Hi, am using minoxidil 10% from past 5months my age is 26 and am also having FINPECIA tablet everyday… I have seen improvements am getting lot of small small hairs on my head…will it become thick in the future or it will fall again…

Tejesh

AskDocWeb: With continued use, your hair is likely to get thicker but there is no way to know how thick because everyone responds a little different. The patient information for both of these drugs says that when the product is discontinued, the hair that the product caused to grow will fall out within months. After that period of increased hair loss the rate of loss returns to what it was before using the product. Hopefully you are aware of the possible side effects of Minoxidil and Propecia. The stronger Minoxidil (10% and above) has been reported to cause the growth of unwanted body hair.

Subj: Skin under eyes darker
Date: 6/19/2010
I am 22 years old b.tech student and I started losing hair since I was 19. I was scared that I was going to become like one of those bald guys whom I used to laugh about. but it seemed I would become one soon, but after considerable loss of hair for 2 years I read about mintop forte. I started using it and I am still using it my skin started looking dull, little bit dark and rugged like very odd compared to rest of my body and also the skin under my eyes is darker, I wanted to ask does it have an effect on face muscles, does this solution aids aging quicker?

Ajay

AskDocWeb: The active ingredient in Mintop Forte is Minoxidil. There are anecdotal reports of minoxidil causing eye bags, dark under eye circles, puffy eyes and wrinkles around the eyes but these went away when the minoxidil was discontinued. There are no reports of Minoxidil having any affect on facial muscles. If it ages the skin, the manufacturer makes no mention of it.

Subj: Getting the best results
Date: 6/20/2010
I know results may vary but I think I may be getting the best results of all (if they keep up). I am 24 and I have been using it for slightly less than a week now and the little hairs are not as brittle and as easy to pull out and while shampooing i pulled a couple out by mistake like usual but what was unusual about it was OUCH! That hurt! Before it was like nothing to pull these fine threads from my scalp but now they are regaining their sensation. They are still very thin but they seem to be growing longer than before because they managed to survive longer, giving me a poodle like effect at the top of my scalp. I will bookmark this page and update on my progress since I surprisingly don’t see many people doing the same. I have a receding hairline that makes me look sexy but the thinning hair on top doesn’t add this same well aged appearance so that is why I am trying this product. I bought the %5 topical liquid that has the dropper. It was on sale, and I think this is because everyone is buying the foam now.

Have their been any reports of negative side effects in men using Rogaine. Such as impotence, decreased semen, etc.?

Aaron

AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic, there is a rare side effect of decreased sexual ability or desire when too much is absorbed through the skin. If this happen to you, you may also experience:

  • chest pain
  • blurred vision or other changes in vision
  • fast or irregular heartbeat
  • difficulty breathing
  • fainting
  • lightheadedness
  • flushing
  • rapid weight gain
  • headache
  • numbness or tingling of hands, feet, or face
  • swelling of face, hands, feet, or lower legs

If you notice any of the above or other side effects that concern you, check with your doctor.

Subj: Which percent should I choose?
Date: 6/22/2010
I am Vengatesh 24 years old, I have hairfall problem, which makes me inferiority complex. Can I use minoxidil? Which percent should I choose 2%, 5% or 10%? Will it cause any side effects? Because somebody telling it will cause sexual disorder…reply me sir.

Vengatesh

AskDocWeb: In the U.S.A. women use 2% and men use 5%. Stronger percentages are not recommended because of reports about the growth of unwanted body hair.

Subj: Mintop
Date: 6/24/2010
U said that Minoxidil 5% should be used for 48 weeks… does that mean that after 48 weeks the hair that has grown due to Minoxidil would fall?… Also what is the maximum life time for teh hair regrown through Mintop?

