Subj: Lost 6 pounds already
Date: 10/8/2006
I’ve been using asenlix for 4 days now. I’ve lost 6 pounds already. I didn’t eat the first 4 days, only drank water. Today is the 4th day and I only eat a plum and a chicken thigh that was baked. I’m 182 now and trying to reach 145 by December. Is that healthy?

Kerri

AskDocWeb: Loosing about a pound a day is good but, losing weight by not eating anything is not healthy and it doesn’t work in the long run. Your body responds to the starvation by increasing your appetite and you wind up gaining weight instead of loosing it. You need a balanced diet to provide the vitamins and minerals required for health, just reduce calories to l000 or 1200 a day. You also need an exercise program to burn off the fat. Remember, feed the muscles and burn the fat.

Subj: Phytoshape
Date: 3/25/2007
What are the side effects of phytoshape?

Maha

AskDocWeb: According to chemical analysis by the National Health Authority (NHA) Phyto Shape contains a chemical called sibutramine which is dangerous to your health.

Sibutramine has grave side effects. It can cause increased blood pressure, allergic reactions which could lead to breathing difficulties, closure of the throat, and a swollen tongue. It can also lead to easy bleeding, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats, severe headaches, blurred vision and seizures.

Phyto Shape was banned on the UAE market after the country’s Ministry of Health declared it was not a herbal supplement as claimed.

Subj: This is about Lamictil
Date: 5/30/2007
I was put on this (along with wellbutrin) by a doctor after an extremely horrible event (death) where I couldn’t stop crying. I was diagnosed bipolar, and have been on this combination of drugs for close to 5 months. I have always been a pianist (serious one) – and I can’t play a thing now, which has distressed me greatly. I want to get off these drugs, and not sure about the advice to not worry about stress. Music has been my beloved companion for years, and not to be able to play anything (at the level of my 6 and 7 year-old students I’ve taught)…is more than I can handle. Advice? THANK YOU.

Hillary

AskDocWeb: Wow, this is an awful thing to happen. Because it’s been five months since you went through that horrible event, you should be going forward with your life by now. It sounds like you need both medical and counseling help. Hopefully the loss is not permanent.

Subj: Anti-aging cream
Date: 6/20/2007
I just started using an anti-aging cream containing retinol, however I found that it made me break out. Are pimples a normal side effect of retinol? I know that it is often used to treat acne.

Camille

AskDocWeb: Without knowing what product you are referring to, it is not possible for us to look it up to find out if it works like Retin-A or not. If it does then your skin condition typically gets worse before it gets better.

Subj: Tick removal
Date: 6/29/2008
A School Nurse has written the info below — good enough to share — And it really works!! I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great, because it works in those places where it’s sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.

Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and let it stay on the repulsive insect for a few seconds (15-20), after which the tick will come out on it’s own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I’ve used it (and that was frequently), and it’s much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can’t see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor’s wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn’t reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, ‘It worked!’ Please pass on: everyone needs this helpful hint.

Subj: Lactic acidosis
Date: 8/4/2008
My doctor said I may have lactic acidosis, because of a medication I was on. What is it? And how worried should I be? I had x rays, I am going to the heart doctor next week, and they are setting me up for other tests. She said she is concerned about my heart and kidneys, she also mentioned possible renal and kidney failure!

Brandy

Harry

AskDocWeb: That’s a good question to ask the maker of Hot Rox. We are not familiar with their product.

I have raynauds and it is getting much worse. Why is there not more research on a cure for this painful condition? I was taking premarin and for years had no flare up. When I went off it I got it worse than ever.
