Calcium around the heart?
Date: 11/21/2016
What is calcium around the heart? Is it serious? Am i able to still take calcium pills for my bones? Thank you for your good advice,
MHM
AskDocWeb: We do not give medical advice but can tell you a little about calcium aroud the heart. A CT scan of the heart can show a builup of calcium in the coronary arteries around the heart. This calcium is present in the plaques which can produce obstructions in the arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle. A narrowing of these arteries due to plaque formation can lead to heart attacks.
If you have been told that you have calcium buildup around heart you need to see a cardiologist to determine if further treatment is required.
On the subject of calcium pills, more research is needed before doctors know the effect that calcium supplements may have on your risk for heart attack.
Sources of medical information?

I was wondering where askdocweb gets the information. I personally have used your site for years. I have Lyme that is terrible and writing a book about it and would like to mention your site as a resource because there is nothing worse than feeling alone and so sick you can barely sit up in bed and having to chase things to help your health. I just want to know where the info was gathered from before I use it as a link.
