Minoxidil and pregnancy
Date: 4/29/2014
I am male 26yrs old. I have been using minoxidil 5% topical solution for the past 8 months as prescribed by the dermatologist and biotin tablets for about a month. Recently I have been hearing while using minoxidil it is not recommended to get married or getting pregnancy because minoxidil will affect the babies in pregnancy, etc.. Please let me know which is true?

Ramlesh

AskDocWeb: The Food and Drug Administration has assigned topical Minoxidil to pregnancy category C. Animal studies using oral minoxidil have failed to reveal evidence of teratogenicity, however reduced conception rates and an increased incidence of fetal absorption have been observed in rabbits given 5 times the usual human oral dose. For this reason Minoxidil is not recommended for use by pregnant women.

AskDocWeb: Women who use the percentages above 2% have reported the growth of unwanted body hair. The higher the percentage the more likely that is to happen. Men don’t usually complain about this because they naturally have more body hair to begin with. Due to the lack of research on percentages above 5%, we consider those higher percentages to be experimental. The possible side effects and effectiveness are unpredictable.

17years old boy
Date: 5/20/2014
am no longer using minoxidil…am a 17years old boy….and my question is can i use this minoxidil on my face., will it grow facial hair….plz dont tell that -its your genetic makes this control….is rogaine and minoxidil are same…. .or can u plz suggest me about any product that makes hair grow faster….i prefer natural way and chemicals….its urgent….plz HELP ME

Akshay

AskDocWeb: The most natural way to grow hair is to ignore it because hair grows at its own pace without you doing anything to help it grow.

The active ingredient in Rogaine, that is the ingredient that makes the product work, is minoxidil. Applying it to parts of the body other than the scalp is not recommended. That would be “off-label use” and has not been approved by medical professionals.
