Increased facial hair
Date: 5/25/2012
Hi, I’ve been using minoxidil 5% for almost a year now and have noticed increased facial hair in the last couple of months. I am thinking about changing to the 2% minoxidil dose and getting laser removal treatment. Do you think this would be effective in removing the increased facial hair?
Humaira
AskDocWeb: Laser hair removal is most effective for people who have light skin and dark hair. Although it effectively slows hair growth, it doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. Typically several laser hair removal treatments are required to provide an extended hair-free period. Periodic maintenance treatments might be needed as well, especially if the stimulating effect of the high dose minoxidil is continued.

Date: 5/31/2012
Hi, I am Rahul, 20yrs old, male, I am from india. My problem is that my hair has become very thin and I have lost many hair. Is there any way how I can regain back my hair and reduce further hair loss. Can I use 5% minoxidil. Pls help me. I am too depressed for my hair thinning problem…
Rahul
AskDocWeb: There are several possible causes for hair thinning and a successful treatment depends on finding the correct cause. Getting a medical examination may reveal health problems that if left untreated might cause continuous hair loss as well as other problems.
Small hairs
Date: 6/2/2012
Hi AskDocWeb, I have used minoxidil 5% of company Tricosilk Max for 3-4months. I have absorbed some small(compared to remaining hair) hair growth on my head. But, this small hair also falling while i am doing head bath. Can you please tell me whether this small hair is grown due to applying of Minoxidil or is it a regular hair?
Syed
AskDocWeb: When Minoxidil starts working the first hairs to grow are typically very fine (small diameter shaft) and light in color. If it continues to work the hairs thicken and the color gradually changes to your natural hair color.

My hair got rough
Date: 6/13/2012

My mom said that my hair got rough and so i stopped using tugain. now say after 1 year 6 months, my hair is thinning and i started using minoxidil 5%w/v. can i expect a regrowth in my hair?
Spandana
AskDocWeb: Increasing the dosage strength from 2% to 5% also increases the risk of side effects both in number and severity. One of the possible side effects of minoxidil is that it may change the texture of your hair as you found out. Although the stronger solution may stimulate more hair growth it is also more likely to affect hair texture. Changes in hair texture have been described as “curlier” “courser” “hair like straw” as well as making the hair more difficult to style.
Should I tapper off minoxidil?
Date: 6/15/2012
I have been using 5% minoxidil for a receding hairline for about two months. I had heard that it sometimes helped with that region, but it is too much of a pain to remember to use. Since minoxidil is a vasodiolator, is it harmful to stop immediately, or should I tapper off?
Frank
AskDocWeb: The manufacturer does not indicate any need to taper off usage of the topical form of minoxidil.
Applying minoxidil
Date: 6/17/2012
I should use it how many times a week? And for how long I should keep it after applying in my hair?
Fahim
AskDocWeb: The directions for minoxidil say to apply it twice a day. For best results leave minoxidil on the scalp all day before the next application. However, since most of the absorption occurs within the first 1 hour the manufacturer recommends waiting from 1½ hour to 2 hours before swimming, blow drying, or shampooing your hair after applying minoxidil.
Stephacocol fail ileitis?
Date: 6/17/2012
I am 69 and my hair has fallen out around my hairline rather badly, this was due to an infection called stephacocol fail ileitis can I use minoxidil, please help me
PatGold
AskDocWeb: Staphylococcus is a staph infection that is seen in the skin and upper respiratory tract. When Staph is present in the scalp, it may cause conditions such as folliculitis, furncles or carbunkles. Folliculitis can appear as small, white headed pimples around the hair follicle. If not treated this may progress to more inflamed furncles and ultimately, if the infection does not clear, it becomes a carbuncle or boil. Whether or not you will be able to grow hair depends on the severity of the infection. If your scalp is permanently scarred then hair will not be able to grow back no matter what you use to treat it.
Ileitis means inflammation of the ileum which is the third part of the small intestine, which is commonly referred to as Crohn’s disease. Hair loss is not known to be associated with Crohn’s disease.
