Subj: Not taking the pill
Date: 10/12/2008
I have been on the pill for a month now. I got my period on about the 4th or 5th day of not taking the pill. If on the 8th day of not taking the pill if I am still on my period should I still start taking the pill again?

Anne

AskDocWeb: It sounds like you need more information than we can give you here. Please discuss this with your doctor.

Subj: Moody, crying spells and bitchy
Date: 10/13/2008
I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about 3 years now and have nothing to complain about. It’s a great pill, all the way up until now. I’m moody, I have crying spells, I’m bitchy to everyone around me, my family and boyfriend say I’ve changed and I’ve lost an interest in things I used to enjoy. I think maybe a little clinical depression possibly. But after all these years, is it possible that the pill is causing this NOW?

Jes

AskDocWeb: Yes, and that is one of the reasons for changing birth control pills every few years, time to discuss this with your doctor.

Subj: Worsened acne
Date: 10/14/2008
Ortho tri cyclen is the first birth control pill I’ve ever used. I started it primarily for birth control but also for the acne benefits as I had mild acne (most of the time my skin is flawless but sometimes I’d get flare ups, although it is rare). When I first started ortho tri cyclen, I experienced increased breakouts and worsened acne but I kinda suspected this as my doctor warned me that it might get worse before it got better. I’m about 2 weeks into my third month on Ortho tri cyclen now and the worsened acne has not improved. I was thinking if it doesn’t improve by the end of the 3rd month then I will switch BC, however I don’t know if I should give it 4 months. What do you think? How long should I try OTC before knowing if it will help with my acne?

Sandra

AskDocWeb: Whatever acne benefits you receive should be apparent by your third month.

Subj: Missed 3 birth control pills
Date: 10/14/2008
1 week before my period, I happened to miss 3 while birth control pills, I took them all I do believe in one day, the following week my period should of came on Tuesday… which it didnt… my body acted like it was here, I had some blood and discharge stuff so I just thought because of the 3 in 1 I messed it up, my fiance and I have protected sex, and I took a pregnancy test just to be sure and it was negative, so I am just wondering if I need to worry about this anymore, I am back on my new pack and taking them every day same time and I guess I am just making sure I am ok! Please get back to me when you can I would really appreciate that.

Gina

AskDocWeb: We encourage you to read the patient information that comes with each pack. It tells you what to do if you miss 3 pills. You can make up missing 1 or 2 pills but taking 3 pills at once is not recommended. There is also an increased risk of pregnancy when 3 pills are missed.

Subj: Hormonal change, weight gain, and mood changes
Date: 10/14/2008
I was on ortho tricyclin for about 5 months and I just stopped 2 days ago due to extreme hormonol change, weight gain, and mood changes. I don’t think that I’m going to take any more birth control unless I really need it. I’d rather just use condoms and have my body functioning normally, again. I’ve noticed already being off for 2 days my body feels lighter…I’d rather just have my tubes tied than taking a pill that affects everything you do…and it sucks because you are always worrying about if you’re being you, or it’s you being on the pill that’s making you act a specific way. Hopefully this information was helpful to you ladies…

Subj: Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo an emotional roller coaster
Date: 10/14/2008
I started taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo a year ago, and hated it at the very start. I bled the entire first month I started them, I was nauseated and gained weight that I just could not get rid of. This went away after three months though, and I hadn’t had any problems until I stopped it. I stopped it two months ago, I had two periods the month after I stopped it, and I haven’t bled since. I’ve also been on an emotional rollercoaster. I go from angry to very depressed in a matter of seconds. It’s horrible. So bad that no one wants to be around me. I never had this problem before I started taking the pill. I will never ever ever take any kind of birth control pill, patch, shot… anything with hormones. I’m sticking to the old fashioned condom method. The pill had screwed my system up horribly. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Just use condoms.

Subj: Strange spotting color
Date: 10/15/2008
I have been on Ortho Lo for about 4 months now…For the last 3 months my periods have been regular and pretty light but this month I have started bleeding slighty for about 3 days now(close to the day I was suppose to) but it is not getting any heavier (almost like spotting) and it is a very strange color. It is a very deep brown and it is pretty thick. Is this something that will just run it’s course or should I be concerned? I take my pill religiously everyday at the same time!!! Please help I am worried!

OMG

AskDocWeb: Since your periods have been regular for months, this change is enough to justify a trip to your doctor to check it out.

Subj: Serious panic attacks
Date: 10/17/2008
I switched from the mini-pill to OTC lo about 3 weeks ago. Within the first week, I started getting serious panic attacks, being anxious all the time, and not being able to sleep. These sysptoms haven’t subsided in two weeks so I have decided to go off the OTC and back to the mini-pill. It is great to read this page and realize I am not the only one. These symptoms should be listed very clearly — and should be discussed more clearly by a doctor I think.

