Subj: Chest pain then erectile dysfunction
Date: 5/24/2007
I used rogaine for about one year the 5% strength, and I stopped use because of chest pain, which eventually faded after not using it. What does this chest pain mean, can it lead to coronary disease or heart attacks? I haven’t used it in about two years, but I have been experiencing erectile dysfunction since then and I am far too young for that to happen to me. Is it possible that rogaine caused that even though I haven’t used it in about two years and am still experiencing ED?
DG
AskDocWeb: You really can’t say if it’s the Rogaine without a lot of testing. We suggest you see a urologist.
Subj: Part is begin to thin
Date: 5/31/2007
Hi, I would like to ask regarding my case. I’m 25 male having thinning in front of my hair, it started from my middle parting. Now my middle hair parting is begin to thin up. I’m just wondering should I start using minoxidil? Previously I was recommended to use aminexil may I know what is the different between the 2 products. What is your solution to treat thinning hair? Some doctors just advise me to take pregaine shampoo and some vitamin supplement, is it effective enough to treat hair loss? Thank you. I would be glad to hear from your professional advice.
Stanley
AskDocWeb: Aminexil is too new to know how well it will work out. It seems to be available only in Europe so far, released by L’Oreal/Vichy labs. In a placebo controlled trial with 130 men, daily use of Aminexil increased hair in the growing phase by 8% by men taking Aminexil. That’s not very impressive.
If your doctor advised you to take a vitamin supplement then take a look at Advecia.
Subj: Mintop
Date: 6/4/2007
Hi, I am using Mintop form 6 months. If I am planning for a baby can I continue using it? Please reply immediately. If I discontinue now, will I loose my hair again?
Arti
AskDocWeb: Yes you are likely to lose your hair again when you discontinue use, sorry. The PDR says that it shouldn’t be used during nursing. Please talk to your doctor before using it while pregnant.
Subj: Minoxidil for my eyebrow
Date: 6/13/2007
Hi According to your advise I’m using Minoxidil for my eyebrow, I’m using my finger taking one drop and applied to the have part of my eyebrow with low density. I’m asking 1) What normal side effect do expect that could I face? 2) how long do you think my hair can increase a little? 3) I’m trying to avoid touch my eyes while applying the medicine, incase if some drops goes inside the eye it will damage the eye? Or what kind of harm that can I get from this accidents? thanks with regards,
Ahmed
AskDocWeb: Sorry Ahmed, we do NOT advise the use of Minoxidil anywhere other than the scalp and that means only on your scalp.
Subj: African American female
Date: 6/13/2007
I am a 38 year old African American female and I have been using Rogaine 2% 1/2 dose once a day for 3 months for excessive unexplained hair shedding. I went to 2 dermatologists and they recommended I try it since there is no explanation for my sudden hair loss. After 2 months I noticed less shedding and then recently I woke up to hair on my face-forehead, cheek. I like the product, however, I am in the process of seeing a 3rd dermatologist in 6 weeks to get a deferent answer to my hair shedding and I don’t know what to do. Should I stop using it completely and risk the hair shedding all over again? Is the hair growth experienced by women beard like because I can wax if its not going to get too excessive? Other than that I haven’t really noticed any other side effects. I just want to have hair. I didn’t know that it only works for about 2 years. I have no history of hair loss in either side of my family-male or female. I am really upset since it seems I take 1 step forward and something forces me 2 steps back. Let me know.
Renee
AskDocWeb: If you can avoid getting the Minoxidil on your forehead that hair will gradually dissipate. And the length of time it works varies from one person to the next so you can use it while your can.
Subj: Scalpmed
Date: 6/14/2007
I tried Scalpmed for 4 months. It helped marginally only. Their customer service dept. told me that it was because I was not applying it consistently twice daily. Anyhow, I stopped using it because I started to experience headaches, more rapid heartbeats and weight gain like never before. Only 4 months after stopping, has my weight began normalizing again. I have dropped 4 lbs. but I am still 4 lbs. over my normal weight. I am in my mid forties and I take thyroid medication for hypothyroidism. I noticed that getting more sleep and relaxation, a bit of exercise, combined with hair vitamins, calcium and antioxidants (including vitamin A, C and E) have helped a little with the hair loss problem. Stress is the worst for hair loss and also laxatives or diuretics.

Subj: RegenePlex
Date: 6/15/2007
RegenePlex – another question about this, you had good feedback from Procerin which is drug free and it basically has the same main ingredients that Reneneplex has that stop DHT, so how could this be worse then procerin?
Johnny
AskDocWeb: It’s not a question of which one is worse, rather it is the fact that there is a lot of feedback from men who say Procerin works, but none for RegenePlex.
