Cheap tests?
Date: 5/14/2015
I have been on orthro tri cyclen since I was 16, I’m 26 now. My husband and I want to have a baby, but I haven’t had a period in four months and never had any withdrawal bleeding. I took a test a couple months ago and another last week both beg. (they were cheap test though, does that matter?)

AskDocWeb: Check the package insert to find the accuracy of your test. Generally speaking the accuracy of most brands of pregnancy tests tends to be around 99%. And just to be sure, double check that you are following the directions correctly. The accuracy of the home pregnancy test results depend on how well you follow the directions and interpret the results.
Taking Ortho Tri cyclen lo
Date: 7/24/2015
I’ve been on Ortho Tri cyclen lo for now 3 months.. the first two months I’ve always taken it either on time or within at least 1-2 hours because of my hectic schedule with work hut i have never missed a day. Now starting the 3rd month I changed the time to an earlier one to take it on time and I have been doing so.. my boyfriend and I had sex and he ejaculated in me on the 4th day of the first week of the active pills. I’m going crazy because of all I hear about this pill and this is my first ever being on a birth control pill. Am I protected?
Ali
AskDocWeb: From your description it appears that you have the maximum protection that this oral contraceptive provides. Now take a deep breath and relax. Remember that any concern about your birth control can be discussed with your doctor, your doctor’s nurse and sometimes your pharmacist is also helpful regarding side effects.
Terrible breakouts
Date: 11/9/2015
I am 36 years old. When I was 21, I lost my right ovary due to a cyst that grew and bled into my ovary. After surgery, my gyno place me on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I gained 15 lbs right off the bat, but I was eating ridiculous amounts of horrible food. Then, after 3 months, I started working out, eating healthier and I noticed 2 things: my skin cleared up and was radiant and I lost weight! I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about a year. Unfortunately at that age, I was getting ready for my wedding and thought that I would lose even more weight if I switched to a lower dose birth control (Loestrin) pill.
At first it was fine with no side effects. Then, little by little my skin started breaking out. Long story, short…I’ve battled terrible breakouts for the last 14 years and have tried antibiotics and accutane – big mistake. I’m now just learning about the differences in birth control and that Microgestin (generic Loestrin) has a higher progesterone that promotes androgen activity = breakouts. Now in my older age, I’m realizing that it’s totally hormone related.
I’m meeting with a new gyno today and I’m wondering if Ortho Tri-Cyclen will work for me as it once (even after 14 years, a child, etc.) did or would Yasmin be a better choice? Please weigh in. I’m excited to start my new birth control, hoping it helps and I will post once I begin my new journey.
Jessica
AskDocWeb: Congratulations on breaking out of a 14 year rut and trying something new. Sometimes you just have to try one or the other to find out how well it works due to the differences in each individual’s body chemistry. Good luck.
Menopause
Date: 1/14/2016
I am 44 and have been premenopausal for about five years now. My doctor put me on Ortho Tri-Cyclen to regulate my periods which were very sporadic. I was on fro a month and a half, sick the whole time and so depressed that it made menopause feel like a cake walk. I gained ten pounds also. I stopped three days ago and my mood is already improving. Im hoping that these extra pounds will start dropping.
One upside is that perimenopause brought on adult acne which I haven’t had since I was a teen and this did seem to take care of that but I was so sick that it felt like being pregnant again. At least without these pills when my period finally does show up I will feel good for a bout a week after. and Im ok with that for now.

How long to wait before having sex
Date: 3/18/2016
How long should I wait before having unprotected sex while taking Tricira Lo Tablets (birthcontrol)?
Danielle
AskDocWeb: The amount of time you need to use a back-up method of birth control depends several factors; when in your cycle you started taking them, whether or not you are switching from another oral contraceptive, etc. so talk to your doctor for advice specific to your situation.
Ortho tri cyclen, Zoloft and missed period
Date: 5/17/2016
My girlfriend has been on Ortho tri cyclen birth control for about 3 months and on Zoloft for about 2 weeks and has missed her period by 3 days now. We are extremely terrified of pregnancy. Does the two drugs counteract each other in any way? Also why has she missed her period? Thanks
Dylan
AskDocWeb: We found no interactions between Ortho Tri-Cyclen and Zoloft in our database. Missing a period when babies aren’t on the agenda can be a real cause for concern but there are a few things that can cause that other than pregnancy. Number one on that list is stress and being terrified of pregnancy is certainly stressful. In other words, an overwhelming fear of pregnancy can cause a missed period. Other things that are known to cause a missed period include illness, major weight loss, excessive exercise, change in schedule, medication, breastfeeding, thyroid disorder, perimenopause, and hormonal imbalance.
