Subj: Chances of becoming pregnant

I have been on Tri-Cyclen Low for about two years. I take my pill at 10:00pm each night…but I would say about twice a month I forget to take it until the morning. Also, often I will take my pill within an hour or two of 10 o’clock. I always use condoms for double protection. What are my chances of becoming pregnant because of this?

Subj: Trinessa nightmare

I was taking ortho for several years and then started taking Trinessa due to insurance. I took the Trinessa for 2 years. I am wondering your thoughts on this pill. It has been a nightmare for me. It made me a crazy person!! Severe mood swings with uncontrolable crying and depression. My face and neck have small red bumps all over. Face burns like crazy. I have been to dermatologists, taken all kinds of meds, had blood work done, etc. I stopped the pill about 3 weeks ago, hoping my face will get back to normal. Have you heard of any of these problems with this pill? How long do you think it will take after 2 years of taking this to get this out of my system. My face is driving me crazy.

AskDocWeb: It only takes a few days for the pill to leave your system but it can take up to 90 days for your hormone levels to return to normal. As you may know hormones play an important role in the condition of your skin.

Subj: Ankles swelling

My OB/GYN had me start taking trinessa to help with cysts (painful), heavy monthly bleeding. This is the first month I have been on the pill and I am currently on the 4 day of the green pills. I still have not started my cycle. I have notice my ankles have swellen and having more headaches then before. I only started noticing the swelled ankles yesterday and the last few days I have been naueased. Do I have anything to worry about at this time or will it take time for everything to work out? I have read some really scary stories about Trinessa but not having the monthly pain is a very good positve and actually my mood have has been more positive because the stress of the pain is gone but I do become more easily stress then before.

AskDocWeb: Any swelling in the fingers or ankles while taking Trinessa should be checked by your doctor. If it is accompanied by any numbness, call your doctor as soon as possible.

Subj: How long for body to regulate?

How long does it take my body to regulate after I stop taking my pills…I was on them for 3 years and I stopped taking them in Aug. I havent had a period since Aug. and I have taken preg. tests and blood test and everything is negative. It has been 12 weeks and I was just wondering when will I be able to get pregnant?

AskDocWeb: It can take up to three months for your hormone levels to return to normal after discontinuing birth control pills. You may become pregnant just days after discontinuing but just because it is possible doesn’t mean that it will happen right away. Some couples try for months before succeeding.

Subj: Should I be concerned?

I have a question. I just switched to ortho lo, it’s my 2nd month on it. I was supposed to get my period Sunday. I woke up that day with cramps, and bled a little, but mainly brown discharge. It completely went away by Sunday night Monday morning. Today is Thursday and I’m worried I’m pregnant. I take my pills everyday @ 830 AM, exept one day I took it at 10 am and had sex at 1030. Should I be concerned??

AskDocWeb: Remember that when you switch pills it can take up to three months for your body to adjust and variations such as this are common. We suggest you use a home pregnancy test to give yourself some peace of mind.

Subj: Diane-35

Hi…I’ve been on Diane-35 for over a year now, as well as Differin gel and Clindymycin. They have helped minimally in clearing my skin and I continue to have breakouts (mainly chin and cheeks). My free testosterone levels were “normal” as I thought it was hormonal (only started having acne at age 29 and mainly in my chin to cheek area). So my Gyno was recommending me to switch to Orthotricyclen instead of the Diane-35 but I thought the Diane-35 was a better option as it is a anti-androgen and the Ortho just has a lower level of androgens. Is Diane-35 or Orthotricyclen better as an acne treatment? Should I try the ortho or stay on the Diane-35? Thanks so much for your responses.

AskDocWeb: Since you have been on Diane-35 for over a year, whatever acne benefits the drug has should be evident by now. Maybe it’s time to follow the recommendation of your Gyno and give Ortho Tri-Cyclen® a try.

Subj: Problems with Ortho-lo

About a month ago I got off the depo shot and got on the ortho-lo, now I feel sick to my stomach all the time. Like pregnacy morning sickness but all the time I went 2 weeks were just the smell or thought of chicken made me sick. Now my boobs are swollen all the time and hurt like crap and have a lot of discharge more then normanl? Are these normal side effects?

AskDocWeb: Although there is an adjustment period when changing pills, sometimes the side effects of a new pill are too much and should be reported to your doctor. It is up to you to decide when side effects are too much.

