Subj: 10 minutes early or later
Date: 7/24/2007
Right now I am on trinessa, and I was told to take it at the same time every day. Do you think it is okay to take it 10 minutes early or later than my set time? How exact do you have to be?
Angelea
AskDocWeb: Taking it 10 minutes early or later won’t make any difference. It’s when you start getting off by hours that it begins to be a concern.
Subj: Yasmin or orthro tri-cyclen lo?
Date: 7/24/2007
I’m thinking of getting on the pill but I’m not sure which birth control to use…I’m between yasmin or orthro tri-cyclen lo?
Cyndy
AskDocWeb: Either one will be ok, your doctor will recommend the one he thinks is best for you.
Subj: Discontinued birth control but bleeding again
Date: 7/24/2007
I recently had my period about 13 days ago. Then I discontinued my birth control because I would like to conceive but now I am bleeding again. Is this normal after you stop taking your birth control? And how long will it be before the pill is out of my systems.
Kassi
AskDocWeb: Yes, this is normal, most of the pill leaves your system within days but it will take about 3 months for your periods to become regular.
Subj: Doubling up
Date: 7/25/2007
I recently started taking ortho (regular). I left my pills at work over the weekend, and only on the 6th day, I doubled up on Monday and Tuesday. I’m bleeding and cramping, and basically having a period. I had a blood clot today, and I’m a little worried. The doctor told me to double up if I missed, but it was probably too soon to miss, not to mention the first day I doubled up was a white and a blue pill, and the second day, 2 blue pills. Am I ok?
Julie
AskDocWeb: Yes you will be okay but your periods may be irregular for awhile. Please talk to your doctor about doubling up more than once in the same month – not good. A backup form of birth control is recommended.
Subj: Switched
Date: 7/25/2007
I recently switched from ortho tri cyclen to ortho tri cyclen lo. I was wondering if there was any risk of getting pregnant while switching, even if I started it the day after I finished my last pill of the ortho tri cyclen?
Melissa
AskDocWeb: Just because you switched birth control pills is no cause for concern as long as you didn’t miss any pills.
Subj: Very confused
Date: 7/25/2007
Very, very confused! I’ve been on birth control for 3 years and never messed up, but due to college, a new job/boyfriend etc. I accidentally lost my pack, I went and bought a new one and since I couldn’t remember on what day I needed to start I started over that Sunday (Sunday Start). I have NOT had sex at all so I know I’m not pregnant, but on the 2nd day I started(Monday) I had a period and have had one since, I’m now on day 4, and the period is very unusual and very heavy with bad cramps, I am still taking the pills consecutively at the right time, but don’t understand why my period came so early and why it’s alot worse than usual also when is it going top stop?
Jessica
AskDocWeb: It started because you had a break in the use of your pills. This is what happens when your cycle is disrupted.
Subj: Is there something else?
Date: 7/25/2007
Last month I was on Loestrin 24, it made me very depressed, tired, and just feeling blah!! My doctor put me on ortho, I just started it today, and I feel so sick to my stomach, I hate birth control. IS there something else I can use for a form of birthcontrol? Is there another birthcontrol that doesn’t have that many side effects?
Tracy
AskDocWeb: You might ask your doctor about the Nuva ring.
Subj: Lower abdominal cramps
Date: 7/25/2007
Hi, I have been on BC for 9 years (I am currently on generic Ortho tri cyclen). Just this weekend I started to get very minor (almost unnoticeable) lower abdominal cramps. My period is not due for 2 weeks so I am very concerned and I rarely have cramps even when I am on my period. I have a gyno appt. in 3 weeks as well. I had sex this past weekend too and have been with my BF for almost 7 months (sexually active). What could this be, I feel really bloated also. My periods have always been regular and I have had one STD, chlamydia before which was taken care of. Any help?
Isa
AskDocWeb: You could have a cyst on one of your ovaries, please get this checked out.
