Subj: Forehead?
Date: 1/4/2011
Why is minoxidil used only on crown and not hair line? Will your forehead grow hair?

Michael

AskDocWeb: During the clinical trials for minoxidil it was not found to be effective in that area. One of the listed side effects is the growth of unwanted facial hair in a small percentage of users.

Subj: Other medications with minoxidil?
Date: 1/7/2011
I’m 21 years old, I have a full hair on my head but it is thinning from the frontal side, I went to a doctor who advised me with minoxidil 5% in a gel form for 6 months use. He said I can stop it after the six months but gradually. I’m asking you can I stop using it gradually after these months without having hair loss again or can I stop using it after these months while using any other medication to stop hair loss after stop using minoxidil?

Mohammed

AskDocWeb: Whether or not you follow your doctor’s advice is your choice. If you are considering using another medication, you should talk to your doctor about how that particular medication might interact with minoxidil.

Subj: Mintop Forte 5%
Date: 1/13/2011
I was applying mintop forte 5% on my unaffected area that is my forehead for 7 months. After stopping mintop forte will my hair remain the same as I am not having alopecia nor heriditary disorder?

Vikram

AskDocWeb: Everything we have read about Mintop Forte 5% indicates that the new hair will fall out over a period of several months once the product is discontinued.

Subj: Minoxidil?
Date: 1/16/2011
I am 31 years and losing hairs last more than 6 years and my hair are getting thinner. Last 5 month I am using some homeopathic medicine and also taking saw Palmetto but still am losing hair. Should I go for minoxidil? Will it work for people who are losing hair more then 5 years? Will it active the dead hair follicles?

Rama

AskDocWeb: As long as you have “some” hair growing there is still a chance it will work. Obviously you can’t tell the difference between follicles that are dead and those that are just dormant so you just have to try it and see what happens.

Subj: Traction Alopecia and Minoxidil
Date: 1/16/2011
Thanks for the platform. If Minoxidl is used to recover hair lose due to Traction Alopecia and the cause of traction has been identified and stoped, stop my tight braid, will this be a permanent cure and will not require application of Minoxidl forever?

Hen

AskDocWeb: Forever is too long a time to say anything with certainty. If you stop using tight braids then you are removing the cause of your hair loss and it may return on its own, even without treatment. Of course the Minoxidil may also speed up the regrowth process.

Subj: Danger to my wife?
Date: 1/17/2011
Using Minoxidil 5mg. Have a pregnant wife. Any precautions recommended i.e. don’t share pillows, brushes. Not sure of danger from my minoxidil hands, scalp to my wife.

Roger

AskDocWeb: We have seen nothing that would indicate a danger to the partner of a Minoxidil user. However, you wife may not be too happy with you if you don’t take the time for it to dry completely before going to bed. Minoxidil can stain pillows and other bed linen if the hair or scalp is not fully dry before bedtime. It could also stain hats, hoods, scarves, and other clothing.

Subj: Fungal infection
Date: 1/22/2011
I am male 33 I have heavy hair loss past 3 year I use so many medical but no result but after 2 year I use ketokonazole shampoo two time a week I have fungal infection after I use ketokonazole good result my scalp dryness incth goon but no relife hair loss is continue can i try minoxidil pls help me thankoyou.

Nazir

AskDocWeb: Minoxidil is sold over-the-counter so you don’t need a prescription to try it. However, if you are currently being treated for a fungal infection on the scalp, check with your doctor first. Minoxidil can irritate a fungal infection on the scalp and make it worse.

Subj: Questions about minoxidil usage
Date: 1/24/2011
Hi, I’m 19yr old female, I losing 10-20 hairs everyday and I dont have any baldness history in my family. (previously I dunno that it’s fine losing 10 – 20 hairs/day) so I going to see the dermatologist and she tell me to start using minoxidil 5% with other medicine:

– R/Flucinolon acctonide 0,025%

– m.f gel 30g

– S.scalp gel – R/minoxidil 5%

– Clobetasol propionate 0,0125%

– m.f solution 30 ml

– S.Hair grow tonic

– M Erazol

– medicated shampoo

Well, after I use it for over 1 month my hair shedding (50-100), I experienced nausea & dizziness. I stopped using it, it’s been a week after that, but the shedding continues and I still have nausea and dizziness, I wanted to ask,

1. how long the shedding process will stop and can my real hair that falling out because of it can grow back without using minoxidil?

