Actual reason for hair loss
9/13/2012
I started using mintop 5% from past 1 and half month, in the beginning I saw lot of hairfall but later I see small hair re-growth(just started). I am not bald, but my hair started thinning because of very poor nutrition, diet problem, scalp damage due to heat, I didnt eat properly for few months, used to use salt and very hot water for headbath, used to eat lot of spicy foods, never used to drunk more than 2 -4 glasses of water daily. Now I am trying to improve my lifestyle by changing all these and also using mintop. So, I want to know if I can stop using mintop 5 % after 6months – 1 year when I get really good hair and maintain proper diet/nutrition to maintain the hair as I am not having any hereditary or any other problem. if so, how can the hair be maintained .. if not how can I know what was the actual reason for my hair being so thin and in tunr shows my scalp.

AskDocWeb: If your hair loss was caused by poor nutrition then correcting that should be enough to normalize you hair growth without the Mintop. However, using Mintop for the first 6 month should help get your hair started growing again.

Hair fall
9/14/2012
Hello sir, I’m 25 male, I have experienced a lottttttttttttt of hair fall recently! I’m using 2% minoxidil, for a month now! Should I switch to 10%?

Dinesh

AskDocWeb: That depends on what is causing your hair loss. Have you ruled out health issues such as thyroid problems? For a small percentage of patients minoxidil may make hair fall worse. Also it is a well known fact that minoxidil may cause a temporary increase in hair loss prior to regrowth. This is one of the reasons why it is a good idea to work with a dermatologist.

Questions about minoxidil
9/14/2012
HI, i m 24, my hair started falling after my fathers death( may be due to the stress) first of thx for this review, but i m abt to start using minoxidil, I just want to know that if after i stop using it the hair it regrew or made healthier will fall off then whats the use of using it if it doesnt have long term consistent effect, is minoxidil just a temporary solution where u have to keep on applying it for the rest of your life if you wanna see hair on ur scalp?

And my other qs is that i will eat finasteride and biotin 6mg wid it. Is it ok to eat these tablets wid it, coz my doc said to eat finasteride and apply minioxdil, i m thinking of eating biotin wid it as well, thx in advance.

Zerk

AskDocWeb: It is helpful to make a distinction between a treatment and a cure. Products used for hair loss “treat” the problem but they do not “cure” it. Currently there is no cure for hair loss. The treatments are temporary solutions that have to be used continuously in order to keep the hair that they cause to grow. If you stop using the treatment you lose that hair.

Finasteride, minoxidil, and biotin are often used together as a combination treatment for hair loss and has proven successful for many men. Good luck.

Oil with hair 4 U?
9/15/2012
I use hair 4 u 2% sshould I use oil after it?

Parakh

AskDocWeb: There are numerous claims that oil can help grow hair. Proponents recommend several kinds including coconut oil, emu Oil, castor oil, rosemary oil, and olive oil. While we haven’t seen convincing clinical evidence that it works, in most cases it will do no harm. One exception to that is peppermint oil. If used in concentrated form peppermint oil can cause lung injuries, muscle tremors and brain damage.

Jamila

AskDocWeb: It’s important to consult with your doctor before using any hair loss treatment to make sure that you don’t have a medical issue that might need treatment.

The 2% solution is approved as safe and effective for women by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. However, the stronger solutions of 5% and up have been reported to cause the growth of unwanted facial and body hair.

You can buy Avogain online but since you live in Canada there may be an import duty and sales tax, the amount of which depends on your province or territory of residence. Good luck, and let us know how well this works for you.

Minoxidil 5% and increased hair loss
9/20/2012
Hi, I have hair loss the doctor has given me minoxidil 5% and I used for a month with no result but my hair loss become extreem after using that what should I do? Should I stop using it?

Flower

AskDocWeb: This product does not work with all types of hair loss and in some cases may make matters worse. The patient information for minoxidil says to check with your doctor if you have increased hair loss.

Increased hair loss
9/22/2012
Hi I am using Mintop 10 for the past 10 days and i am experiencing more hairfall than earlier, is it normal?

Shariq

AskDocWeb: That is not what typically occurs with the use of Mintop however, it is covered in the patient information. “Tell your doctor if your hair loss continues for more than 2 weeks. Also, tell your doctor if your hair growth does not increase after using Minoxidil for 4 months.” Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Mintop.

Continuing finasteride after stopping minoxidil
9/22/2012
m using mintop 10% from past 5 months n also taking finestride and biotine once a day m gettin a grt response….my question is that if i use mintop for 12 months den i quit mintop..and have finestride and biotine for lifetime ..will all my hairs fall ?? which i gain frm mintop or finestride n biotine wont let dem go if i use those tablets for lyftym even if i stop using mintop 10% after 12months…plz do the needful

Abhishek

AskDocWeb: If we understand you correctly you are talking about using a combination of Mintop 10%, finasteride, and biotin for one year and then discontinuing the Mintop. To our knowledge, that approach has not been studied in clinical research so there is no data to use as a guideline. However we like the idea of using Mintop to start the hair growth and then using finasteride to keep it from falling out, with or without the biotin.

One thing to be cautious about is using the 10% strength of minoxidil. That strong a solution has been reported to cause the growth of unwanted facial and body hair. You may get the results you want from a 2% solution for women or a 5% solution for men.
