Subj: Could I be pregnant?

Hi, I’m 17 years old and took tri-cyclen-lo for 3 months, but then changed to tri-cyclen because I had bad cramps with lo. I have finished my first pack of tri-cyclen and am on the blank pills, on the lo packs I got my period before and into the blank pills, now I am one day into the blanks of my new BC and still haven’t gotten my period. I have watery discharge, and am having to pee alot, I’m scared, I have only taken a pill as late as two hours off the usual time, and only did that once. I have veins on my breasts and they are very tender, could I be pregnant?

AskDocWeb: Yes, there is a vary small but real chance that you could be pregnant. If you think you might be pregnant, use a home pregnancy test, wait a week and use another one.

I’ve been on the pill for about 2 years, a few weeks ago I lost my pills. I was near the end of my pack (maybe a week away) and I got my period. I wasn’t able to start a new pack until 2 weeks later, I started it on Sunday and Monday I had protected sex but the condom broke…lucky me. Do you think there’s a chance I could be pregnant, or do you think because I was on it for 2 years I should be ok.. I’ve continued taking my pills after this has happened, should I take plan B too? Thanks!

I have been using Birth control pills Orto Tri-cyclen Lo for a while, but now I have moved to Europe and can not find the same brand, would you recommend some other pills with similar consistence?

I have been on Ortho Tricyclen Lo for 3 years now. My husband and I are ready to have a baby. I saw my doctor and told me when to stop talking the pills. Once I was off my period came the first month after that it never came. I did not have my period for more than four months. I went back to my doctor and she placed me on the pill again. Once I was back on, my period came. Can Ortho Tricyclen Lo cause infertility?

Well first of all I’ve been on the pill for seven years, if I stop taking them is it really easy for me to get pregnant right away?

Subj: Breast discharge

I’ve been taking OTC since November, but this last month I accidentally dropped the last non-placebo pill into a pile of laundry and couldn’t find it. I haven’t taken any pills since(I lost those too) but I’ve been using condoms. However, I’ve had an upset stomach for several days in a row, my breasts are immensely sore and are often hard for no reason. The skin around the nipples have gotten slightly darker and I have a milky white discharge. Is this all because I stopped taking the pill, or could it be something else?

Hi, I have been on Ortho Lo and now am on Ortho Tricyclin. I noticed with the “lo” pill my periods lasted forever!!! But I also noticed that when I changed to Ortho my periods were still almost as long…(8-9 days). But I recently read in Cosmopolitan that you can double back certain pills or can skip your period for the month altogether. I’m wondering how I can do that and which color pill section not to take. The reason I’m wondering is because I’m going on vacation right around when it should start up again. If you could help me I’d really appreciate it. Thanks,

AskDocWeb: Just because something is possible does not necessarily mean it is desirable. Skipping your period will likely cause misery, discomfort and breakthrough bleeding for the next month. Please discuss this with your doctor before trying anything like that.

My 16 year old daughter was just put on the ortho-tricyclen lo . We both must have misunderstood the doctors instructions about when to start taking it, she said alot of times they tell you to start on the Sunday after your period, but that it really didn’t matter when you started it…she started taking it that same day (her regular period was due to start the following week). She is now having bleeding, cramping and nausea. Should she stop taking it and wait until she stops bleeding to start a new pack or continue with the pack she has?

AskDocWeb: She needs to talk to her doctor to get this straightened out. Unfortunately she probably wasted a whole pack of pills because her doctor will likely have her start a new pack at the appropriate time.

Subj: Major abdominal pain and cramps

Since I have been taking ortho tricyclin, I have been experiencing major abdominal pain followed by cramps. My sides now are beginning to hurt, I cannot go to the bathroom with regular bowel movements or stool. Should I continue to take the pill to see if my body is adjusting slowly or stop taking the pill immediately?

Hi, my name is Jaclyn and I am one of the women who is on ortho-tri-cyclen lo. I have just recently found that I had a dark patch only on my chin. I asked the pharmacist about it and she said it is probably caused by the pill I’m on. So I have a question, is it a real serious thing or no and also how can I make it go away? My pharmacist asked also if I lay out in the sun and I said, yes I do but not that often. What should I do to get rid of it because it is really embarrassing!

AskDocWeb: This happens all the time with women on birth control. You will have to use a 35 or higher sunscreen on your face, and use a pigmentation lightener like Skin Success or Neutrogena. Either will lighten the brown spots and get rid of the red blotches.

Subj: Accidentally started with wrong pill

I just started my second pack of pills…and instead of taking the white pills first, I accidentally started with the light blue pills…what should I do? Please let me know any suggestions. Thank you.

AskDocWeb: You could have stopped the minute you realized you were taking the wrong one and take the correct one the same day. If you didn’t realize until the second day, you could have taken two white pills.

Subj: Weird breakouts

Hi, I just recently started taking Ortho Tri-cyclen lo to regulate my periods. I’m getting towards the end of my first month of using it, but I’m experiencing some weird breakouts. I’m getting these tiny bumps all over my face and sometimes they itch pretty bad. I’m also getting some on my back and they itch as well. As a teenager I had some moderate acne, but this isn’t like normal acne, they don’t actually form a pimple. I do get a little more frustrated than normal too, and I’m usually pretty laid back, but I haven’t experienced any drastic mood changes. Do I need to give it some time? I hear it takes a few months to actually regulate your system. I also feel a little fatigued at times, and I’m getting plenty of sleep. Though, I’m mainly concerned with these little itchy bumps. AskDocWeb: The breakouts on your face and back are not something you should be putting up with over a little birth control pill, consult with your physician about changing.

I am 17, healthy, and I’ve been on tri cyclin for a month but I’m not sure if I’ve been doing it correctly. Was I right to take pill #1 on the first day of my period? I think today I was suppose to go on my period because it was the first day of the green pills, however I didn’t. Please leave anything that would help.

AskDocWeb: The directions say to take the first pill on the Sunday after your period starts. To get straightened out you should talk with your doctor about this.

I have been using Ortho Tri-Cyclen Low for over 6 months. For a few months now when I am on the blue pills which are before the green sugar pills I start my menstrual cycle. I am not “suppose” to start until this Sunday 5/27 which is when I start the green pills, but I started today and I still have three blue pills. Why am I starting my menstrual cycle early before I start the green pills? Also, should I stop taking the pills now that I am on my cycle? The pills do not seem to be working the way they should. AskDocWeb: Several things could change your timing like stress, illness, a change in diet, even exercising can throw things off. Just continue taking the pills as directed.

Subj: Got pregnant while on Ortho Lo

I was taking the “Ortho – Lo” pill for 5 months and got pregnant. The makers of the pill claim that the effectiveness of this pill is the same as the regular “Ortho” pill. After talking to a group of about 10 other women, we all came to the same conclusion” The “Lo” pill is not as effective as the regular pill. Every single one of us got pregnant (some more than once) on the “Lo” pill but those who then switched to the regular pill after giving birth did not get pregnant. I don’t know what kind of clinical studies the company has really done, but all I know is I cannot find these clinical studies and every woman I’ve ever talked to who was on this pill became pregnant. It’s hurtful to know this company would lie about the effectiveness of their pill.