Subj: Minoxidil side effects
Date: 6/20/2007
I used minoxidil 5% for 8 months and it worked well for my hair but caused side effects. My eye lids became swollen and I got dark rings. I may have also have developed some wrinkling around my eyes. These serious side effects are not mentioned in the instructions!

Subj: Minoxidil for women
Date: 6/21/2007
I have used Minoxidil 2% before with good results but I went on holiday and didn’t take it with me and then developed a terrible reaction to it. I started using it this year from March and developed contact dermatitis, which I had to use Elocon for. I now have a reasonable amount of regrowth, including new baby hairs on the frontal hairline where I use the minixodil but I am finding it has now come to a standstill and feel that my hair is slowly going. Would you recommend that I use 5% for women? Do they actually have 5% for women?
Sherry
AskDocWeb: No, the 5% Minoxidil is only for men, sorry. On the other hand you may want to check with a dermatologist.
Subj: Finax
Date: 7/3/2007
First I would like to thank you for such a nice platform. I have started minoxidil 2% with tablets of finax (for last 2 weeks) and witnessing severe shedding. Shall I continue? Is it of if I apply monoxidil on whole crown. I take care that it doesn’t come to my forehead and ears and neck thanks in advance for you suggestion.
Vishal
AskDocWeb: Shedding has been reported by many men when first starting use. Most hair loss products seem to have a shedding phase before hair regrowth begins don’t give up too quickly. We suggest you give any hair loss product six months before deciding one way or the other.
Subj: Doctor doesn’t believe
Date: 7/4/2007
I have been on Minoxidil since February (16weeks) and have gained 10+ pounds. To me this is rapid. However my doctor has me on 5% and doesn’t believe minoxidil is the problem. My thyroid is at normal levels. Should I stop using? I’m just starting to see regrowth? Suggestions?
Sandy
AskDocWeb: That presents a problem because rapid weight gain is listed as an adverse reaction to Minoxidil, and you are supposed to contact your doctor. You could check with a dermatologist, they are more familiar with the side effects of Minoxidil and what to do about them.
Subj: Intensified hair fall
Date: 7/7/2007
Hi, first I would like to thank you for such a lovely platform for info. I have started minoxidil since last two weeks and I am noticing an intensified hair fall. Should I continue? And is it ok if I apply minoxidil on entire top head, I take care that it doesn’t come over my forehead or ears. Your advice is very valuable for me.
Vishal
AskDocWeb: We call that intensified hair fall shedding and it may last from 4 to 6 weeks. After that new hair should begin to come in. Since hair grows so slow you will have to be patient.
Subj: When can I stop?
Date: 7/17/2007
I have been using minoxidil for 11 months 2% and I use 5% on some spots. I’ve been recently trying to quit but my hair falls so much I can’t stand it, when can I stop using mimoxidil without losing what’s left of my hair?
Thuraya
AskDocWeb: This is the problem with all hair loss products, that is, the ones that work. If you stop using them you start losing hair again.
Subj: Libido steadily decreasing
Date: 7/22/2007
I have been using Rogaine for the last 3 years. Although initially there was some new growth, I now have steadily falling hair. I am contemplating discontinuing it and let nature take its course. I also notice that during this 3 year period of use, my libido has been steadily decreasing (I am 36) and have erectile dysfunction. Also my testicles seem to have shrunk in size since I was using Rogaine. I use no other medication except Rogaine and my last medical CPX, all reports were ‘normal’. Is there a connection?
Eric
AskDocWeb: There may or may not be a connection. We suggest you consult a urologist to find out.
Subj: Hair still falling out
Date: 7/22/2007
I am a female with sudden hair loss over the last few months, been shedding and losing my hair like crazy. The hair on my head is very thin now and the hairs I have lost all have a white ball attached to the root end, sometimes, rather big. I have gone to a dermatologist, and she just said to use Minoxidil, without really looking at my scalp. I have been using it for a month and it still is falling out, seemingly more than usual. Is it possible I have telegon effluvium, and the minoxidil made it worse? Will it grow back if I stop using it? Testosterone is slightly high, but she doesn’t think that’s the cause. Thanks, I have now bought Nioxin follicle booster.
Lee
AskDocWeb: Yes it is possible but that doesn’t mean it is likely. Many people have reported an increase in hair loss (shedding) after commencing use of a product for hair loss. And that shedding is not unique to Minoxidil, users of other products such as Propecia and Procerin have also experienced the same thing. Typically the shedding lasts 4 to 6 weeks before the hair starts growing back. Read more feedback about Minoxidil.
