Subj: Facial hair growth
Date: 5/11/2010
Hi I am a 62 yr. old female had been diagnosed with traces of androgentic alopecia…hair is thinning regardless of using 2%Minoxidil..can only use the 2% once a day because of irritation, it has stopped much shedding of hair, been using over 6 months now, do not see any new regrowth…should I by now? And also have just recently been seeing alot of fine hairs all over my face, will this go away or is the Minoxidil causing this. I do not get any product ever on my face. Have you heard of anyone else getting all these little fine but much facial hair and what do you recommend I do about it. If I stop the minioxidil my hair will continue to shed is that correct? However it is feeling thinner than ever… Thank you,
Sharon
AskDocWeb: You are correct, if you stop using the minoxidil you lose the benefit. However, you also lose the side effect of facial hair growth. Sometimes there just isn’t a good solution for women with hair loss. You might want to check the ingredients in your shampoo to make sure that none of them are causing hair loss, or just replace it with a shampoo that fights hair loss.

AskDocWeb: Yes, side effects are possible when using minoxidil. They are listed here.
Subj: High blood pressure
Date: 5/24/2010
I’m 28 years old. I started using Minoxidil 5% for a month. 3 days ago for the first time in my life I had very high blood presure 150/100 and immediately I went to the doctor and I thought that I will fall down immediately. It happened for the first time in my life and I know it was from a minoxodil. I was using 2 times a day applying for 1ml (morning and 1 ml during the night). Could you tell me from your experience, should I start continuing this product by applying only 1ml daily…? Can I have some serioous risk if I continus using it. I haven’t used for 2 days since I got high blood presure since I was transported to the hospital when I got high blood perssure that’s why I want you to give me some advaice what is the best solution for me to do now. Thanks,
Martin
AskDocWeb: The best solution for you is to let your doctor decide. Please note that the tablet form of Minoxidil is used to lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels.
Subj: Loniten
Date: 5/27/2010
Hi I want to buy Minoxidil (loniten), how can I buy this? where it will be available? please suggest me. Regards,

AskDocWeb: Like most products for hair loss, it takes a few months to find out if you are going to see results or not. Give it time.
Subj: Mintop solution
Date: 6/4/2010
is mintop solution helps in regrowth of hair?
Jagaish
AskDocWeb: It works for some people but you should find out what kind of hair loss you have before using it. In some cases, it can do more harm than good. Have your doctor or dermatologist determine if you have Alopecia Areata or Telogen Effluvium. If you do then this product may increase your hair loss.
Subj: Question about minoxidil
Date: 6/4/2010
I have been using Minoxidil for one and a half month, my hair is shedding a lot and I have been feeling the following symptoms: headache, nausea, depression, tiredness, loss of energy. I was working out, butt while using it, I felt so much exhausted I stopped using it. I have also felt I have low libido and numbness. I have lost almost half of my upper head hair. If I stop using it, my hair which have already shed wont come back. I am confused right now. should I continue using it for at least six months and just focus on cardio vascular exercise?
Ahmed
AskDocWeb: We think the decision to continue using it or not should be made by your doctor or a dermatologist. As mentioned in the above post, in some cases, it can do more harm than good.
Subj: Dry eyes
Date: 6/5/2010
Shortly after I started using the minoxidil, I began noticing extreme dryness of my eyes. Have had to use eye drops quite often & the blinking is very irritating. Could this be a result of the product? Dr has ruled out anything else.
Patty
AskDocWeb: It is not listed as one of the officially recognized side effects of minoxidil. Remember that it is possible to have something unrelated going on.
Subj: Itchy shedding
Date: 6/6/2010
I’m 20 years old and i started using Minox 5% about 3 months ago. During this phase, I reduced the dosage right after 1 month when my hair started growing rapidly. I continued the ‘reduced dosage’ for a month. A month after that my hair started to fall again, could it be due to irregular sleep patterns? I am applying the indicated amount right now. But now its starting to itch really bad. Sometimes my neck gets a little itchy too. Any comments?

AskDocWeb: Itching is one of the most common side effects of Minoxidil, the active ingredient in Minox. The product information for Minoxidil says that increased hair loss is rare but should be reported to your doctor if it occurs.
Subj: Drug interaction?
Date: 6/8/2010
my husband is using cernos jel and minoxidil lotion every day just I want to know if there is any drug interaction. Thanks,
Jain
AskDocWeb: Cernos gel, also called AndroGel (topical testosterone) has not been reported to interact with any minoxidil product. However, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. Always tell your doctor what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
Subj: Mintop
Date: 6/9/2010
My name is Vinay, am from Banglore, my age is 24, I have got the problem of dandruff & am facing a lot of hair loss in front more, could you help me out which mintop to use & how to use it, & mintop have any side effect on dandruff problems, plz help me…
Vinay
AskDocWeb: Mintop comes in several different strengths. The stronger the solution, the more chance you have of increasing the dandruff problem and getting other side effects. We don’t recommend anything over 5% because of reports of increased growth of unwanted body hair. If you can consult with a dermatologist that would be the safest way to deal with your hair and scalp problems. The reason for this is that Mintop can make some types of hair loss problems worse.
Subj: Not happy with results
Date: 6/10/2010
Hey guys, wish I would’ve read this a year ago when I started to use minoxidil. Here’s my story… I started using minoxidil after Hair Clb (which I paid an outrageous amount – could’ve had a nose job instead) for a year subscription. My year is almost up and I am not happy with the results and here’s why… It’s for life.
At first, I didn’t think that would be a problem but now, I can’t wait to get off it!! It dries up the hair and they look frizzier since 50% of it fell of and hair grew back. It was nicer looking before. It’s a pain to have to put it on every 12 hours and IT DOES NOT STOP HAIR LOSS. It only regrows hair to only scare you at the end because you know once you stop it’s coming off. It’s frustrating to see my hair shedding knowing I paid so much for this dumb program not to work. I strongly recommend people suffering from this to look into only natural remedies or hormonal disorders for this problem. That’s my point of view, or how I would have done it diffrently.
I have a question. Can I stop using minoxidil cold turkey or should I gradually stop using the treatment? Also, for the hairs that fall off after treatment, will the hairs grow back finer or the same texture? Thanks for your input.
Amy
AskDocWeb: Other than the loss of the hair that this product caused to grow, there is nothing in the product literature for topical minoxidil that says you can’t just stop using it or have to gradually stop using the treatment. There is no cold turkey because there are no withdrawal effects.
Subj: Hair fall again
Date: 6/15/2010
Hi I am 26 year old male. my (hair) has been falling too much from last two years. I have been consulted wid doc’. Initially I used herbal hairloss product. It works but again start to fall. Last 4 months I am using minoxidill 2% then 4% as/prescribed by doc’ but hair is falling 2 much when I appling minoxidill. Plz help me…
Tanuj
AskDocWeb: Has your doctor told you what kind of hair loss you have or the cause of your hair fall? Minoxidil does not work for every kind of hair loss and can even make some kinds worse. You might check your shampoo to make sure none of the ingredients are contributing to the problem. Just do a search on the name of the ingredient along with the words “hair loss” in quotes to see if that ingredient has caused anyone else any problems. You may also want to get a shampoo that fights hair loss, something like Nisim NewHair Biofactors. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
