Should I use minoxidil?
1/27/2013
HI im 19 years male. im suffering from hairloss problem. should i use minoxidil? if yes then which % i use…
Unknown
AskDocWeb: You don’t need a prescription to buy topical minoxidil in most places around the world. In the U.S.A. minoxidil is sold over the counter under several brand names. What percentage you choose depends on your gender. The 5% solution is FDA approved for men but not for women because of reports of the growth of unwanted facial and body hair. The FDA has approved the 2% topical minoxidil solution for Women. 19% of women reported moderate hair regrowth after using minoxidil topical solution 2% for 8 months and 40% had minimal regrowth.

Hi, i am 25 old using a tablet Aptoin from last 10years. I came across my hai fall from last 4years and i tried some homeopathy treatment nd tried using lemon nd onion on my scalp recommended by some other websites but nothing worked. i got to knw from a pharmacy abt mintop forte 5% to prevent hair loss. i checked most of these comments but since i am using a tablet everynight so decided to confirm first before using it. also my dad has no hairs but my brother has so i would request u please advise me whether i can try this or not with my shorten hair or shaved.
Sunil
AskDocWeb: Mintop Forte is a topical solution applied to the scalp. If the tablet you are using every night is Aptoin, we can’t help you with that because it doesn’t appear in our references, which refer mostly to drugs sold in the U.S.A.

HR
AskDocWeb: Of the two products, the finasteride is more likely to cause sexual problems. If you think that finasteride is causing your sexual dysfunction then you may have to decide what is more important to you, a full head of hair or your sex life, which is not any easy choice.
Regrowth of hair
1/30/2013
Hi, how much time is required for regrowth of hair after applying minoxin2% i m 42 yrs.
Dr A
AskDocWeb: Of course that varies with the individual but in general you should notice a decrease in hair loss by the end of the second week. That is, if it works for you, which is not guaranteed because it does not work for everyone. According to the manufacturer you should tell your doctor if your hair growth does not increase after using Minoxidil for 4 months. You may want to consider taking a picture before you start and then once a month to evaluate your progress.
Rash

Sir, i am using minoxidil 5% and finax 1mg tablet from 7 months. I see some little-2 hair regrowth. But i see one side effect is rash on body. please give me advise there is any serous problem. can i stop these medicine. Please suggest.
Sunil
AskDocWeb: Please note that this forum is for sharing information about the effectiveness and side effects of minoxidil. It is not to be considered medical advice.
Skin rash may indicate a possible hypersensitivity to minoxidil. Unfortunately skin rash is also a possible side effect of finax (See Propecia) and it is not possible to determine which product is causing it when using both together. If one or the other is discontinued for a couple of weeks and the rash goes away then you probably stopped the right one.
Oral minoxidil tables
1/31/2013
I have been prescribed 1MG of oral minocidil (tablet) and 200MG spirolactone daily. I have found a marked improvement in the thickness of my hair. However I know that if I get pregnant I should stop using it until I have finished breastfeeding. How long before getting pregnant should I stop using the drugs to make sure they are completely out of my system?
Chillout
AskDocWeb: We will answer your question but please note: This forum is for sharing information about the effectiveness and side effects of topical minoxidil. Minoxidil tablets are off-topic here.
Oral minoxidil tablets have a half-life of only 4.2 hours so that would be out of your system within one day. The half-life of spironolactone is only 1.3 hours however the half-life of its active metabolites persist a little longer. It too takes about 24 hours for it to be out of your system. According to Dr. S. RIAZ, Spirolactone (spironolactone) should not be taken during pregnancy because by blocking testosterone it might interfere with development of a male fetus. A woman should stop taking any antiandrogen two months before trying to conceive.

18 year old with hair loss
2/1/2013
Am 18 years old and i loss some small hair at the left side of my head, I have not consulted any doctor and I dont know the reason the reason that hair loss so I went to achemist where they show minoxin, so if I use that minoxin will accualy help. I want your advice.
Nunez
AskDocWeb: Medical advice should come from your doctor after he or she has had a chance to evaluate your condition. Some causes of hair loss are very serious and require medical attention. For example, a thyroid that is out of balance may require medical attention and using a product intended for hair loss will not fix that so please, consult with your doctor.