Subj: Skipped a day

I lost a pill on Wednesday, so I skipped that day. On Thursday I continued my pill cycle. My period isn’t supposed to start for another week, but on Saturday morning (yesterday) I experienced horrible menstrual cramps and later that day started my period. I was wondering if this may have had something to do with the pill I missed. I was also wondering if I should just continue taking my pills as normal, even though I am a week early, so once I’m done with my period I will be taking the green “sugar pills”.

AskDocWeb: Loosing a pill is not a reason for skipping a day. If you just skip a pill without making it up by doubling up the next day, that temporarily reduces the level of protection that the pill provides. It may also result in problems like you are experiencing.

Subj: Did not follow instructions

I just starting to take trinessa. my first time taking birth control. Well I started to take the pill the third Sunday after my period, around the second week I started to bleed light now four days later my bleeding increased. I’m still taking the pill on time everyday. What should I do because I did not follow the instruction when I start the pill?

Subj: The most trying weeks I’ve ever had

Hello. I am 22…I have never smoked a day in my life…..and I have never been on the pill until recently. I am taking Ortho Tri Cyclen…I have been on it for about 3 weeks now…and let me tell you it has been 3 of the most trying weeks I’ve ever had I think. I first noticed it making me very nauseous about 4 days in ….to the point I had to leave my class because I felt like I was going to puke and couldnt pay attention. I have tried to stick it out because my doctor advised me it may be alittle rough initially for my body to adjust, but she assured me if it didnt work out or if the side effects were too severe she could switch me to tri cyclen lo. Well about 2 weeks in I called her…because I tried to sweat it out but I just couldn’t take it anymore. Not being able to eat because I feel sick to my stomach almost all the time…not being able to sleep because every time I roll over on my front side I wake in pain because my breasts are so tender. Feeling almost as if I have a fever sometimes…and what does she tell me? Wait it out until the end of the month …keep taking it…I feel awful…I feel like I wanna die everyday…and I dont know what to do because my doctor wont hear me…she told me she could try the lo…but then when I had problems…she wouldnt. She told me to wait …and right now I have an agonizing migraine. I never got headaches before this. I dont understand…I cant believe my doctor is being so dumb and I dont know what to do because I dont know if I can last with another week of this because it seems to be getting worse…

Subj: Hypothyroidism

I was diagnosed hypothyroid at 19 very soon after I started taking birth control pills. Over the next ten years my thyroid medicine had to be slowly increased and eventually reached 100mcg and stayed there the last few years. I stopped taking the birth control pills this year and after a month off the pills had my thyroid tested again and for the first time had to have my synthroid dosage DECREASED and significantly as well. I don’t think this could be a coincidence. I believe the birth control pills caused my hypothyroidism.

Hello, in 23 (with a 3 year old) and recently switched from orthonovum 777 to orthotricyclen. I’m on day 3 of the last week and no period yet…usually I get it on the 2nd or 3rd day. I started my new bc after I finished the pack of my old bc. If I didnt use protection with my husband during those 7 days it takes for the hormones to kick in, would that be chance for pregnancy? I’m just curious is this to be expected until the hormones and my body are back to normal around three months after taking this? Other than that, I’ve been feeling great…no complaints with this bc for me.

AskDocWeb: As long as you followed instructions when switching from one brand of pills to the next you should be okay for protection. Switching from one brand of birth control pills to another is known to cause some variations in the menstrual cycle, sometimes including amenorrhea (no period).

I was on the ortho tri cyclen lo and had not problem but being very moody and now they switch me to ortho tri cyclen regular to regulate my moody moods and now I’m having side effects where my hormones are low like my sex drive has stoped and I’m going nutts. I don’t want to get pragnet and worse comes to worse now I don’t want to have sex most of the time like I’m not in the mood and my breast are highly tender that it hurts and they are getting bigger and I’m gaining waight. I hate this sh*tty pill! I’m mad,

Subj: Dark patches of skin

I am 39 years old and have been taking ortho tricyclen for years. I have dark patches of skin on my face but have recently noticed that they are more dominate now. By this I mean that I have more of them and they are more pronounced. Is this normal? Do the patches get worse the longer you take the pill? Is there anything I can use to make them not so noticeable? Thanks for any help you can provide.

AskDocWeb: Dark patches of skin (melasma) on the face is one of the side effects of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. There are many over the counter products you can use that will help lighten these spots. Ask your pharmacist for a local recommendation. Using a sunscreen daily will help prevent them from getting worse. Read more feedback
