Subj: Shedding phase
Date: 7/20/2010
Hi, I am 19 and I want to start using minoxidil but am worried about the shedding phase. Is the shedding phase less likely to occur since I am young and I am catching my hair loss early? Also, exactly how noticeable will the shedding be? Thanks.
Reed
AskDocWeb: The manufacturer doesn’t say if the shedding is more likely or not for any particular age group, just that it is possible. According to the feedback, how noticeable it is varies considerably from one person to the next. Most people don’t have any shedding.
Subj: No results

I’ve been on meridia for 10 days and have not lost anything. I’m on 10 mg. What is going on???? I would be so happy if I lost 2 lbs but nothing. This is so frustrating!
Jennie
AskDocWeb: If you aren’t getting any results then it is time to check back with your doctor.
Subj: If you stop using it
Date: 7/23/2010
Hi, My name is Madhu 26 yrs. I am using Minoxidal 5 % from last 3 months and i can see positive results. I got a feedback from my friend who has used it in the past mentions you will lose lot of hair if you stop using it. My Que is? Is this true?
Madhuchandra
AskDocWeb: While it is true that there is an increase in hair loss after discontinuing, the hair that you lose is what you would have lost if you had not used the product. That increased shedding lasts for few months and then the rate at which you lose hair returns to normal. If you want to keep the benefits you have to continue using the product.
Subj: More hair loss after stopping
Date: 7/23/2010
I used mintop for a month and my hair fell much more than b4…i stopped it a week back but still its not stopping…though it has reduced….what do i do..any other option for my hair if I’ve alopecia…plz respond.
Mukta
AskDocWeb: It can take a few months for your hair loss to return to normal after stopping Mintop. If you don’t want to wait for the increased hair loss to stop, you could try a shampoo to fight hair loss.
Subj: Minitop 10?
Date: 7/25/2010
I am 25 years having dandruff & hairloss for more than 5 years. I tried lot of shampoo & oils without doctors advive no use. Now I can see bald patch at crown. For more than 1 year I am taking treatment from dermotologist. I am using gentin forte capsule & mitop 10 with cream ( tretion )can my sexual life damaged of using minitop 10?. Will dandruff increase due to minitop. When will I notice new hair in bald patches.
Sundar
AskDocWeb: According to the Mayo Clinic if too much of the 5% minoxidil is absorbed through the skin it can result in decrease in sexual ability or desire. Your Mintop 10 is twice as strong and more likely to produce side effects. Dandruff (scalp flaking) is the common side effect of this product. It may take from three to nine months to tell if it is working and not everyone sees a benefit.
Subj: Aminexil?
Date: 8/2/2010
Hi, I have started using Aminexil for several weeks before I realized I am pregnant. Will this affect the baby at all? Will it be ok to continue use of Aminexil throughout the pregnancy?
Sheila
AskDocWeb: Since the FDA has not approved the use of Aminexil in the United States, it is unknown what side effects for the drug may exist. According to the FDA, there is a lack of testing with Aminexil so there is no way to know what affect it may have on pregnancy. As of 2009, the FDA refused UPS shipments containing Dercos’ Aminexil hair loss treatment for two reasons: One, it was misbranded—the product was not on a required FDA listing–and two, there was no “new drug approval” application made prior to the shipments arrival in the United States.

Subj: Planning to have kids
Date: 8/10/2010
Hi, I am a female and 25 years of age. my problem is I have thin and sparse hair. My hair has always been thin but as I grow older my hair seems less and less. I think it is genetic because my mom had the same problem. She had thining hair with age and at 50 her hair was so sparse she had nearly no hair left. I dont use any hair treatments, just regular shampoo and conditioner. I want to know if rogaine for women is the right treatment for me. I am married and am planning to have kids in the near future. I was also wondering that as you should discontinue use of rogaine when pregnant so what side effects will I have if I dont use rogaine while am pregnant and start using it after child birth. I also want to know if it’s safe to use rogaine while feeding the baby. If rogaine is not the way to go can you recommend any other hair treatment product which is appropriate for my situation. Thanks very much.
Sammy
AskDocWeb: Currently we do not have a recommendation for a hair loss product that can be used during pregnancy. The topical Minoxidil solution (Rogaine) has not been studied in pregnant women. Before using this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you plan on becoming pregnant. It is not known whether topical Minoxidil passes into breast milk or not. Until adequate studies are conducted products containing minoxidil are not recommended during breast-feeding, because it may cause problems in nursing babies. Of course if you aren’t breast-feeding after giving birth this isn’t an issue. Good luck with the family.
Subj: Steroids and washing hair
Date: 8/13/2010
I am currently taking dexamethasone, aldactone and other vitamins and supplements to rebalance my hormones. I was diagnosed with hyperadrenalism and androgenetic alopecia as I have thinning everywhere and am developing a very visible wide part. I am female and started rogain mens 5 percent foam. I am currently just applying to my huge part because the amount that calls for to be used is not that much and makes my hair very sticky. I dot know if my hair is beyond repair. I am hoping to get off the steroid soon and I don’t know if I will have to stay on aldactone forever. I have noticed even more shedding already after 8 days of use twice a day. I am worried about unwanted hair growth on my face. I only have been able to wash my hair once a week as I get a lot of hair coming out always. Is that because of only washing once a week? Will stopping the steroid help my situation? Is washing once a week ok if I can stand it using rogaine foam? Help.
CC
AskDocWeb: Research has proven that anabolic steroids increases the chance of hair loss in both men and women. While this hair loss may be reversible, if you are genetically prone to hair loss it may also be permanent. If you shampoo daily the number hairs lost will be about the same each day. If you shampoo once a week there will be fewer hairs on the days you do not shampoo but then a lot more on the day of the shampoo. That is to be expected. Remember that washing removes oils and dries the hair out. Certain hair types and textures only require washing once a week where those with oily hair may have to wash it daily.
Subj: Dark circles under eyes
Date: 8/13/2010
I’ve used minox for about 2 months and have noticed the dark circles under my eyes, this I’m sure about. Also my skin seems to have loosened, not only in my face but my body. Is this paranoia? If not will these symptoms disappear? How long?
Ido
AskDocWeb: Dark circles under the eyes is not officially recognized as a side effect of minoxidil. However, you are not being paranoid because there are others reporting the same experience. Not enough is known about this effect to tell how long it might last.

Subj: Denatured Spirit/alcohol?
Date: 8/15/2010
Dear Minoxidil 5% which i am using also contains 0.6ml Denatured Spirit. So Dear Respective does this Ingrdient has any side effects, and all minoxidil products in markets contains this ingredient (Denatured Spirit) Or Not? I Am Waiting For Your Replay Thanks Alot.
Johny
AskDocWeb: Depending on which minoxidil product you are using it contains from 30% to 60% alcohol. This is likely to be the main cause of dandruff, which is a common side effect of minoxidil.
Subj: Alcohol in minoxidil
Date: 8/16/2010
Dear Respective I AM Using Minoxidil Since 1 and Half Years In Our Country There Are Two Types Of Minoxidil Selling Both Are In 5% But The Difference Is That In One Product The Inactive Ingridents Are (Alcohol 0.6ml & Propylene Glycol 0.2ml) And Another Product Inactive Ingredient Is Just (Denatured Spirit 0.6ml) SO I Want To Know THat Which Product Will Be More Effective With Above Inactive Ingredients. Please Replay Me WIth My Complete Answer. Thanks Alot.
Akshay
AskDocWeb: An inactive ingredient is one that produces no effect. That means that the type of alcohol used in minoxidil makes no difference in the effectiveness of those products. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