Subj: Moody, depressed, and anxious
Date: 7/26/2007
I’ve been on tri-cyclen lo for 2 weeks now, and have noticed a definite mood change. I’m moody, cry for no reason, depressed, anxious. I have to pee all the time, and am always exhausted… I feel nauseated after taking it. Does this go away with time?
2 weeks in…
AskDocWeb: It is suppose to go away within the first three months but if it doesn’t then talk with your physician about alternatives.
Subj: Dizziness?
Date: 7/26/2007
I have started taking ortho tricyclen lo for about a month and a half now. My first month was fine, but at the start of my second pack, I’ve been nauseous. I also have been getting dizzy. I have taken 2 pregnancy test and they’ve been negative. Has anyone else experienced any dizziness on birth control pill?
Nika
AskDocWeb: Yes, dizziness is listed as an adverse reaction that should be reported to your doctor.
Subj: I want a sex drive and no acne
Date: 7/27/2007
I started taking Ortho Tri-cyclen when I was 19 and have been off of it for about 3 years now. Coincidentally or not, I have also had acne problems that I have never experienced before (not even in my teens.) I saw a dermatologist and he prescribed doxycycline (also an antimalarial medication), which didn’t work after about a month of taking it, in addition to Duac (and a second) creme twice daily. Anyway, I just went and got another prescription for birth control, and my doctor gave me Ortho Tri-cyclen Lo (because I made a joke that the reason it’s called birth control is because it ensures abstinence by causing me to have ZERO sex drive!) Anyway, to make a long story short: I want a sex drive but I don’t want acne. (I especially don’t want a baby but am happily single at the moment so that slips a notch on my priority list.) Does it always have to be a trade-off?
Lisa
AskDocWeb: A lot of women have a problem with acne while on birth control pills but, it doesn’t always have to be a tradeoff. You could treat the acne as a separate problem and see a specialist about it, like a dermatologist.
Subj: Going to start again
Date: 7/30/2007
If I was on ortho tricyclen lo about 5 years ago to regulate my period with no side effects, will it probably affect me the same way now even if my body has changed a bit? I am going to start it again in a couple of weeks to regulate me again.
Elizabeth
AskDocWeb: More likely than not it will probably be the same as before after you get through the three month adjustment period.
Subj: Horrible moodiness
Date: 7/31/2007
I was on ortho regular for about 8-9 months and stopped because I had horrible moodiness, I was always angry and felt really depressed. The only plus side was that it cleared up my acne (which was the main reason I went on it) and I had shorter and lighter periods. After stopping, my face got a little worse but not much… but I decided to go back on the pill because I am now sexually active. My doctor prescribed the lo version instead. I HATE IT. I will have my period for about 2 weeks and a lot of breakthrough bleeding. Plus my acne came back and much worse! I am going to try and switch back to regular in hopes it will clear my face up again and stop these symptoms. Why are do these versions have such different symptoms?

AskDocWeb: Paxil can cause weight gain. We suggest you consult a neurologist to find out why you have that pain going down your arms and legs.
Subj: Lightheaded and nauseous
Date: 8/1/2007
I have taken Tri-Levelen for many years. The makers have discontinued it. My doctor changed me to ortho-tri-cyclen lo tab. I am on my 17th day. I have been feeling a little lightheaded and a little nauseous. Should I call my doctor to change my pills or will this side affect go away?
Tammy
AskDocWeb: If you feel that the lightheadedness might cause a problem, like with driving, then consult with your physician. Otherwise it should go away.
Subj: Really bad mood swings
Date: 8/4/2007
I am on otho try-lo and I am having really bad mood swings. I keep having headaches all the time and bloating too. I think I just want to get off of it and get back to acting normal. My husband cannot stand my attitude at all. I have been taking them for about 2 months now.
Zgirl
AskDocWeb: Your doctor may want you to wait one more month to see if there are any changes in your symptoms. On the other hand if you think that the side effects are not worth it, you can just tell him you want to change now. Read more feedback
