Report on Nettle Side Effects and Usage

Natural health supplements sometimes have unexpected side effects or interactions with medication that can lead to adverse reactions that are sometimes life threatening. The following is a list of cautions that you should be aware of before using Nettle (Urtica dioica). These are referred to as drug/herb interactions.
Warning 1 – Anticoagulants: Nettle may decrease the effect of anticoagulants. Experts recommend avoiding concurrent use.
Warning 2 – Central Nervous System Stimulants: Nettle may lead to increased CNS depression.
Warning 3 – Iron salts: Nettle may interfere with the absorption of iron salts.
Warning 4 – Lithium: Using Nettle with lithium may result in dehydration and/or lithium toxicity.
Warning 5 – Diuretics: Nettle may increase the affects of diuretics resulting in dehydration and hypokalemia. Experts recommend avoiding concurrent use.
Warning 6 – Drug/Herb interactions: Since nettle can also interact with certain other drugs, it’s important to consult your physician if you’re currently taking antiplatelet, anticoagulants, blood pressure medicine, diuretics, diabetes medication, and/or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
