb: We are not familiar with “spum” but if you can define it that would help. The most common problem with Mintop 10 is scalp flaking and irritation. Remember that this product is flammable until it is dry so keep open flames away. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
