Subj: Hair loss due to change of atmosphere?
Date: 1/1/2010
Hi I am 31F, we recently came to Saudi from India. After a few weeks I noticed loosing of hair. Started using MINTOP 2% but the shedding of hair wont stop. I have used it for more than 6 months and still using. But I am still loosing a great deal of hair on top of the head. When I go India I find that the shedding reduces. Do u think the hair loss is due to change of atmosphere, or there is no relation to it? Pls advice me, as I am going through a lot of tension because of this hairloss. I am really lossing lot of hair and already I am seeing my white scalp on the top above the hairline. I am really scared. I am having no other medical problems which can lead to hair loss. pls give me some advice.
Jagadish
AskDocWeb: Your change in atmosphere is really a change in environment, which can be quite stressful. High levels of stress can cause many physical and emotional problems, including hair loss. We aren’t saying that stress is the only cause of your hair loss but it is a proven cause for many people. When you notice that you are experiencing tension because of hair loss, you might remind yourself that the tension you feel is making the problem worse. Take a deep breath and relax. Now you have a choice. You can continue to worry about it, making the problem worse, or do something to relieve your stress.

Is it true that regain can affect and stop you from having children and stops all reproduction? Can you explain the side affects of using mintop?
Naveen
AskDocWeb: There are a few possible side effects but it does not stop reproduction. The most common side effects are scalp flaking and irritation.

Date: 1/4/2010
Hello, I am Male, 24 year olds, I start to use rogaine minoxidil 5% 3 months ago, now I am feeling my scalp is itchy. What should I do? I am using rogaine once a day, does it as effective as twice a day?

Subj: Hair shedding
Date: 1/6/2010
I started using minoxidill topical solution 2% from 2 weeks and instead of hair growth I see hair shedding? What is happening to me I am under deep depression pls help???
Pallavi
AskDocWeb: The patient insert for minoxidil does say that there may be an initial period of increased hair loss shortly after starting use. Reports from users say that this lasts from 2 to 4 weeks.
Subj: What percentage to start?
Date: 1/11/2010
I want to use minoxidil as m loosing lot of hair from front and there’s thining as well. but I dont know how much percentage I should start with. Plz help…
Abcd
AskDocWeb: Typically men use the 5% solution and women use the 2% solution. The 2% formula is not recommended for women because of reports of unwanted facial hair growth.

Hi, 7 months ago I started taking progesterone pills and since I realized my hair loss more and becoming thinner at the roots, the Dr opinion was it is from medication, so I stopped it a month ago and I started taking biotin pills and minoxidil 2%, I dont know if it works but I felt the loss is becoming less, I hope u could help me if there something else to do. thank u
Margo
AskDocWeb: The only other thing you might do is to use a shampoo that fights hair loss like Nisim NewHair Biofactors.
Subj: Loosing eyebrows
Date: 1/23/2010
I have been loosing my eyebrows steady ever since about 15 yrs back. 40% left of eyebrows are very strong like of men actually and can grow very long. Don’t like either the pigbristle (as I do call them) or not having either. Does the Minoxidil work with Cortisone? If so what strength, pls. I don’t like pencilling in and it gets more difficult now due to eyesite loss. Pencilling brows with glasses is not easy. Help anyone. Someone has experience with this? Thank you.

Subj: Flakes, puffiness, and itching
Date: 1/26/2010
Hello, Nice to see this forum which is quite inforamtive and useful. I started experiencing hair loss from last one year and specifically at the temples and at front part of forehead. My GP suggested me to use Minoxidil 5% solution. I am using it from past one month and I can see tiny appearence of tiny new hairs with decreased shedding of hairs. But, I found generation of flakes over scalp skin where minoxidil is applied and puffiness over eyelids or itching and then puffiness along the eyebrows. This seems to be side effect due to minoxidil. Is it normal? can I continue minoxdil? One more thing you suggest gradually minimise minoxidil and continue with suppliments like Procerin or Advecia. Do you recommand me the same? Thank you for your advise.
Sam
AskDocWeb: Scalp flaking is one of the most common side effects of Minoxidil and although less common, itching is also a possible side effect. The puffiness indicates swelling and that could be problem. Any swelling of the face, hands, feet, or lower legs may indicate either an allergic reaction or an overdose caused by too much being absorbed through the skin. The manufacturer says that this is rare and any swelling should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: 10% Minoxidil, any side affects?
Date: 1/26/2010
Hi, I am 26 years old and I went to doctor for the hair loss. He suggested me to have 10% minoxidil and could you please tell me whether any side affects if I use 10% minoxidil. Thanks and regards,
Sri
AskDocWeb: Yes, side effects are possible with Minoxidil and the higher the percentage, the more likely they are to occur. For example, most women have unwanted facial hair growth if they use a solution stronger than 2%. You can read more about side effects here.
Subj: Brand name of Minokem lotion
Date: 1/30/2010
Pls tell me the brand name of Minokem lotion (solution)! I am trying to get that but I didnt find anywhere in pune.
Gauri
AskDocWeb: Minokem is a combination of minoxidil, tretinoin and azelaic acid. We have not seen it sold under any other brand name.
Subj: Hair loss since 19
Date: 1/31/2010
I have had hair loss since I was 19, now I’m 30. My symptoms are itchy scalp, thinning, shedding and irritation. My hair continues to grow excessively, except on my hairline where I have bold spots. Can I start using minoxydil?
Natasha
AskDocWeb: You don’t need a prescription for Minoxidil or anyone’s permission to get it. Minoxidil is sold over the counter. How well it might work is another matter. You should know that the most commonly reported side effects are scalp flaking and irritation and if you have that problem to begin with, this product may not be your best choice.
Subj: Headaches
Date: 2/6/2010
After using Minoxidil for a few months, I was getting low-keyed, gnawing, headaches and couldn’t nail down what was the cause. I stopped the minoxidil and after the drug was out of my system, the headaches subsided.
Michael
Subj: Propecia?
Date: 2/7/2010
What about propecia? or finasteride? i’ve heard they have more serious side effects.
Hayden
AskDocWeb: That is true and you can read about them here.
Subj: Shedding is continuing
Date: 2/8/2010
I have been using Rogaine now for 13 months, for what I believe is undiagnosed telogen effluvium and female pattern hair loss. I initially had what is commonly called the “dread shed”….hair falling out by the handful. After about 2 months, all shedding stopped and I thought I noticed a bit of regrowth. Since then (for like the last 8 months), my hair has been shedding as it was before I ever used the rogaine. My temples have filled in a bit, but overall, I would say my hair seems thinner than it was a year ago. Should I stop using Rogaine? If your shedding is continuing, is that a sign that the product isn’t working for you?
Melissa
AskDocWeb: It is difficult to determine if a product for hair loss is working or not until the amount of shedding is quantified. The average rate of normal hair loss is about 100 hairs per day. If you think you are losing much more hair than that then the Rogaine is probably not doing much good. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
