Subj: Missed two weeks of pills
Date: 3/5/2008
Ok I am on ortho tri- cyclen low and I have been taking them for like a 1 year or longer. And just last month I missed two weeks of them, and then I went back to the doctors and got more pills, and been taking them ever since. And I was like two weeks into the pills and I had sex again. I was just wondering if I’m pregeant because me and my friend started the pills the same time, and she had her period already.
Jamie
AskDocWeb: It sounds like it may be time to do a home pregnancy test.
Subj: Is there a chance of pregnancy?
Date: 3/5/2008
I have not had a period for 6 months. My doc gave me a pill to start my period, and gave me ortho to regulate my cycle and to clear up my PCOS. Is there a chance of pregnancy in doing this? I am a 30 year old insulin dependant diabetic. Will it affect my blood sugars? They are currently under control and my last A1-c was 6.4. I want a baby but I don’t know how it will happen with this new pill. Thanks,
Amy
AskDocWeb: I think the idea is to get your periods started and regulated before trying to conceive. It should not affect your blood sugars.
Subj: Am I pregnant?
Date: 3/5/2008
I have been on ortho tri for the past year now and I didn’t take a pill on a Thursday and the next day I started to spot. I wasn’t supposed to start my period till that Tuesday. I took a pregnancy test that Monday and there was a faint second line. Am I pregnant or is it just from spotting?
Cassie
AskDocWeb: Since the second line showed blue, you are. But that’s if you read it at the 3 minute mark, not after.
Subj: Started taking ortho lo
Date: 3/5/2008
I just recently started taking ortho lo 2 days ago. I took it for the first time on a Monday and I hadn’t gotten my period before I took it. I was suppose to start my period on Tuesday but it didn’t come, here it is the 5th and still no period. I am still on the white active pills, and really starting to get worried on weither or not I didn’t something wrong. Will I still get my period this month, or will I most likely get it next cycle pack? I have never missed a period before taking Ortho Lo. and I no I’m not pregnant. Please help
Laura
AskDocWeb: The directions say to start the pills the Sunday after your period started. Since you absolutely know you’re not pregnant, just continue on with the second pack and if your period doesn’t start with the second pack, consult with your physician.
Subj: Heavy spotting
Date: 3/6/2008
Hi, I started taking ortho tri lo at the beginning of my last period. I made it through the first week of pills fine, but on the first day of the second week of pills I noticed an immediate mood swing increase and almost became a different person over nite. I knew it was the pill because I have had emotional problems before with reg ortho tri. So, the next day I just didn’t take the next pill and have completely stopped. I didn’t really think about stopping it any other way, I just didn’t want to feel like that anymore, and by the third day of not taking it I was feeling back to normal. However, I have been heavily spotting ever since. Is this just part of my readjustment from starting and stopping the pill. It has been about five days since I took the last pill. Please respond. Thank you
Becky
AskDocWeb: You are correct, the heavy spotting is your body’s response to starting and stopping the pill.
Subj: Hair is thinning
Date: 3/6/2008
Hi. I’ve been on Ortho Tricylen for a few years. In the beginning, it significantly cleared up my skin, my breast size increased, and my sex drive increased. Now, after a few years on it, I’m noticing my hair is thinning…dramatically. My breasts are tender, my mood swings and PMS have returned, as well as serious headaches, and my periods are long, 5-6 days, followed by 2 days of brown spotting. Should I change pills? Or give my body a break from them all together? I’m obviously worried about pregnancy, but even more worried about my acne returning in my 30’s! Help!
JAG
AskDocWeb: You don’t have to put up with all that, consult with your physician about changing birth control pills.
Subj: Concerned about the pill becoming less effective
Date: 3/6/2008
I have been on Ortho Tri-Cylen for a little over six years now without any problems. My periods are regular, my face is clear, and I’m not pregnant, what more could a girl ask for? However, should I be concerned about the pill becoming less effective since I have been on it for so long?
Jessica
AskDocWeb: Doctor’s usually change a women’s birth control around the five year mark.
Subj: TriNessa
Date: 3/6/2008
I’ve heard different things about TriNessa but what I would like to know is if it is EXACTLY the same thing as Orth TriCyclen. I am mainly on the pill for my acne.
Jamie
AskDocWeb: No they are not exactly the same. Some women have reported that the generic didn’t help their skin condition (rash/acne) as much as Ortho Tri-cyclen. Others have reported experiencing side effects with the generic that they didn’t have with the name brand Ortho TriCyclen. So far we have been unable to find data on how often this occurs.
Subj: How long does it take?
Date: 3/7/2008
I was wondering how long does it take for the BCP – tri cyclen 28 to take effect.
