Subj: Birth control
Date: 12/11/2007
I would not use any birth control products, the only thing you could use is a condom, cause if you ever want a child later, it may be really hard for you. I have birth control around 4 times in my life and haven’t got pregnant in 6 years without birth control, I wouldn’t use at all.

Subj: Extremely tender breasts
Date: 12/13/2007
I’ve been on Ortho Tri Cyclen LO for about 8 or 9 months and I still feel a little bit of swollen breasts or tenderness and cramping the week before my period. For about 2 weeks now my breasts have been EXTREMELY tender to the point of pain. A few weeks ago I did miss a few pills but was not sexually active on those days and was quick to catch up, so technically I’ve taken all that I’m supposed to. Is this pain a normal symptom of LO maybe on account of irregularity in consumption? Or possible pregnancy? Or maybe just out of stress?
Hannah
AskDocWeb: Breast tenderness is a side effect of Ortho Tri Cyclen LO but the drug company doesn’t reveal what percentage of users experience that problem.
Subj: Horrible
Date: 12/14/2007
I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for 3 months, and it was horrible. I had breakthrough bleeding during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of the “active” pills. I also developed awful cystic acne on my chin and jaw, and had virtually no sex drive. I’ve been on other brands of BC before, and never experienced anything like that. I stopped taking it after my last pack (about 1 week ago) and I’ve already seen improvements in my acne. Wouldn’t recommend this brand to anyone.

Subj: Trying to conceive
Date: 12/14/2007
Hello. I have been on tri-cyclen 28 now for 3 or 4 months. My doctor had put me on the pill because my periods were very irregular. I would go months without a period. Also, I had told my doctor me and my husband are trying to conceive. So she had put me on this pill to regulate me and hopefully when I go off it. I will be able to get pregnant. I was just wondering when the best time to miss pills are… I was wondering which week would be better to miss pills to help conceive. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Nikki
AskDocWeb: You can get a kit at your local drugstore (over-the-counter) that tells you when you are ovulating, but your need to talk to your doctor first. Are you missing pills on purpose in an effort to get pregnant? That sounds like you have misunderstood how to go about this so please, talk to your doctor.
Subj: What happens when you skip a period
Date: 12/15/2007
I am 26 and I, too, tried to skip a pill on tri-los. (I don’t really think age has anything to do with it. I’ve been on tri-los for years now. I was on regular tri-cyclen, but had major anger issues on it.) I’ve never tried to skip a period before, but was told if you continually take your next month, you’ll skip a period. So, 1.5 weeks later and I started spotting, then it got worse, but I kept taking my pills every day, as I wasn’t sure if it was just spotting or if this was a period. It’s been a week today of bleeding and my pack now will end in three days. The bleeding seemed to have stopped yesterday during the day, but come evening there was a lot of clots, it’s not fresh clots, so, I’m still wondering if I am on my period or if its just spotting. My question I guess would be, should I have stopped taking my pills once my bleeding started and do I stop now or finish the pack? I was thinking it would have a reverse effect – if I stopped the pill my period would stop, as in my period stops when I start taking the pill normally. I was worried I wouldn’t be protected against pregnancy so I kept taking the pills. Will I be bleeding for a month straight? This is putting a real damper on my sex life. Sigh. My husband just told me to go off the pill for a while, but what does he know! Ha. I just wanna hear that it’ll stop soon. Thanks for reading.
Keri
AskDocWeb: Thanks for sharing your first hand story of what happens when someone tries to skip a period and the mess it creates.
Subj: Just started Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo
Date: 12/17/2007
I just started Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo yesterday. I woke up this morning at 3 AM thinking I was gonna throw up. I had the worst cramps, and still do. My legs hurt so bad I can’t hardly stand. I just got off my period a day before I was put on the pill. I’m scared I may be pregnant? And I’m not sure if these are normal symptoms, or what’s going on? Please get back to me as soon as you can.

AskDocWeb: Rather than guess, please see your doctor as soon as possible.
Subj: Haven’t started yet
Date: 12/18/2007
I have been on tri sprintec for almost a year and I have missed two days on my birth control this month but as soon as I remembered I took them and I’m on my week that I supposed to start and its the third day and I haven’t started yet. Is this normal?
Kayla
AskDocWeb: It sounds like your cycle may be messed up from missing a pill twice. Do a home pregnancy test if you have been sexually active. It may be that you are just late.
Subj: Wrong pill
Date: 12/19/2007
I am a Sunday starter. When I started a new pack, instead of taking my first Sunday white pill I accidentally took the Saturday, blue third week pill, on that Sunday. On Wednesday when I went to take my pill I realized it was a Tuesday pill, so I took two. After taking two pills I realized, now in the third week of that pack, I started on the wrong pill. What should I do?
Mickey
AskDocWeb: It would be wise to use a backup form of protection until you are ready to start a new month.
Subj: Medicine that makes birth control ineffective?
Date: 12/20/2007
I recently started taking the pill, and I’m sick (probably with a cold) and I was wondering if it is safe to take ortho tri-cyclen lo and advil or tylenol? How do I know if the medicine will make my birth control ineffective?
Kayla
AskDocWeb: You can take Tylenol or Advil and it will not affect your birth control pill but if you have any doubts, ask your physician.
Subj: Just started
Date: 12/22/2007
I just started taking ortho lo. I’m on my second week of my first pack. my doctor told me it was alright to start the pack in the middle of my cycle if I was sexually active so I did. My period was suppose to start 3 days ago and hasn’t. Is that because I’m in the middle of a pack of pills? When should I start?
Amanda
AskDocWeb: Yes, since you just started these pills your periods will be off for awhile. It may take your body up to 90 days to become used to them so be patient.
Subj: Not starting
Date: 12/23/2007
I’ve been ortho tri-cyclen for a month now and it’s time for me to start my period but for some reason I’m not starting like I’m supposed to….why?
Shawna
AskDocWeb: When you change birth control pills, your period may not be regular for the first three months. You will just have to be patient because it may take up to 90 days for it to become regular.
Subj: It’s good to know its not just me
Date: 12/23/2007
I was on ortho tri-cyclen for years and it was great for my skin, the only problem was it did make me gain a few extra pounds but I think you learn to control that. My doctor switched me to tri-cyclen LO and I have been on it for 2 months. I’ve been catching myself crying at commercials, Christmas cards, any argument with my boyfriend, it’s getting ridiculous. This morning after crying because I was hungry and I couldn’t find anything I wanted to eat I decided to Google this birth control and see if I’m crazy or this is a side effect. It’s good to know its not just me and now I can get off this pill ASAP and go back to the regular. This pill should be taken off the market, it sounds like everyone is getting severe mood swings and it’s just not worth it!