2. how long the nausea and dizziness that I experienced can be stopped?

3. whether I will experience, grow unwanted hair after stop using minoxidil like most people say? sorry for asking so many questions, but please help.

Lyla

AskDocWeb: That is a surprising number of products used to treat what sounds like normal hair loss. It makes us wonder about the competence and integrity of that dermatologist. Hopefully you are not buying those products from the dermatologist. If nausea is experienced from the use of minoxidil, which is uncommon, that should stop within a day or so of discontinuing. It is unlikely that you will have unwanted hair growth after the use of minoxidil is discontinued. However, dizziness is listed as a severe side effect that should be reported to your doctor.

Subj: Tiny hairs on forehead
Date: 1/25/2011
This is a hard question for a doctor I think. I have tiny hairs infront of my forehead (it never grow longer). If i use minoxidil on it, Will the hair growth longer? If I stop using minoxidil, what happen to my tiny hairs? Loss? that sounds scary..

Math

AskDocWeb: Minoxidil has been known to stimulate the growth of hair anywhere it is applied on the body. That is one of the reasons why you need to be careful when applying it. And of course when you stop using it your hair growth returns to normal over the following few months. In some cases that means the loss of hair and in others the diameter of the hair shafts are reduced to what they were before using minoxidil.

Subj: Monoxidil 5% and unwanted body hair
Date: 1/26/2011
I am 20 years old girl I’ve used monoxidil 5% for one and half month and I recognize facial hair and hair all over the body then I’ve stopped using it, I am really depressed but my question is what is better ?? to use something to remove that hair or wait until it go itself??? or to use medicine to remove hair but iam scared to try new medicine again.

Soha

AskDocWeb: Other women have also reported the growth of unwanted body hair from using Minoxidil 5%. That is why only the 2% minoxidil is recommended for women in the USA. How you get rid of the unwanted body hair depends on how much it bothers you. Understand that if left alone, the hair may take several months to disappear. You may be able to just bleach the hair so that it is less visible. Shaving can be done quickly with a good quality shaving gel and razor. Using a moisturizer after shaving helps to prevent the skin from drying out.

Subj: Dandruff and decreased libido
Date: 1/29/2011

John1

AskDocWeb: It sounds like minoxidil caused too much dandruff and finasteride caused and unacceptable decrease in libido. If you haven’t already done so, we suggest you consult with a dermatologist to find out why you are losing hair.

Subj: Low blood pressure

Date: 2/6/2011
sir iam using mintop 10 but after using for around 5 days i am having severe headache. though I am not suffering from any thing dont you think that it is related with mintop10. plz reply

Rakesh

AskDocWeb: It is possible because headaches are listed as a possible side effects of minoxidil, one that should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible.

Subj: What strength?
Date: 2/10/2011
hi i want to start on mino but i dont know what streinth to get should i go for the higest one becouse its most effective like dr lee product or the standerd 5 percent

Adele

AskDocWeb: In the USA the 2% strength is recommended for women and the 5% solution is recommended for men. Using anything stronger may produce the growth of unwanted body hair and increases the likelihood of side effects.

Subj: Livon hair gain tonic
Date: 2/10/2011
Thanks for addressing the queries of all. I am facing hairfall from last 4 years. Initially started Homeopathic medicine which did not helped me for long. Then started using Livon hair gain tonic and end up losing more hair. Any idea whether they have Minoxidil content in it? Recently I had started using Mintop forte(1 ml each: twice a day) & biotin tablets from 3 days. I am getting cold hand & feet which I never used to feel earlier.

Sam

AskDocWeb: The ingredients in Livon hair gain tonic seem to be a secret, and that is cause for concern. Those who have allergies will have no way of knowing how the product might effect them. The advertising for Livon hair gain tonic claim results in 15 days and that is a serious concern. Legitimate products for hair loss take months to work.

The cold hands and feet could be a developing condition. Those are symptoms of goiter, which can also cause hair loss. Have you had a physical lately?