Subj: Missed a week of pills
Date: 10/17/2008
Umm I’ve been on birth control for about a year now, and I’ve missed a few, I doubled up to get back on track but was told I shouldn’t do that and I should just start on the following week, I had a few spotting and things like that but now my doctor hasn’t signed off on my refill yet and I’ve missed for like week now, what should I do?

Jes

AskDocWeb: If more than two days are missed the instructions say to start a new pack and to use another form of birth control for the 7 days after starting the pill again.

Subj: Is there a possibility I’m pregnant?
Date: 10/17/2008
Hi, I’m on ortho try-cyclen since 6 six month the last month I took the pill late sometimes at 12.30 PM and 11pm and 4.30 PM or other times a month long and one time I forgot is it a possibility that I’m pregnet now cause my breast are tinleing I’m breaking out in my face and sore I have cramps and I’m tighed I’m not hungry I’m out of breath and have to use the bathroom more often well I stoped taking the pill now just to make sure and I havent gotton my period yet since 3 days is there a possibility that I’m pregnat or does it come from the taking the pill not on time pls tell me what to do thanks

Lisa

AskDocWeb: It does sound like there is a chance you could be pregnant. You may want to do a pregnancy test and if it’s negative, do another a week later just to be sure. In order for the pill to be effective you need to take it every day. Ideally it should be taken at the same time each day but a few hours one way or the other will not make any difference.

Subj: When will the pill be effective?
Date: 10/18/2008
Hey, this will be the first time I’ll be taking any sort of birth control pills (TriNessa). I’ll start my first pill Sunday, 10.19.2008. When will the pill be effective to have sex & the guy to ejaculate inside the women and have no worries about getting pregnant? Please respond soon. Thanks you!

Mar

AskDocWeb: The directions say to use a another form of birth control for the first seven days, after that it’s no worries.

Subj: Generic
Date: 10/19/2008
I was just wondering if you could tell me if TriNessa was a generic brand for Ortho Tricyclen

Kristy

AskDocWeb: The generic birth control pills are listed here.

Subj: Did your skin clear up after 3 months?
Date: 10/20/2008
I am on my second pack of ortho tri-cyclen lo and am not very happy. I don’t know if my body is just gettin used to it but my skin is breaking out horribly. I always thought that birth control was supposed to ‘help’ your skin and I was looking forward to that. Please, if anybody else has had this problem, let me know if your skin did clear up after 3 months or if you needed to switch.

Subj: Advice on Depo shot
Date: 10/22/2008
I am writing to advise any women interested in the Depo shot to NOT DO IT. I was on it from 16-21 then again after my daughter was born. The first time I gained nearly 80 lbs and for a lack of better words was CRAZY. I don’t know what I was thinking after I had my daughter to get back on it. I just didn’t want a period and thought maybe it was me back then not the shot….HA, it was the shot. So I just went back to the Doctor and told him my symptoms, moods swings are off the charts, this time I had no weight gain but my moods are too much for me to handle or any one around me for that matter. He switched me to Ortho Tri Cyclen, I got the generic Tri-nessa. Hopefully that will work…

Subj: Useless pills?
Date: 10/23/2008
I’m on ortho tri cyclen for 2 months now… on Monday Oct 20 I didn’t take my last blue active (#21) pill because I forgot…I had unprotected sex on Tuesday and he cam inside me…by the time I realized it on Wednesday night I took the last BlUE pill immediately that night… the instructions say that I don’t have to worry if it was just one pill and that I don’t need to take a back up method…what I want to know is if i’ll be ok…What do the blue pills do and why do we even have the green pills if they are useless…thank you for your time.

Rain42

AskDocWeb: Remember when you said you forgot to take a pill? That’s why there are green ones. You will find that it is much easier to remember to take the blue ones if you also take the green ones. They help you maintain the routine of taking pills so that remembering becomes a habit.

Subj: Put on 15lbs
Date: 10/25/2008
I have been on Tri-cylen for about a month now and I have put on about 15lbs in the last 2-3 weeks. I hate gaining weight because I’m a very active person and like to be in shape, I feel swollen all over! Is this a side affect? Can you recommend anything I’m desprate! On the upside my face is clearing up.

Dee

AskDocWeb: Yes, it is one of the possible side effects and it is common with most birth control pills. Unfortunately there is not much you can do about it.

Subj: Missed 5 pills
Date: 10/26/2008
I had missed my pill for about five days. I had forgotten it at home when I left for a short vacation. When I returned I took the rest of them. So that means I took six at one time. This week I am due for my period I have been getting blood spotting, and I never have before. Could this be from taking so many at one time and it threw off everything in my body? Can this make my period late?

KK

AskDocWeb: Yes it is likely to throw everything off, including your period. If you had unprotected sex during the time pills were missed or in the 7 days following, there is also a chance of being pregnant. You really need to review the directions if you want to avoid getting pregnant. Read more feedback
