Subj: Tri-Sprintec 28
Date: 12/11/2006
I have been on ortho tri-cyclen for a long time, and recently the doc prescribed gave me something called Tri-Sprintec 28. I wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with this new one. I was happy on the ortho tri cyclen. And don’t really want to switch but already have it, and can’t get to the doc in time. Is this sprintec just as good? And are there any side effects? Sometimes I get chest pain, but I have no health insurance so I can’t really do much about it.
Cynthia
AskDocWeb: Tri-Sprintec is just a generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
Subj: Forgot to take a middle pill
Date: 12/11/2006
I forgot to take one of the middle pills when I was on my period. is it true that they are just sugar pills? Should I be worried that I forgot to take it?
Dez
AskDocWeb: No, there are no active ingredients in them. Their purpose is to maintain your habit of taking your pills every day.
Subj: Yasmin or Ortho-Lo?
Date: 12/11/2006
I have been on Ortho-Lo now for probably 6-8 months. I wanted a birth control that would help with breakouts as well as cramps and mood swings. I have noticed that I have become very moody on it but also feel as though it is getting better. I went to my OB/GYN and asked to be switched to something else. She switched me to Yasmin but I am scared to take it because I have not heard good things about it. On top of that it is extremely expensive! What should I do? Try Yasmin or stick to Ortho-Lo?
Morgan
AskDocWeb: If your moods develop into crying spells or depression then ask your doctor about changing. We suggest you voice your concerns to your OB/GYN and use that doctor as a resource to decide what to do. And if you feel uncomfortable with Yasmin, then do not take it, you have a choice.
Subj: Bleeding for the past month
Date: 12/11/2006
I have been bleeding constantly for this whole month. I missed taking my pill in the morning one day but I took it that night and I have not stopped bleeding yet. What can I do to make it stop? My boyfriend comes home soon. I really don’t want to be bleeding then, what can I do, can you please help me? I have been bleeding for the past month. I don’t know what happened but I want to know how to make it stop. I am on ortho tri-cyclen lo and I know that I forgot to take my pill one morning but I took it that night and now I just want to know how to make it stop bleeding. Thanks. Please I really need your help.
Jessica
AskDocWeb: It sounds like you need to see your physician. This should not be happening, even if you were off by several hours, there may be something else going on here. It could be the Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo doing this but you need to find out if it is something else.
Subj: Ortho lo and acne
Date: 12/12/2006
My doctor has put me on Ortho lo. Will this be as effective against acne as the Ortho Tricyclen? Also, should I expect weight gain on Ortho lo?
Terin
AskDocWeb: No, Ortho lo is not meant to help with acne but may cause more acne problems. And yes, you can expect to gain 15-20 pounds with any birth control pill.
Subj: Ortho-Tri Cyclene Lo, nervous and easily irritated
Date: 12/12/2006
I’ve been on Ortho-Tri Cyclene Lo for about 4 years. I have noticed that in the second week of the pack I am very nervous and worry about alot of things, then in the third week I am easily irritated. Is this because of the pill and is there any other pill I could take that will not do this?
Kelly
AskDocWeb: Since many others have reported the same symptoms, they may be due to the pill. There are so many other pills out there to choose from, we suggest you discuss this with your doctor and let him choose the best one for you.
Subj: Anxious to get pregnant again
Date: 12/13/2006
My husband and I want to start trying to another baby, I stopped taking my pill a week ago and are anxious to get pregnant again. Is there anything that I should look out for such as not getting pregnant right away?
Kristy
AskDocWeb: Your periods may be abnormal for up to three months but once they get regular again, everything will go as planned.
Subj: Ortho Tri Cyclen LO
Date: 12/13/2006
I wish people would be more specific on here! there are several reviews that only mention their pills as “ortho” and there’s a HUGE difference between ortho tri cyclen reg, and ortho lo. I was on ortho low for a few months about a year ago, but talked to my doctor and switched because it was making me break out even MORE. Usually I only get them around the chin every now and then, but ortho LO made me break out more. Lately I’ve been breaking out on the cheeks and really small ones on the nose. I’m not on any BC right now and since I’ve never broken out in those places its REALLY irritating. One theory is that soy milk was making me break out because it increases the level of estrogen in your system. I stopped drinking it about 2 weeks ago, and I know it takes a month or two for your hormones to re-regulate themselves, so I still am not sure if the soy milk was the culprit yet. Anyway I’m about to start ortho-tri (REG NOT LO) and I’m hoping that will help clear my skin up… although after reading some of the reviews on this site I’m kinda scared to start taking it! Unfortunately as I said before many reviewers failed to mention which ortho they were talking about… so hopefully I’ll be fine. I’ll come back and write a review when I start ortho reg.

