Questions about Phentermine
Date: 3/23/2014
I started taking Phentermine on March 6th. My doctor had me break a 37.5 pill in half and take for 2 weeks. On the 19th he increased my dose to take the whole pill. I am still breaking it in half and taking half in the morning and the other half in the afternoon because I have a very busy schedule and have to be up at 6:30 am and dont go to sleep until after midnight. I figured by doing that I would have the appetite supression last me longer.
First question, is it ok for me to split the pill in half to take it? I think I read somewhere that you arent supposed to chew, crush, or break the pill but my doctor was having me do that so I figured he should know if its ok or not. Also, the pill is scored so I know the medicine is equal throughout the pill.
Second question, I dont know if this is a side effect of the medicine or not but I have recently broke out in a red, blotchy rash. It is not itchy at all and I wouldnt even know it is there if I didnt see it. It started out as one round circle about the size of a dime on my butt cheek and has spread to a much larger area on my butt and down the crack, the back of my thighs and the inner part of my thighs and then the outer part of my armpits. Not where I shave my armpit hair but just outside that area.
Now this morning it is on the front of my inner thigh area but that area is a bunch of smaller red circles about the size of a pencil eraser. Like I said, it doesnt itch at all. It is only very, very slightly raised if at all. There is no discharge or crusting or flaking or anything other than red. No one else in the family has it, including my husband who has been in direct skin to skin contact with it.
I will also add that I am under a lot of stress, I dont get much more than 5 – 6 hours of sleep a night, and I just got an inside kitten (but I think this started before the kitten arrived). I dont want to stop taking the Phentermine (if that is what you are thinking could be causing this) and it isnt bothering me at all so if it is the Phentermine can I keep taking it anyway?

AskDocWeb: Pills that are scored with a grove across the center are designed to be split in half when needed. An unexplained rash could be caused by Phentermine as that is listed as one of the possible side effect of this drug. Your doctor would need to evaluate the rash before deciding if changes need to be made to your treatment.

Heart faster than normal

First time take phen gave me a lot of energy yesterday but my heart is racing feels faster then normal is this okay?!
Samantha
AskDocWeb: Phentermine is known to increase the heart rate so some increase is to be expected. The question then becomes how much is too much? The American Heart Association has a good article that explains what should you know about your heart rate. If you are still concerned after reading the article then talk to your doctor.
Sexual function
Date: 5/9/2014
Had a question about not being able to get an erection after only 5 days of taking it? I stopped taking it today, will I return back to normal and how long will it take?
Rick
AskDocWeb: Phentermine has been reported to cause impotence in some men. However, the percentage of people who experienced impotence due to phentermine has not been reported. Many men who continue to take Phentermine experience a return to what is normal for them in two to three weeks. Those who discontinued Phentermine also took two to three weeks to recover sexual function. Read more feedback from users.
