Phentermine when it works and when it is no longer effective…
Date: 2/17/2013
My history with phentermine is very long. I have been using it for almost 9 years and I had to stop. For those who want to stop. Ask your doctor to prescribe adderall instead, but no more than 20 mg. And slowly stop using it all together. For those who had been using if for a long period of time and now have chronic constipation. STOP using phentermine, chronic constipation is not easy to cure. DRINK a lot of water. DRINK two glasses when you wake up then have coffee or tea.

When you stop phentermine you have to be aware of the facts; you will probably gain about 5 pounds. You have to control your cravings, therefore; no orange or any other juices. No sweets. It will take you a few days to get used to it once phentermine is out of your system. And yes for two three days you may not go to the bathroom and have horrible bloating, but do not think it will be a prolonged situation. 2-3 days after first full 24 hours when you stop phentermine. Phentermine is a good drug but you can’t be on it for a long time. I have made that mistake myself.

Can you take Phentermine 37.5mg when on Warfarin? I am taking 10mg. daily and want to be sure it is okay.

Patty

AskDocWeb: While we didn’t find any drug interactions listed, you would still have to check with your doctor to find out if that combination would be safe for your unique situation.

Concerned about heart
Date: 2/19/2013
I just went to the doctor and was prescribed this medicine. I want to take it. And of course only half a tablet like the doc told me, but I’m nervous about starting it. I’m more concerned about my heart racing and me having a heart attack. I’m 28, 193lbs. How many people aprox have reported this as a problem and have had to go to the doctor over it?

Sheila

AskDocWeb: Up to 2.4% report heart palpitations and up to 2.1% report some kind of chest discomfort. Keep in mind that a racing, pounding heart or fluttering in your chest are warning signs to stop taking this medication and call your doctor at once.

Serotonin syndrome?
Date: 2/21/2013
I need to lose 50lbs and was just given phentermine hcl. I am also on a low dose of lexapro and am wondering about the serotonin syndrome mentioned. Since I am on a low dose will it be okay?

JA

AskDocWeb: The symptoms of serotonin syndrome (SS) often begin within hours of taking a new medication or after increasing the dose of one that you are already taking. Symptoms to watch for include:

  • Confusion
  • Agitation or restlessness
  • Dilated pupils
  • Headache
  • Changes in blood pressure and/or temperature
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Loss of muscle coordination or twitching muscles
  • Shivering and goose bumps
  • Heavy sweating

In severe cases, SS can be life-threatening. If you experience any of these symptoms, you or someone with you should seek immediate medical attention:

  • High fever
  • Seizures
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Unconsciousness

Your doctor will not prescribe Phentermine unless convinced that the known benefits outweigh the possible risks. This is one of the reasons why it is important to inform your doctor about all medication you are taking.
