Subj: Breast tenderness
Date: 7/12/2007
I started Ortho Lo a few days ago, since I started, I had headaches a few days which soon went away but one of my breasts is a little sore… Is this normal?

AskDocWeb: Yes, others have written in about breast tenderness too.

Subj: Coarse facial hair?
Date: 7/12/2007
Hi, I have just started Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and I am only up to four pills. I have an embarrassing problem – I have somewhat coarse hair on the sides of my face that I usually tweeze to get rid of. Will my birth control help this problem?

AskDocWeb: Probably not, at least we have never heard of facial hair disappearing because of the use of birth control pills.

Subj: Headaches, hair shedding and very moody
Date: 7/12/2007
I been taking orthotricyclen for 2 1/2 years and seen I started taking pill I notice that I got headache at least 2 to 3 time in a week, and my hair is shedding a lot…I’m also very moody and crazy almost everyday now…I want to know if that is the side effect…

AskDocWeb: It could well be, we suggest consulting with your physician about changing your birth control.

Subj: Get rid of brown patches?
Date: 7/12/2007
I was taking the Ortho Tri-cyclen pill quite a few years back (about 2 or 3 years ago) and was sun tanning. However, I was never warned, given any information about side effects about the brown patches that would occur on my skin. Now I have several (a lot) of brown spots around the outside of my face. Is there any way that I can get rid of these.

AskDocWeb: Yes, you can use a fade cream or a skin lightener. Use of a moisturizer with sunscreen in it will help prevent new brown patches.

Subj: I’m confused
Date: 7/13/2007
Hi, I’m going to start on Tri-nessa. I did research and I’m a scared with all the horrible stories. Do you think trinessa is right for me. I’m confused, I was thinking of taking Ortho try cycline, but some say is good and others bad. God what should I do?

AskDocWeb: Consult with your physician about your concerns and make the choice with the help of your doctor. You don’t have to take anything that makes you uncomfortable.

Subj: Started the pills
Date: 7/13/2007
I justed taking Ortho Tricyclen. I started the pills a few days after my period, taking the 1st white pill just before the green and so on. My doctor says I should use barrier protection for the entire month. My husband and I decided not to use extra protection (pregnancy is not planned, but it is desired if it should happen). Somewhere between the dark blue and the green pills I have spotted twice with bright red blood. Even there was only enough to see one the tissue when I wiped (along with a little mucus, sorry for the details) both times. I am now done with the green and ready to start the white pills again but still have not gotten a period. I took a HPT; negative. Could that have been implantation bleeding? Or, am I over reacting? Thanks in advance.

AskDocWeb: You might be over reacting but do another home pregnancy test to make sure. The first three months of using birth control pills do cause irregularities because your body is getting used to the change in hormones.

Subj: I’d like to get pregnant
Date: 7/13/2007
I’m on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I stopped taking it in March and it is now July. I’d like to get pregnant. How long after getting off the pill are you able to become pregnant?

AskDocWeb: Any time!

Subj: Severe headaches
Date: 7/14/2007
I’ve been on this medication for awhile and now I’m getting severe headaches is this normal?

AskDocWeb: Some women have reported having headaches. You may have to consult with your physician to have him change your birth control pill.

Subj: Protect against pregnancy
Date: 7/15/2007
Hi! I have a question… everyone talk about changing to Try Cyclen LO… but I’m switching to Try Cyclen. How long does it take for this pills to protect me against pregnancy?

AskDocWeb: The manufacturer says 7 days.

Subj: Skipped period
Date: 7/16/2007
I have a question about skipping a period on tricyclen. I recently tried to skip a period by not taking the last week of pills in my pack and starting a new one. I ended up getting my period anyways. I was wondering if I am still protected from pregnancy.

AskDocWeb: Yes.

Subj: Yeast infection
Date: 7/16/2007
I took ortho-tri-cyclin/trinessa for about 10 years and stopped taking it about 2 months because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I used to get yeast infections at least once a year (I figured this was from the pill), but I had a yeast infection last June, one this April and one this June. I figured the one last June was due to my husband and I having sex everyday because we were on our honeymoon, the one in April because I eat yogurt everyday and I hadn’t eaten it for about a month, and the one this June because of my hormonal changes due to stopping the pill. Is this something I should be concerned about?

AskDocWeb: This isn’t uncommon but you may want to have a complete pelvic and pap smear done just to make sure that there’s nothing else going on.

