Subj: Nexium Ph7 for Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori)
Date: 3/3/2011
I took Nexium Ph7 because of Helicobacter pylori. I did follow the instruction and finished the course, but my left side just under the rib is still a little feeling of sore, is it normal? I got a diarrhoea three times only when it happened the third day of the course and lucky it is stopped. Is any possibilities of any bacteria or even cancer signal? Honestly, it is quite worry about me.
Jeff
AskDocWeb: There is a possibility that the first treatment might not have been completely successful. That is why it is important repeat testing after completing the treatment, which ensures that the infection has resolved. Testing is typically done with a breath or stool test. That might be a good opportunity to talk with your doctor about your personal risk.
Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) is the cause of most ulcers. This bacteria is present in more than 90% of patients who have intestinal (duodenal) ulcers and in more than 80% of those with stomach (gastric) ulcers.
Subj: Nausea
Date: 3/8/2011
I have had GERD and severe nausea for a year and a half now. I was scoped and put on prilosec, well that made me more sick! Then my doc switched me to prevacid, love it but I still had mild chest pains every now and then but all in all felt alot better! I’m now taking nexium. I take it in the morn. well on the 3rd day in the evening I started getting very nausated. I thought maybe I had a bug, well here we are 4 days later and my nausea I still very severe to the point where I can barely eat a cracker. What should I do? I’m thinking about just going back to the prevacid tomo. since I never had these problems and this has went on for a week now.
Kristin
AskDocWeb: Unfortunately nausea is a possible side effect of Nexium. If it gets too bad you will have to check back with your doctor. Remember that it is okay to use antacids while taking Nexium.
Subj: No side effects
Date: 3/9/2011
I started with Priloc and nexium for over 15 years for GRUD and have not experice any of the systoms stated above. Prior to nexium I was on every anti acid under the sun with bad results. Nexium was a God send for me…now I eat all most any kind of food to include dairy products. The only time I might have a problem is if I eat two meals on the same day that is fried.

Subj: Constant headaches
Date: 3/17/2011
I have been on Nexium 40 mg a day for 7 years. I had a scope recently and my reflux has gotten worse. The Specialist increased my dose to 40 mg “twice” a day. It has been 5 days so far and I am experiencing constant headaches. Will my system get used to it and the headaches will stop or should I call the doc? Thank You.
Becky
AskDocWeb: The directions for Nexium indicate that headaches should be reported to your doctor. As many as 5.5% of people using Nexium experience headaches. In some cases the headaches are severe to the point where the drug has to be discontinued.
Subj: I feel really great
Date: 3/18/2011
I have been off nexium since February 4, 2011. the pain is gone, focus is back, and I feel really great. About day three I had very bad heartburn. I took a nexium and have not needed any since. the shakiness is gone, as is the overwhelming fatigue. I am amazed that I feel so good. the weight is still there, but at least I feel well enough to exercise and get healthier. Thank You again. I have recommended this site to others who feel the same way I used to.
Melany
AskDocWeb: Thanks Melany. Readers should always check with their doctor before discontinuing any prescription drug.

Subj: Rash
Date: 4/6/2011
I took 1x nexium tab. of 40mg twice for mild acid reflux and broke out in an awful rash all over my torso and face; I turned a livid red in the same area as well. My Doctor put me on cortizone immediatley and told me to stop taking it. I’m also having difficulty breathing. Definitely going homeopathic.

Subj: Increased anxiety and fatigue
Date: 4/6/2011
My daughter was put on Nexium 40mgs. 2x daily in January of this year. She also takes Reglan 5mgs. 1x daily as well as Sertraline 25 mgs. 1x daily for anxiety. We have noticed, at about 1.5 mo. into the Nexium therapy that her anxiety has increased and at times is overbearing for her. She has never felt this anxious all the time as she has recently. Also she wants to take naps as she feels tired all the time, but the naps don’t seem to help her feel rested. The only thing we can trace this increased feeling of anxiety and sleepiness to is her starting on the Nexium/Reglan therapy for her acid reflux and slow emptying stomach issues. She has been on the Sertraline for several years and had felt under control during that time up until recently. She is in her 4th of a 6.5 year professional study and she at times wants to just leave school because she is so anxious all the time. Can you tell me if these new drugs can be the culprit??? Please help us find an answer…
Diane
AskDocWeb: Anxiety is listed as one of the possible side effects of Reglan that is considered severe and should be reported to the prescribing physician. Reglan therapy is also known to produce fatigue and lassitude in some patients even at the recommended dosage. In cancer chemotherapy patients the incidence rate of drowsiness in those being treated with Reglan is about 70%. Trouble sleeping is listed as one of the most common side effects of Reglan.
Subj: Knee aches
Date: 4/6/2011
I was on Prilosec 40mg x 2 for LPR for 2 weeks – that worked great for reducing the reflux but I started to get aches in the knees / tendons, so I switched to Prevacid – which didn’t work too well for the reflux. So, I’ve switched to Nexium now 40mg x 2 and the reflux is getting better and (I think) I am healing in the esophagus and the throat. However, the knee aches are coming back. Should I try reducing the dosage to 20mg x 2 instead? For LPR, acid must be controlled 24 hrs since the throat tissues are more susceptible to damage. My doctor had briefly mentioned that I could try that when Prilosec 40mg x 2 was first giving me problems. Thanks
RT
AskDocWeb: Musculoskeletal side effects have been noted in those using Nexium. These include arthralgia (joint pain), aggravation of arthritis, arthropathy, cramps, fibromyalgia syndrome, hernia, hypertonia, polymyalgia rheumatica, and back pain. Myalgia and bone fracture have also been reported. As a group, these symptoms occur in less than 1% of patients taking Nexium. Any change in your dosage should have your doctor’s approval first.