Subj: Hair loss
Date: 12/13/2006
I was on ortho for several years, then switched to tri nessa, but now I have been off for about 4 months. I am 23 and experiencing a lot of hair loss. Now they say I may or may not get my hair back??? Will the loss stop? The tiny booklet in the pill pack says in tiny letters that you may experience hair loss that I figured would be temporary if at all…now I am wondering if I will have any hair at all.
Courtney
AskDocWeb: The good news is that the hair loss will stop. The bad news is, unfortunately, the hair you have already lost may or may not grow back, let’s hope it does.
Subj: Feel horrible on Ortho low
Date: 12/13/2006
I have been on the pill for about 6 years. First I was on Ortho Tricyclen, then I went on Yasmin, but that gave me terrible headaches. Before I got married I went on Ortho low. I feel just yuck all of the time. I have gained about 15-20 pounds. Sometimes I fluctuate 5 pounds. I feel puffy daily. When I exercise and diet, it doesn’t make much difference and takes forever to lose 3 pounds. I get very depressed at different times, and I just cry and feel horrible about myself. Is it Orth low or is it my imagination? I want to stop taking the pill completely, but my husband is worried about an unplanned pregnancy. I worry that since I have been on a pill for so long, that it will take longer to get pregnant once I get off of them. My husband and I decided that I would stop taking it in May, but I just feel like I can’t take it anymore. I also want to lose the 20 pounds I have put on before becoming pregnant, and I can’t do that while on the pill. What should I do for birth control?
Nat
AskDocWeb: Your weight gain is typical for those on birth control pills and as you may know, there are side effects with any birth control pill. If you seem to be depressed about things other than the weight gain then you might want to talk to your doctor about an alternative birth control, or an anti-depressant for a short-term solution until May. Becoming pregnant after you get off the pill is not likely to be a problem.
Subj: Returning to normal cycle
Date: 12/13/2006
I’m trying to find out if it’s normal to have a 38 day cycle after discontinuing Ortho Tri Cyclen. I was on Desogen years ago, then had my first child. I was back on Desogen after her birth, but was having hormonal PMS issues, so I was put on OTC. I’ve been on that for about 2 years and we’re ready for another pregnancy. I’ve been off OTC for 2 months and have apparently started a 38 day cycle. Will this return to 28 days? I’ve never been irregular before so it has me concerned.
Maureen
AskDocWeb: Yes, this will probably return to a normal cycle in another month, if it doesn’t consult with your GYN.
Subj: Wet slippery discharge
Date: 12/13/2006
I have been taking Ortho-Lo for about 2 months. I just began my new month 4 days ago and I think I am ovulating- (I have the wet slippery discharge I had before birth control right before my period – which I always thought was ovulation. Is it? And if it is, can’t I get pregnant????
Jennifer
AskDocWeb: Since it is possible to bleed without having a period, you should visit your doctor to find out what is happening.
Subj: Am I pregnant?
Date: 12/13/2006
I’ve been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo for about a year in a half and I’ve been wondering I’ll take all of my pills right and I’ve been noticing that I wont start my period for 2-4 days later then I’m suppose to I usually start on a Tuesday but I wont start till Thursday or Friday now I’m back in school could it be stress or am I pregnant?
Chelsea
AskDocWeb: No, you’re probably not pregnant, more likely your cycle has just changed because of the stress.
Subj: Missed periods
Date: 12/13/2006
I bought a prescription of orthro tri-cyclen from an online pharmacy. I’ve been on birth control before. I’m ready to start my new birth control, but I haven’t had my period for about two months now. I know I’m not pregnant, I believe it’s stress causing my missed period. I was wondering if I started my pills without having my period if it would be ok? I thought maybe it could help regulate my period again.
Christina
AskDocWeb: No, you are suppose to start the pills when your period starts. It could be stress but you should visit your doctor to make sure everything is okay.
Subj: Possibility of being pregnant?
Date: 12/13/2006
I started taking ortho lo BCP like a week and a half ago, I’m on day 11. I was suppose to start Sunday but wasn’t home and just took 2 at the same time Monday at 9pm. I had unprotected sex with my fiancee on day 11. Is there any possibility I could be pregnant because I started the pills late??? I’m a little worry, please, any feedback on this?
Elizabeth
AskDocWeb: Yes, it is possible since you’ve only been on the pills for a week and a half. That wasn’t long enough to establish maximum protection before you started having sex.
Subj: Menstrual flow has yet to start
Date: 12/14/2006
I have mistakenly started my first pack when I was spotting. I thought I was having my period. I spotted for two days and it disappeared. It’s been 6 days since taking the pill and no normal menstrual flow has yet to start. Is there something wrong or is this considered a missed period. What do I do?
Dianne
AskDocWeb: The first step is to make sure that you are not pregnant. You could do two home pregnancy tests, one week apart from each other or visit your doctor to find out for sure. Read more feedback