Johny

AskDocWeb: Sorry Johny, but we didn’t say that. Comments about “48 weeks” come from a quote from the United States Food and Drug Administration. It is from their publication, Drug Facts from the FDA. In that publication they say, “Hair regrowth has not been shown to last longer than 48 weeks of continuous treatment in large clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution 5% for men.” After discontinuing the product, the rate at which hair is lost increases until the patient loses all the hair that they would have lost if they had not used the product. This occurs in the 12 months after stopping the use of Minoxidil. After that the rate of hair loss returns to what it was before taking the product. This is true for Propecia and other products for hair loss.

Subj: After stopping minoxidil
Date: 6/24/2010
i m 20 yrs and I am using minoxidil 5% solution to stop my hair fall. I do not catch the idea about side effect of minoxidil after stopage of its use. I listen hair fall continues after stopping use of minoxidil. i need suggestion for the problem after i stop the minoxidil.

Pramosh

AskDocWeb: There may not be any way to avoid a period of increased hair loss after stopping minoxidil. However, you might be able to minimize it by using a shampoo that supports the healthy growth of hair. The best one we have found so far is Nisim NewHair Biofactors.

Subj: Dr.Reddy’s Lab
Date: 7/4/2010
Sir, I am Uttaran (Calcutta, age : 27+), I am having thin hair type men baldness (Heredity), I am loosing my hairs for 4 years and recently I am using Mintop forty 5% (Dr.Reddy’s Lab) once/day at night for 15 days, but for last 2 to 3 days I am losing 15 to 20 hairs at the time of washing the hair by shampoo, so should I stop using the Mintop Forty?? Before applying the montop forty I used to wash my hair by shampoo. Pls send me the suggestion through mail in my mail id.

Uttaran

AskDocWeb: Normally a person loses about 100 hairs each day so losing 15 or 20 hairs while shampooing is not unusual. Remember that the instructions for minoxidil (the active ingredient in Mintop) says to apply it to a dry scalp for best results.

Subj: Easily bruised

Subj: Excessive hair loss and facial hair growth
Date: 7/5/2010
Hello, I’m a 21 years old female, I’ve been using minoxidil 2% for about 2 months and experiencing excessive hair loss especially in my front scalp as well as facial hair growth recently. I’ve been losing my hair several years ago and tried minoxidil hoping it would work. I’m so depressed now please advise concerning hair loss and undesirable hair growth. Would the loss soon stop? And would I then lose the facial hair? Thanks,

Miss R

AskDocWeb: It is unfortunate that you have unwanted facial hair growth as well as increased hair loss. Minoxidil doesn’t work for everyone.

Subj: Receding hairline?
Date: 7/6/2010
Sir, I am a 22 male, I took propecia before and it stopped my hair loss, but the hair in my frontal hairline remain the same, I wonder if Minoxidil can help my receding hairline?

Yves_yew

AskDocWeb: There is a chance it could help. According to an article in the Dermatology Times (2003), 51% of men using 5% minoxidil and 42% of those using 2% minoxidil showed visible improvements in the frontal scalp regions.

Subj: Shedding is scary
Date: 7/10/2010
Hi, I have been applying 5% minoxidil for 1 month. The amount of shedding that is taking place is horrendous. It’s scary and very annoying. Is this going to ever stop?

Ali

AskDocWeb: The manufacturer says that users may experience an initial period of increased hair loss and that if it lasts more than 2 weeks, check with your doctor.

Subj: Available brand of minoxidil?
Date: 7/14/2010
I am male here in Saudi Arabia using hot water during shower and I noticed in the last few months the thinnning of my hair. What can you suggest to use minoxidil 2% or 5%. Is there available brand of minoxidil here in Saudi Arabia. Thanks.

Sadik

AskDocWeb: In the USA men use the 5% and women use 2% minoxidil. If you talk to your local pharmacist they will be able to tell you what is available in your country.

Subj: No improvement
Date: 7/19/2010
I have been using Mintop 5% for almost 18 months now and have not seen considerable improvement. What do you suggest I should do?

Sam
AskDocWeb: Mintop does not work for everyone. If we didn’t see results in the first 6 months, we would have stopped using it. You might take a look at Nisim NewHair Biofactors. It’s a shampoo specially designed to help those who suffer with hair loss. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