Unknown
AskDocWeb: You should use a back-up form of birth control until after the first seven days of use.
Subj: Make this transition more comfortable
Date: 3/11/2008
My wife just switched from depo to ortho tri cyclen. What kind of side effects can I anticipate, and will they hurt me? And how can I make this transition more comfortable for her?
Jack
AskDocWeb: No, it won’t hurt you for your wife to be on a birth control pill. Understand that while her body is adjusting to the new pills she may experience mood swings and her period may be irregular for awhile. Typically that doesn’t last more than three months.
Subj: Red algae while pregnant?
Date: 3/17/2008
I am in my second trimester and I was wondering if it is safe to take red algae while pregnant?
Michelle
AskDocWeb: Warning: If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your OB before using red algae. There are more than 4,000 species of red algae worldwide and the affect of most of them are not known.
Subj: Recurring yeast infections
Date: 3/18/2008
I have been taking Ortho Tri-cyclen for 7 years now without any problems until about a year ago. I began developing recurring yeast infections. Could this be from long term use of the Ortho Tri-cyclen pill?
Jordy
AskDocWeb: It’s not common so consult with your physician to make sure something else isn’t going on.
Subj: Going off the pill to conceive
Date: 3/20/2008
I have stopped taking Ortho Tr-Cyclen the same day as the placebo (green pills) were to start. Id start the last 7 pills on Sunday but my period would always come on a Wednesday. It’s been about a week and a half since I stopped usage and my fiance and I really want a baby. Were trying to get pregnant now, and I’m wondering how much of a chance do I have of getting PG? I lay down after he ejaculates inside, I am extremely healthy, I never drink caffeine (although he does all the time!), and I am going to start the Folic Acid pills. I know that it’s difficult to predict ovulation after going off the pill (from what I’ve read), but as long as we continue to try we should conceive right? And how do I differentiate going-off-the-pill symptoms from pregnancy symptoms?
LeLe
AskDocWeb: Yes, as long as you continue to try you could become pregnant at any time. The symptoms of going off the pill do not last more than one to three months. You might ask your mother how long it took her to become pregnant and did she have any difficulties? There is no guarantee but that would be an indication of how things may go for you.
Subj: Anxiety and itchy spots
Date: 3/21/2008
I recently stopped taking Sprintec after being on it for a year and a half. I found that after I went off of it I have severe anxiety about my body and recently saw a doctor who gave me Lexapro. With the anxiety I have itchy spots randomly on my body but they have been constant since going off of the birth control and even before the Lexapro. Could the itchy skin be due to my anxiety? Is the Lexapro going to effect me getting my period? It has been 4 weeks since I stopped taking my birth control and 3 weeks since my last period and there is no chance of me being pregnant because I haven’t been sexually active for at least 6 weeks.
Em
AskDocWeb: Lexapro will not affect your mensis but your itchy skin could be an indication of an allergic reaction to the Lexapro so see your physician. Anxiety has been known to produce a rash and itchy skin in some people.
Subj: Bleeding 3 weeks out of the month and insomnia
Date: 3/21/2008
I have been on this for 5 months now and have experienced bleeding about 3 weeks out of the month, also insomnia. I’m hoping it’ll go away if not I’m gonna try to get back on the shot.
Nicole
AskDocWeb: Please see your physician, you shouldn’t be going through this at all. Bleeding for three weeks of mensis is not normal.
Subj: Spotting
Date: 3/25/2008
I have been taking Tri-nessa birth control for 2 years now, along with 300mg of Spironolactone per day. While on this birth control, I have never spotted in the middle of the pack before, but have been spotting for the last 2 days. Is this normal, or should I make an appointment with my gynocologist? Thank you,
Julia
AskDocWeb: See your gynecologist.
Subj: Side effects are ridiculous
Date: 4/2/2008
This pill is the worst…..I’ve been on it for 3 months and the side effects are ridiculous. I have discharge everyday, And I have horrible mood swings and I’m crying all the time. DO NOT take this pill I’m getting it switched ASAP.
Nicole
Subj: Wondering about switching
Date: 4/3/2008
I was just put on ortho tri cyclen lo recently and ever since the first week, I’ve been so sick. Headaches every day, stomach hurts so bad I have to make myself throw up, and constant mood swings. My boyfriend and I are starting to fight now becuz I’m never in a good mood and my sex drive is a joke. I was wondering if switching to yaz would be a smart idea? Some of my girlfriends are on it and love it, saying there are no stupid side affects. Your opinion??? Thanks,
Trista
AskDocWeb: Yaz is a good choice for many women but every birth control pill has the potential for side effects. Talk to your doctor to find out if this would be a good choice for you. Read more feedback
