Dandruff
Date: 2/13/2014
I’ve been using Tri Cyclen Lo for over a year & ever since I started using it, I’ve had to worst dandruff of my life. I’ve done EVERYTHING I could do to try to get rid. I’ve used every dandruff shampoo, coconut oil, dandruff oil, all of it but nothing works. Any suggestions? I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you!

Kaitlyn

AskDocWeb: If you have tried all the home remedies without success, maybe it’s time to see a specialist. Have you considered consulting with a dermatologist? It is possible and common to have health problems that are unrelated to your birth control pills.

Atorvastatin
Date: 4/7/2014
Im in ortho tri cyclen lo ans I was wondering if if my coloestrol med if interfere with my birth control my colesterol meds are called atorvastatin 20 mg tablet

Taylar

AskDocWeb: There is a potential for a drug interaction so talk to you doctor about this. It may be possible to use them together with monitoring.
Technical answer: Using atorvastatin while taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo will increase the level or effect of ethinylestradiol by P-glycoprotein (MDR1) efflux transporter.

Depo Provera
Date: 4/9/2014
I took three shots of depo provera and it was horrible constant depression and bleeding i would bleed for three weeks straight then get a week off and start bleeding again for two weeks or so somtimes up to a month. when it came to that my gyo would give regular birth control pills to try and stop the bleeding it would work after a week or so the bleeding would stop only to come back a week later again. i lost about 10 pounds while on depo so i started doing more research on depo provera and the effects it has on your body during and after so decided to switch to orth- tri cyclen 28. i am on my second week the blue pills at first my skin seemed to clear up but resently its been braking out and i started spotting about 12 days ago now the bleeding hasnt stop i guess its just my body getting use to this new hormoe hopefully it will stop but so far im hating it makes me think im still on depo with the continius bleeding.

How long will it stay in my system?
Date: 4/14/2014
I started tri cyclen lo this cycle. I’m on the light blue pills and have experienced sever headaches everyday. I know it’s one of the side effects but I want to stop the pill and my question is if I stop the pill how long until the headaches go away and how long will it stay in my system.

Cece

AskDocWeb: The half-life ranges from 12 to 30 hours. As a general rule it takes about 5 half-lives for the body to eliminate a drug to the point where it no longer has a detectable effect on that body. Using that rule of thumb the best case would be two and a half days and in the worst case, just over six days (6.25 days).

Terrified of getting pregnant
Date: 4/24/2014
Hi, I’ve been on ortho tri cyclen for 10 months now. I am pretty consistent with taking my pill everyday at the same time. Just recently my boyfriend and I had sex without a condom, he didn’t cum in me but I do know about the pre ejaculation. I am terrified of getting pregnant. Anyway my questions are, do you think I should take plan b? Or will I be ok?

Nervous

AskDocWeb: Although it’s a good idea to use a backup form of birth control anytime you think you might be at risk, this refers to barriers and spermicides. Plan B has social and religious concerns. Hopefully you have considered the issue of abortion and where you stand on it. Plan B does not prevent conception but is believed to prevent the fertilized egg from attaching to the womb. This results in an abortion.

Also note that the hormones in Plan B can delay or advance your period by a few days so if you use it you may have unexpected spotting, breakthrough bleeding, or your period may show up late.

Please see Antibiotics and Plan B on page 137.

Breast enlargement and tenderness
Date: 7/9/2014
I have been using this bc for about 3 months now. I am experiencing pregnant like symptoms. My breasts are very tender and seems to have grown. I do feel that I have more energy, and my moods have been fine. I do feel some bloating as well. Is breast tenderness normal with this birth control?

Ariel

AskDocWeb: Although the incident rate is not known breast enlargement and tenderness are known possible side effects of this birth control pill.

Rapid heart rate and palpitations
Date: 7/13/2014
Hi, I stopped taking my ortho tricyclen mid pack. About 4 days after stopping it I experienced rapid heart rate and palpitations. Also hot flashes and feeling like I am going to faint(lightheaded). Could this be from stopping the pills? Maybe my hormones are trying to adjust? My resting heart rate is between 85-105. It is usually in the 50’s-60’s. Went to the er and they did ekg, ct scan, and blood work and said my heart was fine.

Nikki

AskDocWeb: That sounds like it was pretty scary and except for the hot flashes makes us think of a panic attack. Rapid heart rate, hot flashes and palpitations are not known to be side effects of discontinuing Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

Spotting
Date: 7/16/2014
Is is possible to go from generic brand to the brand name and have spotting from doing so?

Cindy

AskDocWeb: Sorry Cindy, it appears that particular possibility has not been studied in clinical trials.

Just started Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo
Date: 8/17/2014
I just began Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo after not being on birth control for about 5 years, I’m on day 4 now. I’m in a long distance relationship and he should visit around 2 weeks from now, possibly three. I’m guessing I’ll be okay. As long as I’m taking the pill correctly which I am doing. I just want to be sure I’ll be protected because I do want to not worry.

Victoria

AskDocWeb: You are correct, according to the drug data sheet you will have the full protection that the pill provides.

Trying to conceive
Date: 9/12/2014
Hello I’m 26 and my boyfriend is 36. I was on birth control for over 5yrs. I stop taking my birth control last year around July. We have been trying to conceive within the last couples of months. Usually how long does it take to conceive with being on birth control that long. Does my boyfriend’s age have anything to do with it also?

Meme

AskDocWeb: At 36 your boyfriend’s age is not a factor. There may be some delay in getting pregnant after stopping the oral contraceptive, especially if your menstrual cycle was irregular before starting the pill. However, about 85% of women not using any birth control become pregnant with one year.

Drug interactions?
Date: 4/17/2015
Will taking Equate Allergy Relief and Nyquil Severe lower the effectiveness of Ortho Tri-Cyclen?

Jazz

AskDocWeb: While there are minor drug interactions possible, neither product is known to lower the effectiveness of Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
