Subj: Nexium with Valtrex?
Date: 5/12/2007
Can I take nexium and valtrex together if I’m 36 weeks pregnant? My doctor prescribed both for me, but I just wanted to double check. Thanks!
Shana
AskDocWeb: Yes.
Subj: Nexium lawsuit?
Date: 5/14/2007
I took Nexium for just several months last year and immediately noticed many physical problems such as weight gain, swollen face and limbs, numbness in hands and feet, dry mouth, rashes, joint pain, shooting pains all over and pretty much what everybody else is complaining about here on this forum. What I want to know is where is the class-action lawsuit because my quality of life has been ruined at the age of 40! I’ve been off it for 6 months and am still having some of these problems! I am livid! There is no way these side effects have only affected less than 1% of users! Nexium is dangerous and should be pulled off the market immediately! I’ll be waiting for a lawsuit to join!
Kevin
AskDocWeb: Let us know if you find a lawsuit against Nexium and we will share it here.
Subj: Perhaps it was reflux
Date: 5/21/2007
I been on Nexium for several weeks and have already noticed a weight gain with no other changes to diet, exercise, etc. The doctor also has me on Nexium morning and night. Is this typical? My symptoms are not the normal reflux symptoms. We first thought it was more allergy related, but when all the tests came back negative he thought perhaps it was reflux. I’ve had little improvement with the Nexium.
Kristi
AskDocWeb: We suggest you don’t take a “maybe” as an answer, go see a gastroenterologist.
Subj: Shortness of breath, pain in throat
Date: 5/23/2007
I have been suffering from gastritis, esophagitis and duedonitis for the last 4 months. I have been taking nexium for the last eight weeks, and I am still not recovered from my symptoms (shortness of breath, pain in throat, difficult swallowing, pain in chest, abdominal pain.) however, it could be that I have herpes, could this in anyway stop me from recovering quickly, please advise.
Fredrick
AskDocWeb: Sounds like you need go see an ear, nose and throat specialist first. Herpes wouldn’t change the results of the Nexium.
Subj: Asian Patients?
Date: 5/25/2007
Does Nexium have a side effect in Asian Patients? If so, what kind? Thank you,
Kathleen
AskDocWeb: The side effects of Nexium are pretty much the same as for other ethnic groups with one exception. A major role is played in the metabolizing of Nexium by the isoenzyme CYP2C19 and 15-20% of Asians lack that isoenzyme. They are termed poor metabolizers which means that it would stay in your body longer.
Subj: Nexium side effect?
Date: 5/28/2007
I have been on 40mg. Nexium for about 3-4 weeks. I have now developed loose stools several times a week and last night lower abdominal pain awoke me several times when sleeping and that was not the first time. Even though I have been on Nexium for a while is this still a late side effect of the purple pill? I have IBS but gave up eating red meat in January and have had no problems with that until I started taking Nexium. The pharmacists insist that the diarrhea side effect would have been right at the start of taking the purple pill not 3 weeks into treatment? Anybody else have the same problem? I plan to be on it for only 6 weeks and then it will be history. I dislike taking medicine to begin with but the heartburn was too much. Thanks,
Barbie
AskDocWeb: Our source of information agrees with your pharmacist, the diarrhea should have occurred soon after beginning therapy. In one study, 4.3% of Nexium users experienced diarrhea and 3.8% had abdominal pain.
Subj: Nausea and abdominal pain
Date: 6/3/2007
I had used Nexium for 7 weeks, but then began experiencing nausea and abdominal pain; could this be the result of the Nexium? It did help my acid reflux. Thank you.
Wendy
AskDocWeb: Yes it could so please tell your physician and ask about an alternative.
Subj: Malignancy cancer?
Date: 6/4/2007
What do you mean by malignancy cancer? When does this occur? Is it a certain age, can you die from this?
Nicole
AskDocWeb: No it isn’t a certain age, and yes you can die from a malignant cancer if it is not treated (surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy). The word benign means that it is not cancerous and not an immediate threat, malignant means that it could cause death. The concern with regard to Nexium is that if a person had cancer that the drug may mask or hide the symptoms.
Subj: Allergic reaction?
Date: 6/6/2007
Swelling around the eyes etching of the eyes and blisters under the skin.
James
AskDocWeb: That sounds like an allergic reaction, please consult with your physician.
Subj: Natural remedy?
Date: 6/10/2007
I have been taking Nexium for 4 years (40mg 1xdaily) Recently it didn’t seem to be working as well(I was under a lot of stress) and my Dr had me double up on it. Some days though, I’ll need to take a third pill if I have reflux pain. I have been researching natural remedies, including apple cider vinegar and honey. Can I use this natural remedy in conjunction with taking the nexium? Thanks,
Lorraine
AskDocWeb: Most likely you can but you should talk this over with your doctor to be sure. And tell him about having to take a third pill when you have reflux pain.
