Filled with anxiety
Date: 11/2/2013
I have always had kind of fine thin hair, but this past August I felt as if it was getting thinner. now I can see some scalp in patches and I am so filled with anxiety.. I have seen a Dermatologist and my my internist and had all blood tests and they are normal. My Vitamin D was 33, which my internist says is okay for me. Could the 33 count in Vitamin D be one factor in my sudden hair loss? Also I was on Bystolic for a few years and cut the dose down to 5mg in July and then went off the beta blocker. I am now on lisinopril. Would stopping the beta blocker cause my hair to fall out?
How would I find a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss? The dermatologist just ran her fingers through my hair and said I had alopecia, pull test #1?? Start on 5% Rogaine twice a day and see her in 4-6 weeks. That’s all she did, in three minutes. Thank you so much for this site. It helps ease the stress.
Loulou
AskDocWeb: You are welcome Loulou. Reducing stress and anxiety is worth doing because both are known to contribute to hair loss. As for finding a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss, that may require a considerable number of phone calls and one may not be available in your area.
Testing for vitamin D is best done by a nutritionally oriented physician because it is very important that they order the correct test, which is 25(OH)D, also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D. This test is a better marker of overall D level, and is most strongly associated with overall health. So what should your vitamin D level be? Based on large-scale clinical research findings here are the indications for various levels of vitamin D.
- Less than 40 ng/ml is deficient
- 40 to 70 ng/ml is optimal
- 70-100 ng/ml treat cancer and heart disease
- More than 100 ng/ml is excessive vitamin D
For more information what to do about your vitamin D level go to Grassroots Health And download their free chart.
Hair loss caused by using beta-blockers is usually reversible by stopping the beta-blocker but obviously this is not a realistic option for some patients. For those who discontinued use, their hair returned to normal over a period of 2 to 3 months. Please note that when discontinuing a drug, always do so with the guidance of your physician.
MX 5% maxium
Date: 11/4/2013
Hi i am using MX 5% and Finax based docs prescription from march 2013 and i stopped MX 5% on act 10th(but continued Finax) because i am not packed it to my tour. I want to restart MX 5%, shall i restart it now… And i want to know how many days can we miss dosage of mx 5% maxium, because i missed it for 25 days… And please tell me does hair fall will start again as it happend when i first started Mx 5%…(Because when i first started it causes more hairfall and after that it contolled)
Srikanth
AskDocWeb: We are not familiar with MX 5% maxium but it appears to be a low-alcohol formula using minoxidil. Unfortunately there is no data from clinical studies about stopping and starting minoxidil again. The studies were about continuous use of the product. After discontinuing minoxidil an increase in hair loss may be noticed starting anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks and continue for a few months. Since you missed it for only 25 days it is possible that you might not go through any of that.
Is there a short and permanent solution?
Date: 11/4/2013
Sir, i am 21 yr old girl using coveritAx -5% , keraglo and klinque shampoo. I had a hair loss problem since 5 years doctor said it may be because i twice have chicken pox and jaundice.. i am using this medicine from 3 months and just have little diffrence in my hair growth but from the second month of use. I had fungus problem on my finger so is it can be because of it…??? And i am using pantene conditioner with it so does it create any problem or reaction. As i read the feedback i am worried to use it till my whole life is there any better solution. Or is it possible in some case even after stop using it they don’t face the hair loss again..?? I want short and permanent solution is there any…?? Or should i stop using it.. take any homeopathic treatment frm Dr. Batra or try natural oil.. which way is better..,?
Sakshi
AskDocWeb: Sorry, a short and permanent solution for hair loss does not yet exist. The appropriate treatment for hair loss depends on each individual’s genetic history, current condition and behavior. Some types of fungus do cause hair loss but not all of them. That is just one of the many things that need to be considered before deciding on a treatment, which is why we recommend consulting a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss.
Mini top 10
Date: 11/9/2013
I am bold and want mini top 10 for treatment. Is it good for regrowth my hair?
Raju
AskDocWeb: We consider the 10% formula of minoxidil to be experimental and may have unknown side effects. One possible side effect that has been well documented is the growth of unwanted body hair. That is on areas other than your scalp.

When I was using minoxidil5% I had burning and red spots so I was scared does it react to sunlight and cause patches are any other effect, if I smoke does anything happens while using minoxidil5%?
Chethan
AskDocWeb: Many people use coconut oil to improve hair growth and repair damage so that is unlikely to cause hair to fall out. As for advice on what to do in your particular situation, we refer you back to your doctor. This forum is limited to discussing the effects and side effects of these products.
