Subj: Any way to stop my period?
Date: 2/3/2009
I have been taking trinessa for almost two months, I have a formal function that I need to attend next week and guess what I’m starting the green pills, is there anyway to stop my period or prolong my period from coming. I really don’t want to have to wear a ball grown knowing that I’m on my period. I read other peoples comments who stated that skipping the green pills does not work is there anyway to stop my period?
Jessica
AskDocWeb: Sorry Jessica, there isn’t any way that we would recommend.
Subj: More fertile?
Date: 2/5/2009
Hello, I started Ortho Tri-Cyclen about a month ago. But I am four/five days into my green pills and I have yet to start my period. A few days ago I noticed a slight pink tint when I wiped after using the restroom but only that once. Today, I experienced light pink/brown discharge. I am a little worried. I had unprotected sex about three weeks ago but I have had unprotected sex before being put on birth control and have never gotten pregnant. Is it possible that the birth control pills made me more fertile?
Jess
AskDocWeb: There have been a few reports of pill failure but nothing to indicate that Ortho Tri-Cyclen® might make anyone more fertile.
Subj: Spotting
Date: 2/6/2009
I just started taking ortho tri-cyclen bcp for 2 weeks and I have been spotting a lot, mostly looks brown, I don’t know why. I just started spotting about 4 or maybe 5 days ago, and that’s the only side effect I have, is this okay to continue like this? And my period isn’t supposed to start until like the 14th of this month, February. ??
Lea
AskDocWeb: Spotting and breakthrough bleeding are common when changing from one birth control pill to another.
Subj: Breast are sore
Date: 2/8/2009
I’ve been on ortho tri-cyclen regular for 22 days, I’m 16 years olds, and only a 34B. I have notice my breast are sore. Will my breast get bigger?
Bigger?
AskDocWeb: At 16 you still have a lot of growing to do so it is quite likely that they will get bigger.
Subj: Horrible headaches
Date: 2/9/2009
I have been on Orth-Tri-cyclen for about the past 4 months. I have been taking it regularly and my period has been on time each month. But, since the second month I have been taking this, I have had horrible headaches at least 3 times a week. Is this normal? Should I switch to something else? Or does the headaches go away? Thanks!
Kara
AskDocWeb: Although headaches may occur from time to time, it is not normal to have horrible headaches 3 times a week. Please check with your doctor.
Subj: Antibiotic
Date: 2/9/2009
I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for 2 months now, at the exact same time every day (8:45 AM on the dot!!) I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend two days ago. This morning around noon I started an antibiotic, “Macrobid”, for a very minor bladder infection. I have only taken one pill so far. I am supposed to ovulate in three days: that is five days from when I had unprotected sex, so the sperm could still be alive, right? Since I have been taking the pill normally, and have not had sex WHILE on the antibiotic (just before), will it still increase my chances of pregnancy (assuming I do not have intercourse again) by allowing my body to ovulate in three days?
Nicolep
AskDocWeb: According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine those using birth control pills should employ additional barrier techniques of birth control during antibiotic therapy and for at least 1 week beyond the last dose of antibiotics. There is no mention of any concern about an increased risk of pregnancy in situations such as yours.
Subj: Swollen finger joints
Date: 2/9/2009
I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen and a few weeks after starting I began having trouble with my joints. First a finger and then most of them. Swelling and pain all around the joint. Within a matter of days most of my finger joints were swollen. They still are. But now some other joints are bothering me. Could this birth control effect my joints in this way?
Toni
AskDocWeb: Yes it could and this is something you should report to your doctor.
Subj: Strange bloating and cramping
Date: 2/9/2009
I’ve been taking it for about 5 months now and for some reason I’m scared I could be pregnant. I have a strange bloating and cramping but I don’t get my period for two more weeks :/ is that normal?
Sammy
AskDocWeb: As long as you are taking it every day and not missing any then the chance of pregnancy is extremely low. If over-the-counter Tylenol or Midol doesn’t relieve the discomfort of cramps then see your doctor.