Subj: Nexium and alcohol
Date: 6/22/2007
Can alcohol be used when taking Nexium at like at most 3 beers?
Leona
AskDocWeb: There is no warning listed with Nexium regarding alcohol.
Subj: Lots of problems
Date: 6/22/2007
I have been taking Nexium for about 3 weeks. Besides gastro problems, I also have Fibromyalgia, RLS, IBS and bladder problems. The last three days, after taking Nexium (and synthroid) before breakfast, I noticed extreme dizziness, increased depression. I also suffer from insomnia and at night I have to take Lunesta and Neuronting for pain. Almost immediately after taking Nexium 1 mg of Lunesta I stopped sleeping. And even if I did finally (3-4 and second 1mg of Lunesta) fell asleep, it resembled the night in the movies. Reality and dream merged. I do not tolerated drugs well, if at all. Is there a natural remedy that can help?
Ewa
AskDocWeb: The only natural remedy you need may be a change in your diet. Since you have several problems related to digestion we suggest you check your Yellow Pages under Physicians to see if there is a listing for a Nutritionist. If there isn’t one then check with a dietitian at your local hospital.
Subj: Severe dry mouth
Date: 6/23/2007
I have been on Nexium for over three years. Just recently I have been experiencing severe dry mouth which has been interfering with swallowing and eating. I have lost 4 lbs. in one week, which is highly unusual for me! I have stopped taking the Nexium and I was wondering how long will it take for the medication to leave my system?
Sylvie
AskDocWeb: It doesn’t stay around very long. The half-life of Nexium ranges from one to one and a half hours, it varies by individual. That’s the amount of time for half of the drug to leave your system.
Subj: Trying to conceive
Date: 6/27/2007
My husband has used Nexium for over 2 years were trying to conceive can the use of this drug be a link to our unsuccess in pregnancy?
Nancy
AskDocWeb: It isn’t known to cause this problem.
Subj: Break out on face
Date: 7/1/2007
Since taking Nexium I have a break out on my face. It has gradually worsened. It’s not like acne, it’s more like it’s under the skin. I saw a Dermatologist who said it looked like early signs of rosacea. Could the nexium be causing this problem? If so, what can I do about it?
Robert
AskDocWeb: Rosacea is not listed as a problem with taking Nexium. It is possible that it may be a reaction of some kind, so be sure to report this to the doctor who prescribed the Nexium.
Subj: Change in voice
Date: 7/1/2007
I am taking Nexium 40 mg since October. I noticed that I have sometimes change in my voice and lately feel like I have a sore throat. Is it possible this condition is the side effect of the medication? My stomach is much better since I am taking it but my throat and my voice is bothering me.
Ilona
AskDocWeb: There could be something going on that needs checked out. Please see a ear, nose and throat specialist to make sure. And tell them what drugs you are taking.
Subj: Dark bowel movement
Date: 7/4/2007
Since taking Nexium, I have noticed that there are times that my bowel movement is very dark. Not black and tarry, but very dark. There does not appear to be any blood, just the darkness of color. Could this be due to the Nexium? I eat a lot of red meat and green vegetables. Not every bowel movement is dark in color. Please answer.
S.M.
AskDocWeb: It could be just your diet, it’s not listed as a side effect with this drug.
Subj: Long term use of Nexium?
Date: 7/5/2007
I have taken Nexium for over two years. Went off it two months ago to try natural products, ended up on Refluxamine. That works pretty well but not all the time. I most always feel the acid build up. My doctor is putting me back on Nexium with my consent, however, I am concerned. He says there is nothing written about the negative impact on long term use of Nexium. Most reviews say don’t use more than 6 months. What I’m I to think or do?
Brian
AskDocWeb: This is one of the things we hope to address by collecting consumer reviews from long-term Nexium users.
Subj: Gastritis
Date: 7/7/2007
I started taking Nexium (40 mg. daily) for about one month now for Acid Reflux and gastritis (My stomach was inflamed). I noticed that the acid feeling and pain in the right side of my stomach was still there. The GI specialist told me to try taking Nexium twice a day. Well it has helped but I still get the acid feeling and soreness on the right side of my stomach off and on. I have already done so many tests (endoscopy, ct scan, colonoscopy). How long does it take for gastritis to go away?
Maggie
AskDocWeb: It may always bother you a little, but with Nexium there should be less discomfort. Read more feedback about Nexium.