Subj: Went off the pill almost a year ago
Date: 7/16/2007
I was on ortho tri-cyclen for a long time since I was 21. I am 28 now, went off it almost 1 year ago. I was always a 28 days cycle kind of girl before the pill. Now that I am off it and TTC, I am so irregular 3 days late 4 days late this month 6 days as of today late I took a pregnancy test it was negative. I am blaming the pill for everything, why I can’t get pregnant, messing with me each month cause I am so irregular. Best thing is good old fashioned condoms. I wish I never used any form of birth control. My advice if you want to start a family go off the pill 2 years before start using protection so your body can come back. I hope mine gets back to normal soon. Missing periods me thinking I could be pregnant only to find out I am not. It’s getting to me.

Subj: Quit taking Ortho Try cyclen
Date: 7/16/2007
I quit taking Ortho Try cyclen a few weeks ago and was just wondering how long it took for me to start my cycle after getting off of birth control.

AskDocWeb: Everyone is different so it could start any time.

Subj: Should I?
Date: 7/17/2007
I started taking the pill a week after my period. After 5 days I had unprotected sex, and to be sure to prevent pregnancy I took Plan B emergency contraceptive. How should I continue taking the rest of the pills this month? Should I stop and start a new pack when I start my period?

AskDocWeb: The directions say to start a new pack the Sunday after your period starts, even if you are still bleeding.

Subj: Unusual side effects?
Date: 7/17/2007
I unfortunately couldn’t afford my birth control pills after my last period. It has been 2 weeks, no sex and can now afford them. If I start taking them now, when should I expect my period? Will I have any unusual side effects? I have been on a low dose pill consistently for over 10 years.

AskDocWeb: You are supposed to wait until your period starts again. And yes, your period could be irregular for up to three months.

Subj: Pregnant?
Date: 7/17/2007
I have taken ortho trycyclin lo for 2 in a half years now and I quit taking it a month ago and I haven’t started my period but I still have sex and my boyfriend ejaculates in me every time, could this mean that I am pregnant? Or am I likely to get pregnant because I just quit taking the pill?

AskDocWeb: Yes you are probably pregnant because you had unprotected sex. You can’t become pregnant just by stopping the pill, it takes sperm to make you pregnant.

Subj: Was I still protected
Date: 7/18/2007
I have been taking ortho tri-cyclen lo for about 9 months and have recently discontinued taking it. On the last week of taking my pills I had unprotected sex during the inactive green pills, was I still protected from pregnancy even thought I was taking the last green pills and didn’t start another pack after that?

AskDocWeb: In a way, the inactive pills are taken when you are not fertile and couldn’t get pregnant anyway.

Subj: Get period earlier?
Date: 7/19/2007
I am on ortho tri cyclen and want to get my period earlier next month. I started taking my active pill during the 4th day of my inactive pills. Will this decrease the effectiveness of the pill? Please let me know. Thank you.

AskDocWeb: No, it will not decrease the effectiveness of the pill but it will throw off your cycle timing which could result in severe cramping and breakthrough bleeding.

Subj: Skipped the reminder pills
Date: 7/19/2007
I started taking Lo on June 24th. I skipped the reminder pills last week so that I could delay my period for my wedding (august 19th). Its now July 19th and I’ve been bleeding for several days. It’s lighter than normal, but I’m worried this will happen the week of my wedding! Should I switch to another brand or give up entirely?

AskDocWeb: This happens to many women who try to skip a period. Switching to another brand will not stop Mother Nature.

Subj: stopped taking ortho tri cyclen
Date: 7/20/2007
I stopped taking ortho tri cyclen 3 months ago and
have not had a period yet. I have taken a couple pregnancy tests and they have been negative so I
know I am not pregnant. Can it take a while to get regulated again? Is this normal?

AskDocWeb: Yes, this is just your body adjusting to the change in hormone levels. If
you do not start your period in the fourth month after discontinuing birth control pills consult
with your physician.

Subj: Switched pills
Date: 7/20/2007
I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen LO for 4 years and
haven’t missed a period. This month my doctor switched me to Microgestin FE 1/20 and I haven’t got
my period yet? I am 3 days late. I have been sexually active this month. Should I be concerned about
being pregnant? Please advise.

AskDocWeb: As long as you never missed a pill, there should not be a concern. It
takes awhile for the body to get used to the new birth control pill. Read more feedback
