Just started the pill

Hi Ive been on Ortho tri cyclen for almost 3 weeks. I had my period a couple days before I started the pill and it did not stop it. It lasted constant for 2 weeks and I am still bleeding off and on. Also the cramps are horrible and Ive was sick vomiting for the first week. Is this normal?

AskDocWeb: Well, that does not sound like the typical response when starting this oral contraceptive. Hopefully you told your doctor about this. Anytime symptoms are severe or do not go away tell your doctor.

Unprotected sex

What color pill is it safe to have unprotected sex on (ejaculating inside)? I’m in the light blue now, I probably have 3 or 4 more left to take. Will I get pregnant on that color? Which one is it safe to do anything on? Note: I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for 3 months.

AskDocWeb: As you may know there are certain times of the month that are fertile and other times that you are not fertile. The pills that you take are different colors for those different times. Taking one pill a day as per instructions provides you with birth control all month long. Now that you are on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo you don’t have to abstain from sex because of the pill color.

Weird period

I have a question about the ortho tri cyclen lo birth control pill.. i have been on it for 8 months now and ive had normal periods up until this last time, i didnt start spotting until the third to last placebo pill then lightly bled then when it was time for the new pack.. the first pill i all of a sudden stopped bleeding. ive had unprotected sex several times this month and i already have a son. could i be pregnant due to this one weird period? i still have slightly tender breasts, some moodiness and im still bloated. i dont understand. i have not taken a pregnancy test due to me slightly bleeding for a period and they always say you cant be pregnant with spotting or bleeding..

AskDocWeb: It is true that you cannot be pregnant and have a period at the same time. Once you conceive your body starts producing hCG and your menstrual cycle stops. This is not to say that you cannot have bleeding that resembles a period when you are pregnant, but that bleeding is not actually a period. This is why some women claim to have had a period while they were pregnant.

Sometimes an egg gets fertilized but because of genetic problems with it, your body prevents it from implanting to protect you. This is called a chemical pregnancy. It often results in a late and lighter period. Because the egg got fertilized, your body produces hCG and that can cause breast tenderness (this is also the hormone that produces a positive on a pregnancy test).

Any time you have bleeding and suspect that you might be pregnant you should discuss it with your doctor.

My sex drive is off

I’ve been on orthro tricyclen lo for 3 months. My sex drive in the past 2 weeks has been off. I haven’t been able to orgasm. My face stays broken out. Should I stop takin and ask my doctor?

AskDocWeb: In general it is more appropriate to ask your doctor “before” discontinuing any prescription drug. The loss of sex drive appears to be common with the use of oral contraceptive drugs.

Lost a white pill

I dropped and lost one of the white pills is it OK to double up one two blue pills it was the last day of the white ones?

Could I be pregnant again?

I recently stopped taking ortho tro cyclen lo over a month ago. My period is currently late and has never been before. I have been on this pill for about a year and before that was the mirena iud for about 4 months after having my son.
With ortho tri cyclen lo towards the end I started to experience pregnancy symptoms, then 2 weeks after I stopped it my areolas got darker, I have developed spider veins on my legs and breasts, bloating, constipation, urinating more now that I missed a period and of course moodiness. I took a test a day before the 28 day mark after my withdrawal bleed and it came back negative. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex before and once after my withdrawal bleed. Are these symptoms normal or could I be pregnant again?

AskDocWeb: Yes, there is a chance that you may be pregnant again. Any time you have unprotected sex you are putting yourself at risk for pregnancy.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and immune system

I have been taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo for about 7 months now. I used to have a great immune system and rarely get sick, but within the past 6 months I’ve gotten sick almost every month. By sickness I mean colds, sinus infections, and now possibly the flu. Can taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo weaken you’re immune system?

Pink discharge

So I just had a baby in November and my doctor gave me Trinessa in mid December. I had my first period obviously and started taking it. I haven’t been very exact on taking it at the same time everyday and now I’m almost finished with my second pack and still no period and I’ve had unprotected sex. These past few days I’ve had a pink like discharge. What could this mean?

AskDocWeb: There are several reasons for a pink discharge, which are common in many women. Here are the top six:

1. Ovulation: If a pink discharge is caused by ovulation it generally occurs about two weeks after the last menstrual period. The ovarian follicle ruptures when the egg is released, which allows some blood to escape from the vagina. Such bleeding usually lasts for a couple of hours and is minor. This pink discharge is nothing to be afraid of because it’s the sign of your fertility.

2. Implantation: Between one and two weeks after an egg has been fertilized, the egg implants itself into the lining of the uterine wall. This implantation causes a pink discharge in approximately 30% of women and may be an early sign of conception.

3. Menstruation: When your body releases an unfertilized egg at the beginning of a menstrual period, this may show up as a pink spotting. This is why many women confuse the beginning of menstruation with implantation bleeding caused by pregnancy. So what’s the difference? Implantation bleeding lasts more than one day. Premenstrual bleeding typically involves a heavier menstrual flow.

4. Infections: In rare cases infection of the uterus, vagina, cervix, fallopian tubes or ovaries may result in a pink discharge. If you have ruled out menstruation, ovulation and pregnancy then it may be caused by a sexually transmitted disease.

5. Afterbirth Bleeding: After giving birth it is common to have pink vaginal discharges. This bleeding is very similar to a very heavy period and usually lasts for several days after the delivery. If you keep experiencing heavy bleeding and very severe pain in the week after giving birth then seek medical attention.

6. Contraceptives: Spotting and bleeding between periods is not unusual when using contraceptives pills or an implant to prevent pregnancy. Why? Because these contraceptives not only help to control conception but they also disrupt the menstrual cycle.
