AskDocWeb: We would not use any product for hair loss that didn’t produce at least some results after using it for three months.

I am 20 years. I have a hair fall problem. Can I use mintop 5% without the advise of doctor? I have family history of hair loss and i do not know the reason for your hair loss.
Arya
AskDocWeb: Because you are outside of the USA you would need to call a local pharmacist to find out if that is legal.
Use it for lifetime?
Date: 7/2/2014
Once i start using minoxidil, will i have to use it for lifetime? Because as i read about this medicine once i stop using it my hair fall will start again. Is it true?
Garima
AskDocWeb: Yes, this is why it is called a “treatment” rather than a cure. Unfortunately, from a patient’s perspective, there is more money to be made selling treatments, which have to be used continuously, than there is selling a cure that is used only once.
No result in 15 days

I have problem in front side’s now am using minokem 5% already 15days complete but no result
Sanju
AskDocWeb: Hair does not grow that fast. We would wait three months before assessing possible results.
Is it true?
Date: 7/18/2014
My hair started to lose some 3 years back. As my temples are shedding i just used my friend’s monoxidil. I didn’t see any results and i stopped it. This time my crown is thinning and went to dermatologist, he suggested me the same. I heard that if u stop once and then use it, u don’t see any results. Is it true although the area of application is different.
Ramesh
AskDocWeb: That is not true. Just don’t expect results in a few days. It takes a few months to see results.

Date: 7/26/2014
I am using it from 2 years. its not working.
Raj
AskDocWeb: If it wasn’t working for us after three months we would discontinue use. Even the manufacturer says that if it doesn’t work with one year then it is not likely to work at all.

Questions about Mintop
Date: 8/3/2014
Hi I am experiencing excessive hairloss, and mostly in the crown/frontal region and a few bald patches in the center of the head. My doctor has advised me to use mintop 5% for some time and then switch to mintop 2% eventually. I have read on the internet that 2% is appropriate for females and 5% for males. What are the likely side effects it might bring? Is weight gain a posibility? Also, I am more concerned that will it lead to hair growth in other parts of mty body, especially facial hair? Also, do i have to use it forever?
In case i reduce the frequency, then will it lead to falling of only those hair which are new, or my existing hair as well? It might strengthen some existing hair, so will i lose them as well? Also, i oil my hair regularly, so can i keep doing that and after washing my hair and drying, can i then use mintop? or will i have to stop using oil altogether?
Gracy
AskDocWeb: The active ingredient in Mintop is minoxidil and side effects are listed here. According to data provided by the manufacturer it appears that discontinuing results in the loss of new hair but not existing hair. They do not say what would happen if you reduce the frequency other than that the product would not be as effective.
The instructions for applying minoxidil say that the product needs to dry completely in order to be effective. Applying oil to the scalp before the minoxidil is dry may reduce effectiveness. We have seen no evidence that applying oil to the hair after minoxidil has dried would have any effect on effectiveness.

Hairloss at 21
Date: 8/15/2014
Age-21, i suffer from hairloss since 2011, and i went to dermatologist, and she prescribed minoxidil 5% asked me to apply it for 4 months, ah yes, i applied it. For the first month, it seem to work out abit and i continously use upto prescribed period, but after a prescribe period was over, again it fall out and now almost to bald, my crown area is visible. So what wil i do now, i dont want to go bald at my age. Note: within a prescribed period of 4 months, i dont realy knw the result, because i cut off all my hairs, and i applied minoxidil on my scalp. Plz help.
Nangoo
AskDocWeb: Minoxidil is a treatment (not a cure) and must be used twice daily in order to keep the benefits. Hopefully your dermatologist did the tests needed to identify the cause of your hair loss. If not you may want to find one that does their job.