Subj: Haven’t got my period

Subj: Trying to lose weight
Date: 2/10/2009
Is it possible to continue weight loss while starting on Ortho-TriCyclen? I’ve just started this week, and I’m currently trying to lose weight. Will the pill sabatoge my weight loss? Thanks!
Laura
AskDocWeb: Just because there is a possibility of that happening doesn’t mean that it will be true for you, some women have lost weight after starting this pill.
Subj: Breast tenderness
Date: 2/11/2009
I have been taking ortho tri-cyclen lo now for almost five years. I take it faithfully. I have an alarm set on my cell phone so that I can make sure that I take it at the exact time every day. I haven’t missed a pill EVER. Also, for the most part I havent experienced any side effects while on this pill either. No weight gain, no moodiness, or acne. Here recently though I have been experiencing breast tenderness. I know this is normal for someone who has just started the pill but I’ve been taking it for almost five years now. Is there a reason that I would be getting breast tenderness after taking it for so long?
Cheryl
AskDocWeb: Side effects can show up anytime while you are on this (or any other) pill. It can be due to the normal changes in the body over time. If the tenderness becomes a concern, check with your doctor.
Subj: Gained 30 pounds
Date: 2/13/2009
Ever since I have started this birth control I have gained 30 pounds. I hate that. I am wondering if I should switch birth controls, so I wont gain any more. I am dieting and excercising. So we will see if that will help me loose the weight. But I just dont want the birth control to prevent me from loosing the weight. What do you think I should do?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: You might talk this over with your doctor and tell him how important the issue of weight gain is for you.
Subj: Is it possible to get pregnant?
Date: 2/15/2009
I have recently gotten my health insurance back & I got back on birth control. I had ortho tri cyclen low b4 & I loved it so I’m on it again. My question is about getting pregnant. I was wondering if it’s possible to get pregnant within the first 4 days on the white pills?
Shani
AskDocWeb: That depends on which start you go by, Sunday start or Day 1. Those who use the Sunday start are instructed to use a back-up form of birth control for the first seven days because of the possibility of getting pregnant during that time. Those who use the Day 1 start need no back-up form of birth control because they are starting at the beginning of their period.
Subj: Postpartum
Date: 2/16/2009
After having my child I was not so blessed with postpartum. it took about 6 months to get everything panned out. I am stable and on 25 mg of Zoloft only. I also have the paragard IUD. After that was placed, I developed panic disorder and that’s when all the postpartum horror came. 3 years later…I have started having a period every 2-3 weeks so I went to my doctor he put me on ortho tri cyclen LO….I’m afraid to take it because I don’t want any of my past experiences to come back. Does anyone have any suggestions advice or stories of comfort?

Subj: Morning after pill?
Date: 2/18/2009
I am currently on Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo, can it be used as the morning after pill?
Ena
AskDocWeb: No, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo will NOT work as a morning after pill.
Subj: Has this happened to anyone?
Date: 2/19/2009
I have been on Ortho Lo for years and my doctor made a mistake and faxed in the wrong prescription. So I received Ortho Tri Cylen instead of the lo. I have been on them for 2 weeks and have become a totally different person. I’m angry most of the time. I can be in a great mood, then snap. I am hateful to my husband and he doesn’t know what to do with me. Has this happened to anyone? I am getting off of the Ortho and getting back on the Lo to see if that helps.
Kristin
Subj: Skin cleared up
Date: 2/20/2009
My skin has cleared up tons on ortho tri spectrim and I was wondering how long till its completely clear.
Bri
AskDocWeb: It is likely that you will see the maximum benefit to the skin by the end of the fourth month.
Subj: Is there a chance?
Date: 2/22/2009
I missed my Ortho Tri Cyclen Pill for four hours the same day my boyfriend came inside of me. I took the pill though after those four hours. My boyfriend and I are freaking out. Is there a chance I could be pregnant?
Kirsty
AskDocWeb: There is a very small chance but not enough to freak out about the possibility of being pregnant. Read more feedback
