Subj: Neoxidil increased hair loss
Date: 4/13/2010
I’m a 16 year old male. A month ago I went to a dermatologist as I was experiencing hairloss at this age (genetic since my brother also started losing hair at the same age). The doctor prescribed 2% Neoxidil. I read it’s 5% for males. Is this going to effect in anyway? So far I have not seen any results. Hairloss is still present, in fact, more from the time I started using it.
Samuel
AskDocWeb: If you live in Belgium, Israel, Luxembourg, or Portugal, the active ingredient in Neoxidil is minoxidil. Other countries may have different formulations. Many people have reported going through a period of increased hair loss when they first start using minoxidil. For some this was a reason to quit using it. Several of those who continued using it reported that the increased hair loss stopped and was followed by an increase in growth. However, not everyone who continued using it saw an increase in growth. We are still looking for a good source of statistics on this.
Subj: Facial hair from minoxidil
Date: 4/14/2010
Please help me, I was using the 12.5% minoxidil prescribed to me by the Belgravia clinic in the UK because I had tension alopecia from braids that I wore for many years. They warned me about the possible side effects. I was on the treatment for 3 months but had to stop due to the excessive facial hair I was getting. I now use scissors to cut the facial hair on a daily basis. I am so depressed now. Will the hair fall out naturally or will I have to keep cutting this hair away for the rest of my life?
Miss D
AskDocWeb: It may take a few months but the facial hair will gradually stop growing. If you want to speed up that process then you might use a tube of Vaniqa.

Hi, my name is Omar, I’m 20 years old I’ve used minoxidil for 4 years now, but last summer I kinda increased the dose, and I noticed that my body hair became thicker n more dense, is that effect is reversible or not, if yes, what should I do! Thanks,
Omar
AskDocWeb: Although it may take some time the effect is reversible. According to the patient information for minoxidil once the drug is discontinued the extra hair growth is lost.

AskDocWeb: It is unusual for a 25 year old to be losing hair that fast. We suggest you consult with a dermatologist to find out what is causing the hair loss.

I had to take minoxidil for about 2 months and it caused extra hair growth on my body. I have stopped the medication. Can you tell me if the new hair growth on the body will go away and how long it will take?
Kat
AskDocWeb: Well there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the new hair growth on the body will go away. The bad news is that it may take up to six months to do that.

Subj: Betamethasone Topical Corticosteroid
Date: 5/1/2010
Hi, my doctor prescribed me 15drops of Betamethasone Topical Corticosteroid in the morning, and 15 drops of Minoxidil in the evening. how does it help?
Hadi
AskDocWeb: Topical corticosteroids such as Betamethasone are used for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses or skin disease. Since minoxidil is known to irritate the skin, it would seem likely that the Betamethasone is there to counteract that irritation. Please note that if these two are applied together, there is a moderately serious drug interaction possible between minoxidil and betamethasone with concerns about sodium retention and fluid retention.
Subj: Itchy scalp
Date: 5/1/2010
I have been using minoxidil 5% for the last 3 days and my scalp has become itchy so should I use or stop? Is it normal? How much quantity should I apply everyday?
Sukanya
AskDocWeb: Itching is listed as one of the common side effects that are possible with minoxidil. It is important that you read and follow the instructions that come with this product. The average dose of topical minoxidil is 1 milliliter applied two times a day but may be different for different patients.

AskDocWeb: Picking a treatment for hair loss is, in most cases, a matter of trial and error. This is why we are collecting comments, reviews and feedback about all these hair loss products, so you can see what works. Our current recommendation is a combination of Nisim NewHair Biofactors, a shampoo that fights hair loss and a supplement called Provillus.

Subj: Red cheeks
Date: 5/10/2010
Hi dear, I’ve used Minoxidil lotion for 7 DAYS and I’ve noticed some redness on my chicks and also reduced my sexual drive. So I stop it, because it made me so worried, after 2 months my sexual drive became normal but I still have some redness on my chicks. Is it gonna stay longer?
Adnan
AskDocWeb: How long it lasts depends on the cause. It may or may not be related to the minoxidil. Since the redness is still there after 2 months then you may want to check with a dermatologist.
Subj: No good result
Date: 5/9/2010
Sir, I am Jojo male 25 yrs old, I had been been using minoxidil 2% solution, but not get good result falling of hair is too much I’m so worry about this, sir is hair oil used ro any problom give me answer regards,
Jojo
AskDocWeb: Several kinds of oil have been reported to benefit those suffering from hair loss. Olive oil, coconut oil, Emu oil, Jojoba oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil, Moroccan oil, and even fish oil has been used with minoxidil. The problem is that there is no evidence to suggest these oils might help hair to grow. Caster oil is one of the few oils in nature that comes close to the chemical constituency of natural skin oil but it does not help grow hair. The only problem we have seen with using oil on the scalp involved ozonized olive oil. That caused hair loss at the site and hypersensitivity to contact. Other than that most oils are safe to use on the scalp. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
