Epileptic seizures
Date: 2/21/2012
I am sorry for my poor English. I am a epileptic person of 24yrs. I was settled by drugs. Since more than two years I had no seizure. I started use of mintop 10 1.5 months ago and I have three major seziures. Even after increasing the doses and precautions as directed by my doctor. I thought on every aspect or reason but nothing new except use of Mintop.

Amit

AskDocWeb: The active ingredient in Mintop is minoxidil so that is where to look to find out about side effects. The product information for minoxidil includes a warning for patients to tell their doctor if they have epilepsy or other seizure disorder before using minoxidil. It appears that there is some concern about minoxidil decreasing the seizure threshold.

Unwanted facial hair
Date: 2/25/2012
I have been using rogaine 5% twice a day along with biotin capsule 5000mcg once a day for a month now! Now I’m noticing facial hair above my lip, my jawline and on my forehead. My dermatologists said to stop the rogaine and only take my biotin! I hate this facial hair, but I do believe it was slowly going to help! Now I probably will lose my hair again.

Not all patients will encounter these but if you do, contact your doctor because they may indicate a more serious problem that might require treatment.

Minoxidil for beard?
Date: 3/8/2012

AskDocWeb: Minoxidil is FDA approved for use ONLY on the scalp. Using it on any other part of the body is considered “off label” use and is not recommended.

Rare allergic reaction
Date: 3/12/2012
I have just recently started using minoxidil for female patent baldness. I lasted just a week before I developed bulbouse swelling in another area of my body. It was quite scarey how fast these growths appeared. I stopped using the minoxidil and within 24 hours the swellings started to subside.

I have since been online researching this problem and apparently it is a rare allergic reaction (which I thought would have happened immediately and not after a weeks treatment). I was advised by my doctor before starting treatment, that minoxidil was pretty safe for me to use and she almost laughed at my concern for side effects. Well I shant bother visiting that doctor again.

Minoxidil is fine in alot of cases but be warned if you have a reaction it could be fast and scarey (so scarey that being a balding woman is less of a stress). Try a small amount for a trial period first or you will waste money like me.

Hopeless case

AskDocWeb: Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Consumers need to know about this possible side effect. In some cases the effects of the medication take time to build up to a point where it triggers a reaction. Because most people have no reaction there is a tendency to have a casual attitude toward the side effects that is not always warranted.

AskDocWeb: The higher dosage of minoxidil is more likely to produce side effects. These may include changes in hair texture, change in hair color, scalp flaking (dandruff), itching and irritation. Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following rare side effects occur:

  • acne at the site of application
  • breast tenderness
  • burning of scalp
  • dizziness
  • headache
  • increase in size or darkness of fine body hair
  • increased hair loss
  • inflammation or soreness at root of hair
  • rash
  • reddened skin
  • upset stomach
  • vomiting

In rare cases where too much Minoxidil is being absorbed through the skin you may experience:

  • blurred vision or other changes in vision
  • chest pain
  • decrease in sexual ability or desire
  • difficulty breathing
  • fainting
  • fast or irregular heartbeat
  • flushing
  • headache
  • lightheadedness
  • numbness or tingling of hands, feet, or face
  • rapid weight gain
  • swelling of face, hands, feet, or lower legs

If you experience any of the above side effects call your doctor immediately.

One of the biggest problems with using the higher dosages is the growth of unwanted body hair.

Dandruff and hairfall
Date: 3/19/2012
Dear sir, I’m suffering from a very large quantity of dandruff, and also experiencing a large hairfall, now I want to use mintop, can it work for me?

Dhruv

AskDocWeb: Dandruff or scalp flaking is one of the most common side effects of Mintop. If you already have this symptom then using Mintop may make the condition worse. Please discuss this with your doctor or a dermatologist. There is a possibility that whatever is causing your dandruff may also be causing the loss of hair. With the help of your doctor you may be able to solve both problems with the same treatment.
